Love watching these videos. Please keep them coming.
thanks, i'm pleased you like them and appreciate the encouragement ;-)
good to see your NEW video after some time , i see your back in business its looking great i hope you'll post many more progress vids
unfortunately the nicoprops channel doesn't yet pay the bills so I have to pay them with other means, like setting up a new restaurant, which means I don't get to spend as much time as i would like on projects or youtube videos :-( but I will try to keep making them when I can ;-)
Looking great
thanks
not sure why someone disliked it, it would be good when people do that to pop a comment in just to let creators know what they didn't like. Maybe we could change things in future videos.
what MIGHT come in handy are those 3ft long clamps, (which i've seen carpenters use to hold together table top frames whist glueing) either for these particular areas or some other. Although they (being metal) might be a bit heavy handed on a job like this, i don't know if they make any lighter weight plastic one's or not.
you mean sash clamps? ;-)
|Oh ED 2O9s head flopping, "I'm sure it's just a glitch...a temporary set back"
Did you find (as I have) that some portions of the scale model scale up enough proportionately? for example when scaled 8 times bigger (my estimation of measurement for a 7ft version) the "gun pod cannons" are STILL too small in diameter enough to notice. And so i'v just gestimated the extra size needed, it's the same for the "ammunition box that attaches to the gun pod 8 times larger than my 9 and a half"" tall horizon model IS NOT broad enough, so i need to make a wider one, damn it! it only came out the size of a house brick, the same for the Rocket launcher/war heads on the other arm.
well no is the answer because Shawn Thorrison showed in his videos that the scale was well off, so I used the same scale he did, seemed to make the most sense to me, i'm using metric measurements and he was using imperial so not sure now exact they would be in size to each other but it should be very close.
its very tough having to make something as complex as this on your own isnt it? I know the challenge, obviously in a film they work to deadlines BUT they work in organised teams of 6 to 8 or more. Shawn Thorsson had 3 or 4 helper's, he admitted & GHOSTLIGHT who did their tribute spoof the board room scene were a collaberation
Yeah Shawn has various people helping him, iI am doing this solo and its not my main job so I do it when I can
will you need to extend those rails length wise, in order to fit inside the sliding block so that their overlap (the seen part)is the correct length?
they only need to go inside the blocks a little way as it wont be seen.
Yes err...sash clamps (I,m not a carpenter you see, i wish i'd listened more in woodwork cless in school) as we both know without wooden/cardboard pattern templates, these precision machine characters can't be made, any way did you make another dome that cast sucesfully? or is that on the back burner for now? I've found that i can use corregated cardboard patterns to get the shape & symmetry that I need. especially for the toughest part of this build (in my opinion being the dome) my guess is, you have "Sash clamps, but choose not to use them. Cant remember if i've asked before, but what will be your underframe to hold all this together, (wooden uprights maybe with weighted wooden feet) and do you know yet how many individual portions it will require for assembly,/disassembling all told. it's a case of tongue & groove joints isnt it?
the frame is going to be a mix of wood and steel, hoping to get the best out of both materials
Can I ask if your sponcored *as I believe Shawn Thorsson was by MAKE magazine) , or having to self finance, And are you impressed by GASLIGHT's cardboard & Vac formed version they did for their ROBOCOP tribute spoof, I know I am , but then it ALWAYS helps to have a 3d graphic model like them to print patterns from
no its not sponsored completely self-financed and done in my spare time. I have seen the video of the cardboard ED-209 very funny
Can you tell us here what other film characterd youv'e worked on? I for one would be interested to know.
One of the RARER & less well known film robots (but very good) is- the "ABC Worrier that stands 8ft tall, from JUDGE DREDD is there an interest in making that some day? another rare Robot being MARIA the female automaton from the 1926 film METROPOLIS
I've not built any other major large projects prop wise, I am in the middle of setting up a resturant
How much for a life size ed209
probably best to discuss this on a PM, i tried to message you on here but i cant, if you pop me a PM on our facebook page we can discuss it
