How I agree with all you wrote... it´s been giving me chills since what - 1979 ? I think that was when I first heard it.. He was given so much space... and he delivered so marvelously.. Love it, love it, love it :)
+Thomas Blomster Drumbo was indeed a master. Check out his drumming on Sheriff Of Hong kong. One of his finest moments and one of the best Beefheart songs to boot.
My second cousin on my mother's side. He has my Grandpa Harold Vliet's eyes. I've always loved this tune. He took me and my Aunt Jan to the Whiskey back in '65 when I was four years old.
I saw him in concert in 1971 or 72. he was incredible. I've loved his music since strictly personal and safe as milk. The spotlight kid is one of my favorite albums.
This is the best representation of Elliot Ingber that I know of. Elliot piloted the first "stunt guitar" position (later filled by Steve Vai, among others) in Frank Zappa's first ensemble, the 'Freak Out' era Mothers . This is a great showcase for a mysterious and influential guitar player.
Elliot Ingber gets a much deserved showcase here. A great, mostly unknown (outside of Beefheart/Zappa realm) guitarist. The Captain gives Winged Eel Fingerling his shining moment! Plus, he had a beard to die for before Billy Gibbons was shaving!
Lucky enough to have grown up with older brothers who appreciated Beefheart and Zappa. Also got into The Doors and Love, Airplane and so much more. Real music by musicians
Love! What an under-remembered artist Arthur Lee was! And The Doors started it all for me at 12, in 1967. I saw them live in 1968, great, and in those days the PA systems weren't powerful enough to make it too loud in the room, so you could hear everything well.
My friends and i used to 'spraltz' to beefheart (and Zappa - made him laugh at Maples pavilion concert 'those people up front!' he said laughing...!) this song is very 'spraltzable'... spraltz is a dance like spasm and waltz... crazy hippies! top knot optional!
This guitar fairly zings. Underrated album, fact my fave, though I recognise "Trout Mask Replica' is his piece de... Much missed Don. V.V..... Just caught the Spring 2018 bollox about Beyonce's latest effusion and this a blast of sanity.
just goes to show that you don't need a buttload of technique to lay down one of the greatest solo tracks ever captured in the studio. technique is important, but it's no substitute for inspired creativity. al dimeola eat your (beef)heart out.
"Alice In BlunderLand" Sent my girlfriend over the Edge. She had A Diarheaa "shit Attack" and ran to the toilet. I liked it.I like the Funny Zappa ending She liked it eventually.
I saw the band perform this live. Elliot Inger seemed to be out of synch with the rest of the band, but no one else seemed to notice. I was not impressed, but he got a big round of applause from the rest of the audience anyway. Then again, Don was often out of synch, even on the records, so perhaps it was too much to ask.
@@tomasvanecek8626 Yeah, to Zappa devotees, if you don't like Frank then you have something wrong with you, most likely too inferior an intellect to grasp it's genius.
R.I.P. Elliot Ingber
Absolutely beautiful guitar work by Elliot Ingber. Very generous of Don to give him such a showcase. Elliot's playing on this gives me chills.
agreed. the triumph of musicality over technique. winged eel fingerling.

One of the greatest guitar solos of all time
This album was and is SEVBERLY underappreciated in its day and since.
The addition of ex-Mothers Art Tripp III playing marimba was a unique and incredibly original way to present an added dimension to Beefheart's music.
This songs blasts me off to outer space like marquee moon!
It's the drumming that often gets my attention. No other rock drummers play like Beefheart's drummers. Period!
+Thomas Blomster Drumbo was indeed a master. Check out his drumming on Sheriff Of Hong kong. One of his finest moments and one of the best Beefheart songs to boot.
I'm all too familiar with the Sheriff! :)
Lick my decals off baby is some superb drumming.many years ago 75 I played in a beefheart jam band called kerneldak.we jammed on beefy grooves.
Love the groove changes throughout of his songs
That's absolutly right.

+Kari Williams Are you seriously telling us that Captain Beefheart was your cousin ?
And I thought the only 4 year-olds allowed in the Whiskey were some of the acts they put on stage (some, not all).

That intro is one of the most beautiful pieces of music. It's up there with the outro to Veterans Day Poppy

See also Jeff Beck (for stunt guitar).

It's kinda lead-guitarish of the era. Lol.. It's one of my favorite solos
Tom Verlaine (Television) may well have copped this solo's tone and vibe for his own signature sound.
@@polcommwatcher always thought Verlaine was influenced most by Neil Young but that's a great point.
Best guitar solo ever

That guitar solo is so sweet. Don't knock this album
hell ya cool to see ya on here!
Although Trout Mask Replica is my favorite album from the Captain, this is my favorite song from the Captain.
That's right, the Mascara Snake.
Fast and bulbous
And tight!
Pure brilliance !!!
This band masters the art of syncopation!
I wonder if Foals listened to this stuff
thanks for sharing...
this is wonderful. I just love these guys and the crazed rooti-toot-rooti-toot the they be cooking upPickin' it up and layin' it down
Geweldige solo, lijkt op Zappa!! DC BOOGIE
Great music and great musicians .

There is an alternate take somewhere.. check it out too.. but this was worth the album.
The one song on the album that sounds like Zappa.
Yes but in a good way
EPIC

Liverpool vs Man City anyone😂😂😂
Sounds like Zappa, which isn't a goodthing as Zappa was utter wank imho, but this isn't bad...
Don on Frank: "Zappa is a freak. " And I agree, utter wank. But tell this to his worshipers... 🤣 they´d just explode

Probable counter-cynical intent. Although the soloist was not aware of it.
