Excellent demonstration - thank you! I had never even heard of a Colonial Knot until today. I must admit, visually they both look virtually identical to me, but it is always good to expand ones embroidery knowledge.
I use French knots more often, but this is out of habit. I know that it is much easier and more comfortable for many to use the colonial knot. In the description of this video, I added information about both of these knots, if you are interested, you can read. Thank you for your question 💚
I'm still practicing my French knots and today I finished some of them in colonial knots without knowing that was a thing!
