I just discovered your channel. Very cool and thank you for the great videos! I too have a swapped out BMW E46. Mine was a 2002 330 CI and it was completely swapped with a 2006 M3 which only had less than 35000 KM. One small problem I have is with a weird OBD 2 code that is detected as a "50 switch chain frictional connection" which from any info I could dig up on the net (as well from a pro M shop) is some kind of switch connection from the clutch pedal to the manual transmission (apparently located under the drivers side dash) which is not connected or has been removed. In theory it has been the cause of a very small but continually annoying idle problem which only shows up when the car is hot. Usually when I put the car into reverse and on occasion it will stall. I haven't been able to fix this and neither has the pro M shop I brought it to after I couldn't figure out what was causing the prob. But it may be something to do with this connection that was left out of the swap. The DME may be searching for the gear info when the car is detecting the change in gear or at least that's the theory. I know you may not experience this but as i was watching you ready to cut the SMG wires I thought I might throw the info your way. Unfortunately I don't have the cure yet but maybe you will find it or not have any probs at all. As well look into Besian Vanos online if you haven't already. They have the cures for ALL the Vanos production failures. (Broken tabs on the intake side, seal replacements etc). There are 6 bolts in the Vanos exhaust side (right) that ALWAYS fail on the S54. I replaced mine at 74,000KM as I had a weird knocking sound from the front where the vanos is and the bolts were cut in half and all loose. You can check this all out on youtube just search it and you'll find it. Well sorry for the really long message but I love the E46 M3 and I really am enjoying your hard work LOL. All the best.
+Greg Wayne Thanks for the info , I may have this problem when I swap my car since I will be using my 5speed non m transmission, which doesn't have any wiring for the gear info. If I do have this problem , I'll keep you guys updated in the videos , and I'll see if I can figure it out. Other than that everything is going well , just waiting on more parts to come in.
Cool. Looking forward to more as you go. I'm thinking you may have a quicker off the line car with the diff change you did as well as the gears on the 5 speed. But it may all work out similar too depending on your gear ratios. (I'd have to look them up). Interesting stuff, kind of exciting to an E46 M fan LOL.
Hey mate, was what you did to the loom to remove the SMG successful or did you do anything wrong.. I’m about to do the same thing but want to know if you hit any snags!?
@@mbowers5702 hey mate, I’ve since done the SMG wiring removal, very straightforward, literally trace all the wires back from the SMG ECU into the main loom and remove 1 by 1.. some share earths and feeds but can be removed and isolated easily! Mine run and works perfectly!
You're very educational ,I have a 199 328 i 5 speed I would like to change it to a 6 speed manuel , wll I need anything in particular for the comveetion.
Bro you’re a legend for simply stating grey wires are for smg ECU I had wired my car all wrong

Second this!
Im also about to cut!! Stress!
Me too. Did you cut all the SMG wires correctly? Any issues? Anything you did wrong?

@@incyspider83 Thanks for the reply. Did you follow the video and just start cutting or were you more precise?
