This is the kind of space Whitacre writes his music for. I've sung in spaces like this - there is no description. You float. The director has quite a job here - watch her. Even though everyone ends their phrases precisely together even a consonant reverbs for SECONDS. As a singer you hear that reverb while you form the next pitch. You have to be well practiced and rehearsed but part of it is just getting "in the zone", letting your intuition/instinct/body knowledge take over to pull it off. The feeling of "oneness" with the rest of the voices is another thing words won't work for.
When I was in high school our band played a piece by Vincent Persechetti who had a knack of writing music to make amateur wind ensembles sound amazing. Eric Whitacre has now performed the same magic for amateur choirs. These kids sound like a professional group.
I was deeply impressed and moved by your elegance, “feel” and stability. You made the space YOUR OWN. Stay strong, believe, collectively and (as life goes on) individually.
I’ve listened to every performance of this song You Tube has. How cool is it, that a group of high school kids offer the quintessential example of how this song should be sang? The only video that comes close, is the Westminster chorus, and the camera man’s fumbling with the camera, totally ruins it for the Westminster chaps. The manner in which the instructor employs the high schoolers voices, in conjunction with the acoustics, is phenomenal. Just wow!
@@mlcnotes The acoustics are incredible. Hearing those chords reverberating through the halls is hauntingly beautiful. Were there people just working that could hear this? That would be crazy to take a second and just listen...
I agree, I’ve had it on repeat for two days. Their harmonies are so good. Obviously, their conductor is very talented, getting this from these youngsters...they created a very special moment...so happy someone documented it!
So surreal! Love the venue. It really makes Eric’s music reverberate. Amazing breath control! This song is not easy to sing. Great job everyone! Bravo. 🙌
An amazing choir, I would not contribute the excellence of this recording to the building or the space. They are simply singing extremely well! What an amazing choir, what an amazing conductor!
This takes me back learning about this song in my trips with you Ms Cunnington. Your choirs has and always will be the best. Keep it up! BTW, it’s Mykaila ^^

Upstairs, a guy walks by and doesn't even stop to listen to the magic.
Amazing !!!!
Hold my beer, I’m joining the circle
What an incredible, moving rendition of this composition. Truly, it has been lifted to an even higher spiritual plane.
Wow, that's an amazing and kind compliment. Thank you
