  • Currently in PGY-2 Internal Medicine residency, rotating in the ICU. This is the best place to demonstrate if this handheld ultrasound is worth it or not. This is a rotation where time is of the essence (either it works and gets used or doesn't and gets put in a drawer).

great videos- thanks for sharing! I actually just ordered a GE Vscan Air SL this week….. as an Anesthesiologist in Boston I plan to use (and teach) doing vascular access, nerve blocks, TTE and gastric and lung exams… seems like incredibly useful (at least was on the trial I did, and seems super useful as you mentioned…. ) Just having the ability to do at any time likely to increase better care and more efficient diagnosis… please post others if you can on additional scenarios where you’ve found it helpful..

Of course! I use it daily, and get answers daily without waiting in the post CVC CXR, Pulse check during a code, shock differentiation, etc.. Here’s a vid on cardiac examination: ua-cam.com/video/GqxvEpm15Hs/v-deo.htmlsi=xB0Gucxn8TNRHRc8

Nice video. I am considering this device. Is this SL version better than CL? I would like to use it mainly in general medicine, for differential diagnosis, POCUS - lung, abdomen, maybe to learn basics of echocardiography…

Sounds good. Which modes are availble M, CW, PW, Color, TDI, and a calculation menu?
How much does the cost for buying and is there subscription fee?

@@sskfrey no CW on no handheld cordless US device to date. Tech isn’t there yet. Only “handheld” with CW is Kosmos (which costs at least double the Vscan Air Sl and it is because it is attached to an iPad via Accord, the iPad provides the power for CW). Same thing for TDI AS I mentioned before (I think TDI probably can happen sooner than CW for cordless handheld US). M mode, PW, color mode is available. Calculation menu is extremely basic currently for all models except Kosmos (you can measure distance, time, maximum velocity). We are still pending software updates but GE is making good work, probably soon enough. Auto EF for example is a great new addition.
There is option of subscription and no subscription: www.gehealthcare.com/shop/equipment/vscan-air-sl

Thanks for the review! I am really hoping to get my hands on this. How have you found the process of sharing images, and does it support transfers to platforms like qpath? Also, how do you like the doppler on this for obtaining VTI?

You are welcome! More vids to come. Sharing images/ clips--> as easy as sharing a pic from your camera roll. Basically just air drop/ message it/ email it/ etc. Not familiar with qpath, tell me more and I can try it out and get back to you. Doppler for VTI is great--> of course the limitation is there's no CW, but there is PW (as of all handhelds, all limited without CW doppler with exception of Kosmos which costs almost triple and has cable + their ipad thing.. which I don't find efficient). The doppler is great, just like cart based to be honest (not as good but often times difference not even noted)
