I like how this is meant for speed, but it also teaches that all details don't need to be picked out to make a mini look good. Intrusive mini thoughts cause me to paint stuff only I would notice and when I go through to see what I'd apply to an army I'm confused why it took me so long when it wasn't even a character. Great video :)
Thank you for this video. Sometimes "obvious" things aren't so obvious, and seeing how you can quickly get an army painted for the table first was fantastic. Realizing I can go back and "finish" it later is certainly a great thing to keep in mind.
Loved the detailed analysis between painting steps-it really helped me understand the process better. The addition of a shopping list was a great touch! I think it would be awesome if you had a regular channel partner for the shoplist, making it available for every video. It feels much more relevant to the channel’s content than the usual marketing stuff. Keep up the great work!
Its crazy how you give us such simple methods to make amazing looking minis in little time. Thanks to you I have found my style of painting and am pushing myself in all areas while keeping my expectations realistic. Something about your vids has me re watching them as well, that grimdark vid thats like an hour long I have watched so much and it never gets boring for me.
I came up with a similar method to paint my Iron Warriors. I do allt he armor and trim at once as if it's solid silver, then I use thin coats of Skeleton Hroe on the trim to make a more bull, bronze-y gold that already has good shading and highlights baked in.
SUPER solid! I'm gonna use this as a template to teach a newbie how to paint stormcasts this weekend! I feel like getting something that looks good right away is such a good way to hook someone into the joy of painting. Another trovarion banger!
Another great video. I love how you add colour variation to your metallics like on the scale mail. Also, some great tips when using oil washes I've never seen anywhere else before!
I like how this applies beautifully to marines but also my adeptus mechanicus army. I will definitely take these things to help give my troops more variety to their shadows, and try my best shot at my tech priests.
@trovarion great video as always! One video i would love to see is how you approach creating a colour scheme. I see a lot of creators talking about how to execute a paint job but rarely talk about the methodology they used to come up a great colour scheme in the first place
I really like your reasonable approach to army painting, and I'm in a very relatable spot with a new Old World army! I am very thankful for investing in an airbrush to do my base coating while models are partially/wholly unassembled, so I can get color on my army to play games, and come back with a brush to add details as the army grows. Quick editing feedback: not sure you need the motion tracking in the talking head shots; I notice a bit of black frame creeping in due to the scale of the footage being too low/too small for the movement. I think it works when you do quick punch-ins to emphasize a word or phrase in a sentence, but an entire speaking segment creates a bit of tension, at least for me.
The one hour mark with the yellow added really gives it a graphic almost comic look. I dont mind the noise from the primer and oil, it reminds me of an old photocopy of a band poster colored with markers or a zine. Very punk.
For the gold I'd suggest you to swap your contrast yellow for snakebite leather contrast, you won't need adding another colour for a nice and quick gold
I made my thumbnail yesterday, took me 4 hours. Then I asked my discord for feedback and someone linked me his premiere. I died a little inside...haha.
@@trovarion 1. Thank you for making this video. I love your content and its always a positive motivation to keep painting. 2. No one owns "oil washes" and this kind of evergreen content is great for everyone. Bless.
Personally I think a bright metallic dry brush on the first model after the pin wash would have gone a long way on the rest and would probably be mandatory for me especially since its such an easy step to do for batch painting
I really do like this style of video and would be excited to see more. Maybe a skaveny one to compliment the stormcast. Also have you had any experience with the Villiainy inks?
People would definitely notice that burn sienna in the gold... because without it, it looked anything but gold. Imperial Fist yellow was IMO way, way too much, so you ended up correcting basically everything. You are a hundred times better painter than I am, so I was surprised that you didn't just go for a wash that was actually closer to the result.
I always shy away from using varnishes with my airbrush. I'm still getting used to it an cleaning is an issue. I can clearly spot color residue but I'm afraid I miss some varnish which will cause some clogging.
Another great video. How long approximately in terms of painting time did the "this is okay" stage take, to about 5:55 in the video, and how many additional hours to get to the final result?
In a batchpainting setting you can get this down to 10 minutes. The final result took about 90 minutes, the glazing of shadows and highlights on the golds and the final highlights on the metal after the wash took the longest.
Whilst I can appreciate the speed and ease of this technique I can't help but think about the result that Marco Frisoni got with his technique in 1hr of painting. I'd like to see you try his paint technique and see how you go on video. edit: I spoke too soon. Wrote a comment before you added that colour variation. That is nice. My comment still stands. Let's see you paint in his style. See if it's as quick and easy as he makes it look. edit 2: added the link to the video im talking about. ua-cam.com/video/K_jLQE-yO3k/v-deo.htmlsi=2FIo1WRtN77xO8Ap
Just paint. I’d rather play against a very basic, beginner level paint job than grey plastic or primed paint job any day. For me, painted army vs painted army, plus good terrain is crucial for a fully immersive experience….

I like the Trovarion way. "You can stop here if you wish, but I ACTUALLY CANNOT."
It is what it is...
favorite mini painter and teacher on youtube. Gives me confidence in my projects!

"You could also use leadbelcher if you don't have access to anything else" lol shots fired
Great step by step planning in this vid. Just stop when you're happy with the result! Thanks for sharing your thougths and ideas!
This is a great technique for layered quick painting that yields a great result! good job!
Amazing video! Very easy to follow and actual steps that you can do yourself.
Amazing how much the armor comes alive with the addition of the blue!
Nice to see how much the "tabletop ready" paintjob can be evolved later

Woow stunning for a Tabletop standard army ❤ great showcase of how to make a mini look good using speed

I love the colour forge cans
Damn this guy looks epic! Never considered putting blue on a silver color to make it look a bit cooler... thank you for the tips!

I like this idea of getting the model to different stages that you can build from. Grat work.
Love your painting … gonna try and replicate a bunch of this with my stormcast spearhead

Once again, very interesting and informative. It's always a joy watching you paint. Thanks for sharing your insights and recipes.
Maybe consider swapping the yellow contrast for Aggaros Dunes Contrast for a warm but dirty gold epic video as always 🤘
Cutting down the make-up sponges for more precision is a interesting idea!
Awesome video thank you!!! Painting these guys right now.
the progression was a real pleasure to watch and learn. very well done!!

super informative and fun as always!
Well done.
Very inspiring content once again! Awesome channel
Nice video idea. I wonder if i would go back to my models, but the steps are great to think about

On of the best on youtube. Thank you!

Awesome !
love this!!
Always love your videos ❤

I thought about making a corresponding skaven one, but i am scared after this one haha

Just awesome
Yeah... as good as it looks at the 1 hour mark there's no way I can convince myself to stop there. Good thing I enjoy painting 😅
you could apply the oil in a manner that doesnt need clean up afterwards...slower but saves a step?
Of course you can. Will probably just take as long, but up to you.

I was today years old when I discovered that Austrian pirates purr like kitties :o so cute.

@@trovarion Thank you!
Need another necron vid.
Do you have to prime first if all you want to do is the oil wash step?
You must always prime, the prime paint is a special paint that helps your actual paint stick to the miniature.
Oil wash won't stick to bare plastic properly.
Whilst I can appreciate the speed and ease of this technique I can't help but think about the result that Marco Frisoni got with his technique in 1hr of painting.

❤️🤘🔥
Brazilian color scheme haha

Always enjoy your videos. But dude......that camera shake makes me feel like i am drunk. Not neccessary :D

Why is the camera slightly shaky during the "talking head" sections? It's kind of distracting.
