I've found the 2.01 update good for the most part. Faster AF lock, better tracking, no power drain on mine, better stabilization. I have had some intermittent focus freezing issues on mine which requires a battery pull to correct. I hope we get one or two more minor bug fixes with this one.

Thanks for your impressions Stuart. I did do the V2.0 update and experienced no issues. I also updated to V2.01 and again am finding the overall performance that much better as you have indicated. The AF I have found is improved as well as the faster formatting etc, I have not noticed any significant decrease in battery life either. Those Swallows are challenging to capture and you have succeeded very well. I will be out trying that soon. Thanks again for a great video and look forward to the next ones.

Hi, how old is your camera if you don't mind me asking? And is it a UK model or an import? I want to update mine but I'm worried I'll get issues. Thanks

@@mrbassett4388 Hi, I live in Australia. I purchased my A1 in October 2021 from an authorised Sony retailer in Brisbane. I have had no issues with the V2.0 and V 2.01 updates. As stated above, the update improves the camera overall and the new touchscreen improvements are great. I have recently tested wifi, works fine as does Bluetooth and Creator’s App pairing. Definitely worth doing.

Thanks for the update Stuart. Nice images! I wish saving a Camset file worked with the new system. Would taking photos of my current settings be the best way to replicate settings after I update?

Hello Stuart! I hope you are keeping well. I am not sure if I will update. Seen people on forums with major issues where the update can brick the camera in respect to the mainboard. others have complained about fast battery drain and also the focussing is poor. Obviously you are the lucky one as are many others. I am just worried that if I get issues and it needs to be sent to Sony, the repair bill could be a lot since Sony will not over the cost unless it is in warranty, which mine isn't by 3 months. Sony have also said to a few people who got in touch with them, that if they do not need the new features, to avoid updating because they cannot say if it will fail. Mine is running fine on the 1.35 version (I think that's the one), but would love to get better focussing and the new menu layout as well as the focus breathing for video. Decisions, decisions :) Anyway, some epic images you got there mate, nice work. Speak soon.

id say the people who have had issues have cameras with a failing main board. and this just pushes it over the edge. but then again we always hear the worst over the good so. who knows. will pop down soon we need a catch up

      So now I’m totally confused…
Everyone was saying HOLD OFF because the latest Sony update for the A1s was breaking WiFi and Bluetooth - if not BRICKING the camera - and IF not in Warranty - Sony was charging $750 to “repair” the camera w/o acknowledging the firmware issue… that 5/4/3 months ago and the latest (2 months) is an AI recording that only says “be careful” but NOT that anything has been fixed and IF it doesn’t work… it’s the “user’s fault ie a legal CYA for potential class action law suits.
I’m still at 1.32 and everything is working… not hearing about anything in the later versions (or than not being able to use the latest version of the Crestor’s app) that is worth the risk!?!

    Another great video Stuart.
Off topic, as a beginner I am looking for the next camera. Is the a7r ii or iii something you'd recommend? I have a rx10iv just now and I'm keen to take a step up.

the a7r2 and r3 are very good cameras the improvements of the r3 over the r2 are af and eye af and its quicker also real world 8fps to 10fps for bursts the sensor is epic and with the r3 you get the newer bigger battery but it is still now old tech so not as quick as the newer cameras but image quality epic

Speaking of shoe heel bending over - this is why I got long handle shoe horns, 16.5"/42cm or 31.5"/80 cm. I prefer the rigid ones, the adjustable ones have too much flex for me. I usually look at the Amazon warehouse pricing "scratch and dent" first.
I wonder how much of the darks, Tom Tom, could be pulled up in post processing?

On 2.02 When viewing images in playback mode there is a icon overlay that is virtually telling you if you press the playback button again while you're in that mode you can go back to shooting. Um... It's a professional camera, why does one need an distracting icon to tell them that they can go back to shooting by pressing a playback button when one can just press the shutter button. Is there any way to get rid of that distracting icon? Sometimes it covers up one of my subjects eyes. And it really kills the vibe when showing clients photos you have taken.

Uh, that’s absolutely - no - help and implies that the other people are posting with problems are liars…
Do I need to find the fellow who bought a used A1 and get update BRICKED his $6K camera and he posted transcripts of Sony telling him that they won’t even look at it if he didn’t cough up $750 (a fourth of the cost of the camera!!!) is he lying???
Worse, implying that firmware upgrade is a “no brainer” is going to get other shooters in trouble.
Why not point out that the 1.32 upgrade to 2.00 depends what version Mac iOS you running as earlier iOSes need an upgraded driver to load Sony’s install program…
Or that you should completely reset your camera to factory settings because (as usual) Sony never tested the upgrade with options that have been set that may not work when you “blow away” the previous settings… which is standard practice to n other software upgrade scenarios.
My 2018 MacBook Pro (out of support) was BRICKED by going from Ventura to Sonoma and Apple’s - initial -response was “buy a new machine” - buy another A1 ? - that’s insane! Fortunately, because I install software for a living, I had a Support Ticket BEFORE I tried it and a Tech said “no problem” (and I recorded the call) and Apple reviewed the incident and got me a new 2017 and admitted that you “can not upgrade to Sonoma because it’s trying to access hardware not on the 2017 machine!
I’ll have to do the same here - but Sony being a Japanese company - is not obviously NOT as cautious as Apple with being named in a class action lawsuit.

I guess the “loads of people” negate the experience of these testimonials…
      ua-cam.com/video/ZYN5CY-biZI/v-deo.htmlsi=nL0mntzKdVHgbhxK
And Sony camera owners should ignore them and go ahead… it’ll only cost hundred$$$ if not thousand$$$ to “fix” an issue that Sony never tested in rolling out their firmware updates…
