Kinda the same as I jumped in with the re-runs in the 70's and the animated show. After TOS, DS9 is probably my favourite but if SNW can keep going like it has, it'll be right up there with them. It manages to capture what made the original special.
I agree as well. I remember watching the original series when the episodes were brand new. I did like TNG but I like this one more....so far. It depends on where they go with it so I am reserving final judgement. Discovery was a monumental disaster so I have little confidence in many of the showrunners.
I must admit, "The Visitor" from DS9 is still my favorite Star Trek episode. There have been some wonderful episodes that match The Visitor, but it's still my favorite.
Avery Brooks is perhaps the most under-rated Star Trek Actor. My favorite was When Sisko plays a reporter at a Newsapaper and goes crazy and keeps saying, It was real, it was real! You can feel his anguish in that scene. What's the name of the episode, Folks? Jake laughs when says, Black People on the Moon. Great Sci-fi here!
@@SeanMorgan280 That episode is "Far Beyond the Stars." Actually, if you look closely in the Strange New Worlds episode "The Elysian Kingdom," the author of the book M'Benga is reading to his daughter is Benny Russell, which is Sisko's name in that episode.
That is a great episode! My favorite will always be “The Inner Light” from NG. When I hear that flute play that song… 🥹. It’s those heartfelt episodes that are always the best. 🫤 Now I’ll have to go watch The Visitor again. 🖖🏻
Towards the end of the “Inner Light” episode when number 1 gives Jean luc the instrument that he played and Jean luc gripes it with love always gets me🥲
When watching any episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds I am constantly reminded how good this show is; and that’s notwithstanding comparing it to Star Trek: Discovery. Indeed the disparity between the two series is so stark it’s as though one is set in a parallel universe to the other.👾
I really love this cast, their characters, and the show. 'Strange New Worlds' to me is like 'Fringe' in space. Really fun to watch, adds depth to characters and backstories, and is very fun and enjoyable to watch. Sometimes goofy, sometimes serious, but always in a perfect blend and the cast play very well of eachother. Can't wait for season 3 to air!
There are times that Ethan Peck looks so much like his grandfather! (he has certainly inherited his talent). He has effortlessly become the modern embodiment of Spock, and there is little doubt that Spock was the character they HAD to get right more than any other. Star Trek VI was a murder mystery. Just saying.
I agree with your recommendation. There's one or two that are not super great stories (those are OK), but most are very good stories and the visuals and music are as good or better than professional Trek. Some are the best stories of the TOS era ever done. I'd recommend starting with "Lolani" ep 2. Then backfill with ep 1 which was a good effort but still just a fan film. Remember that most of the cast are not professional TV actors, and most of the supporting cast are volunteers, so there is a community theater vibe at times....however that makes it more realistic to me....vs the overacted melodrama.
Strange New Worlds is a ton of fun, and their good casting and confidence has led to the ability to stretch genre...But...I do want them to bring it back to more "standard" Trek as in season 1. Experiment a bit, but the crew is too good to just keep experimenting.
As well l want to see the return of the Talosians and the character Vina ( Melissa George ) these people have to start making their appearance now. We cannot forget this is supposed to be the journey of Christopher Pike facing his destiny in that engineering room and saving the lives of those cadets. As well handing captain's chair to James Kirk.
Having permanently dumped too many products to mention in recent years, including entertainment products and their purveyors who chose social myopia over customers and income streams and profits, I am a huge fan of "Strange New Worlds." I am very much looking forward to still more fun and true entertainment in its third season. I hope that the brilliant example it sets inspires other fans to believe that more such entertainment may be on that long-neglected horizon. Fun and entertainment is so worth keeping.
When Rebecca Romijn gets to actually 1st Officer the ship, Ethan Peck plays Spock serious without being the butt if the jokes by the teen Buffy squad of junior officers, and Mount gets to ACTUALLY PLAY Captain Pike, the man IN CHARGE.... Those are really good Star Trek TV episodes. For me the silly Buffy the VS style stuff is a turn off...but they dont ask me. I found 7 episodes in S1 very satisfying. 6 in S2. There were 2 I just hit stop on for S2 after 4 minutes. There were 2, I watched but absolutely hated in S1. That's just me though. There are audiences that think they are the greatest stuff. Mass entertainment is for the masses. Every series had their dumb episodes and shark jumps.
Since we know how this story line ends, and given the comment that they’ll continue the series as long as Paramount lets them, maybe the only real consideration is integrity with star dates?
They have to be very careful with legacy characters from the original series because their involvement it will be too much. The characters l really want to see is Dr Phillip Boyce, Lt Jose Ortegas Tyler, Yeoman Colt and Transporter Chief Pictarin as well.
How about actual episodes where the crew really DO visit "Strange New Worlds"??? Even with only 10 episodes per season, dropping every 2 years, most of the stories take place onboard the Enterprise!:(
Akiva Goldman is such a hack. He honestly believes that JJ Abrams‘ betrayal of Captain Kirk is wh Captain Kirk actually was if you’ve ever watched TOS you know how far from reality that character was.
What snarky parody comments are in Ad Astra Per Aspera, Among the Lotus Eaters, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Hegemony, or Under the Cloak of War? Hmm? Where are they? What about Lost in Translation? Simply saying something doesn’t make it so.
If Anson keeps going with his hysterical political diatribes, the show might never get to air. Shut up man and just act... what is it with actors and thinking people give a shit about their political views? Love this show but shit like that makes it a hard pill to swallow.
Singing is not a normal or reasonable "genre" for Star Trek. Any such comportment on a vessel required to be able to function in military environments is completely ridiculous. If indeed something like that were to actually occur, then they would all be dead. Period. No more singing! Please! Just because an actor is capable of doing X or Y, does not mean that such flights of fancy are appropriate on a set where the methodology is Z.
I am a huge Trek fan although most recent incarnations like Discovery have been pretty bad so I was excited about this show, it started off well, one episode the Gorn was outstanding as were a couple others, but I have never seen a TV show in my life be so up and down, you will have a great episode followed by a meh episode followed by a absolutely terrible cringe episode then back to a decent one. They need to find some consistency and stay away from cringy stuff, like the musical episode for example I had to turn it off it was so horrible, fire the person that had that idea and frankly the clips from season 3 opening episode look kind of cringe.
They keep talking about stretching boundaries and bring nervous energy as they talk about it. I really think they are going to piss off a lot of fans. New and old fans. They obviously are going to do a lot of offensive stuff. Why don’t they stick to their word and “Just Do Star Trek!”
I hope the cast and crew continue to have as much fun making these as I do watching them.
I was a Trek fan when there was one show and no movies. This is by far my favorite incarnation since the original.

Me too. My question is, What went wrong with William Shatner?
@@catchaser52 It was the mid-60's. The show wasn't wildly popular then.

Ethan Peck is KILLING it as Spock. And the gorn are REALLY dangerous-the way they should be. Looking forward to season 3👍
Love this show and cast. Being in the Star Trek Universe, anything is possible which is awesome for creative writing.

I'll watch just about anything with Rebecca Romijn. She makes such interesting choices.
Best DS9 ep and maybe the best Star Trek ep ever: In the Pale Moonlight.
