    At first I thought it was a preposterous move. Now, I think it's absolutely brilliant. UNC has always been a basketball school, but now if you're a 5 star recruit you could go play for the best NFL coach of all time. "I'll prepare you for the NFL - you won't be a draft bust if you play for me" is all he needs to say, because it'll be the truth. This will be a direct-to-NFL pathway program and if I were still a player (with anywhere near the talent required), I'd be begging for an interview at UNC now. Alabama? LSU? Michigan? Ohio State? Get those pedestrian programs out of my face, I want to learn NFL football

    Why are we acting like coaching in college is a downgrade. Especially in these new days with NIL. They’re completely different sports. And I feel like in this day and age, being a college head coach is harder than being a pro head coach.

    • @DogSlobberGardens-i7f
      @DogSlobberGardens-i7f 6 годин тому

      Because the average salary for an NFL head coach is about three times the average for college HC's.
      I'm sure Bill will get more than the average, of course.

    • @codyb.3015
      @codyb.3015 5 годин тому

      Why are college coaches paid significantly less on average?
      If coaching the NFL was easier, then they may as well coach in the pros instead.
      The big difference is just the lack of parity in college football. A lot of teams are just literally not capable of ever being as good as the bigger brands, so expectations are lower.
      Most college coaches aren't expected to take their team to a national championship, so the leeway is greater than it is for an NFL coach (Expected to have deep playoff run in 2-3 yrs)

    • @DogSlobberGardens-i7f
      @DogSlobberGardens-i7f 4 години тому

      @@codyb.3015 It's not really about all the Podunk State U coaches who will never see a bowl game unless they buy tickets. Even at the highest levels of college ball, where there is some parity and the coaches are indeed expected to win championships, the top 8 salaries are under or just barely over 10 mil/year. Including Bill's reported 10 mil/year contract for three years with NC.
      He was making 20 million/year at his last NFL gig.
      Cutting his salary in half to have less power and more/different hassles than he did at his last job, is not a step up for him.

      Every coach who was ever hired at a D1 or NFL job was a “winner” before they got there. That’s why they got the job.
      And most of those guys failed to remain a “winner” and got fired within a few years. Look at all the former Pats assistants who went on to win precisely nothing.
      Contrary to popular belief, being a “winner” is not a specific skill.
      If he’s good at raising money for NIL and recruiting, UNC will win. If not, they will not. It remains to be seen if he’s good at either of those.

    What I find so odd about this is that Bill is in sniffing distance of the all time NFL coaching wins record. We all assumed he would have kept his job in New England until he got the record and that probably would have happened if the team had stayed competitive. By taking this job he's abandoning a shot at the record. Now he's got his son involved in this job and I can see ensuring a successful career for his son to be a higher priority. Selfishly I'm disappointed because I wanted to see Belichick back in the NFL. And it seemed like things were set for that as there are coaching vacancies and there's expected to be more and for each coach getting fired the discussion became "why didn't any of these teams consider hiring Bill Belichick?" I guess the general disinterest in Belichick last year is still the case this year?

      @@Shiny101 why are you acting like Deion Sanders is in the same league of coaching ability as Bill Belichick? Not even saying that Sanders is a bad coach, just saying that the situations are completely different and this comparison is brain dead. 😂

    I think Saban was disenchanted w/ the modern state of college ball being basically optimized as a feeder league full of mercenaries for the NFL as its primary objective
    Meanwhile BB sees where this is going and has put together a winning organization in a league of cynical players who want to make their money. Seems like a good fit. Saban is from the pre-NIL days, and BB is built for the new state of affairs.

    I just hope Bill brings out more personality and pizazz at the microphone stand, than he did in the NFL. Because he’s a funny guy, and he can take the piss out of anyone in a funny way. He just didn’t do it. Well, that’s kind of a part of college ball and all its pageantry. So hopefully he opens up a bit and does what Saban did, and would take shots directly at the media.

    Someone explain to me how belichick with the resources he’ll have isn’t gonna do great? Mack won 6, 9, 8, 6 last 4 years as a recruiter not a developer or x’s o’s, without $ or support above. What’s bill gonna do? Think heels defense gonna look the same, tackle the same? Oline, dline same? Culture the same? I don’t think yall get how big a change just happened.

    God, I hope Quinn Ewers takes that bait with the UNC portal. I'm done with him ALWAYS coming up small in big games. Ok, he beat Bama in Bama. But that was before we had really learned that ain't BAMA. At best Ewers was like the nail in the Sabin Dynasty coffin.
    Being a Cowboys & Longhorns fan it's torture dealing with Ewers & Dak. So at least can I get some Arch Manning?

    I'm looking forward to his staff choices now that this is a done deal. If Bill goes into this with a bunch of old white dudes who are GM types, this could really backfire. But if he gets a few of his old players - or ones he really respects that didn't play for him - to help with coaching and recruiting, watch out. Like keeping or getting UNC legend Julius Peppers involved somehow. Bill's network is vast.
    What if Bill gets Gronk out of his CBS gig to help with his recruiting staff? I mean, those are the moves to watch for because few kids are saying no to Bill AND Gronk. That's what Bill needs to nail down more than people worrying about his coaching stuff.
    So, we'll all know more here in a month or so I would imagine.
