For a 20 second cartoon, you've perfectly and realistically captured that reaction everyone has when one of those cars drives by. No anger or cursing. Just a quick silence, flinch and return to norm. I love it.

I think that sounds from what's called a turbocharger. The dang thing is popular because it gives these noise machines some extra power, and that "pop whoosh" sound
That's the sound of the car's ALS firing. Fun fact: that is actually intentional. When you throw in an aftermarket turbocharger to beef up your car, that component is driven by exhaust gasses from the engine and needs you to keep on the throttle to provide it with power. When you lay off the throttle and hit the brakes, the turbocharger slows down because you aren't providing power to it. This causes a problem because the turbocharger will need a moment to spin back up when you hit the throttle again and induction will lag behind until it does. Although this state of reduced induction brief, every second in a race counts and racers will need to counter that disadvantage. To get around this, you install an anti lag system (ALS) to intentionally flood the turbocharger with an air/fuel mix and ignite it when you aren't pushing the throttle. This keeps the turbo spun up, but the side effect is that it's loud as all hell. It also causes that burst of fire to blow out through the exhaust of your car.
This looks amazing! Looks really beautiful! It Kinda reminds of the Grickle comics or Puzzle Agent. And that South Park episode about loud annoying biker gangs riding Harleys.
