I think he died from old age
Proof: He didn't have any children when he killed Madara then he saw his granddaughter before his death that shows a long time gap and he lived to his old age.
Thing that show this is wrong: Then why Tobirama looked midle aged before his death? Hashirama probably died before Tobirama's death and they only had 2 or 3 year age difference. Maybe Senju clan members look younger than their age like Tsunade.
I think Naruto's time line is so messed up.

No, you're wrong because Tsunade uses a jutsu to maintain her youth. You can also refer to Naruto: Season 3, Episode 12, where Jiraiya tells Naruto that Tsunade uses a jutsu to stay young.

Naruto's timeline is really a big problem . Biggest problem of this is there is not information about in what age x character did x thing . Like in what age Hashirama create Konoha , in what age did Madara and Hashirama fight , or when he died . İn what age did Hiruzen become hokage , how long was his hokage job . And many other questions about characters from previous generations like these questions .

@Sunny Hill I am not talking about the alliance or the other Kage. But things were different when Hokage came. Hashirama wrapped him up before Zetsu revived him through Obito. It was after his stolen powerups from Hashirama that he could overpower Hashirama and got Tobirama easily.
