This is How You Create A Quick and Easy Compost Bin That Works!

Here is a quick and easy method to build a compost bin! In this video we use recycled fencing that can also be found at any hardware store. We show you how to build a structural wall using simple metal stakes, or bamboo to hold it in place. The idea of this method is to keep the pile spreading out and creating a wall that insulates the inside of the pile where microbial action takes place breaking down the plant materials needed to make a nutrient rich compost.
We should look at our compost pile as a living thing, treat it as you would your plants or other living things. There are billions of microorganisms that come into play when composting occurs, making sure the moisture levels are always adequate and not drying out will speed up your process. Also keeping a ratio of Nitrogen to Carbon 1:30 is a safe bet. Example (1lb of green grass clippings to 30lb of brown leaves). When we think of nitrogen, look at living things like your food scraps, live plant leaves etc. Carbon can be looked at as dead things, such as brown leaves, stick, dried out grass clippings etc.
The more broken down your materials are the faster they will compost. Using a chipper or lawn mower with a bagging system to chop up your leaves or plant materials will help increase your surface area thus allowing faster break down.

I like to use twist ties from the grocery store to attach fencing to poles. I always have a lot of them and they hold up surprisingly well 🙂
