Totally agree! That’s my first board few months ago. I sold it after 4 days. However this Carve540 helped me to decide whether i should invest more on this hobby. I end up replaced it with carver C7 and a yow S5 because of your previous videos.
I'm glad you Americans are finally starting to get Decathlon stores. There ain't many shops where you can walk in with the intention of buying a new water bottle and walk out with a surfskate, horse saddle and longbow.
I've had the Oxelo 540 for about a month. First entry into surfskate, after 10+ years of not even setting foot on a board (I used to do some downhill in my youth). I bought this one because of the cheaper price and availability. It didn't break the bank to get started. Decathlon also sells protective gear for very low prices. At first, I was struggling with the pumping and carving, mostly because of my lack of technique. After spending a month riding almost every day and watching Shane Lai's videos, I am enjoying the heck out of this board. I agree with you on the lack of concave and the small kicktail. Those are definitely its most notable downsides. Regarding the limited motion, I have to say, since I have never compared it to another system, I don't miss it. Remember that you get used to the set up that you start with. I watch a lot of UA-cam videos on surfskating, including your channel. I get a lot of FOMO when I watch other people rip on their Smoothstars and YOWs. Only a week ago, I almost pulled the trigger on the Meraki system and a Swiss deck, which would have run me 3 times the cost of the Oxelo. Now, I'm glad I didn't. The fact of the matter is that this set up is giving me so much enjoyment, despite its drawbacks, that I am not sure I will actually be that much happier if I spend 3x on another set up. I am working on improving my technique, which will help me get the most out of what I have. This is a great budget board. I recommend it for people who can't justify spending $200+ to have some fun or to work out. Nobody is fooling themselves that this board is the same as a Carver or YOW.
Agreed - I have the standard 540 as well as another board setup with yow truck base - I enjoy both I certainly have not found the limits of the 540 yet.
It’s actually a fun board to ride barefoot and over a decent distance like a cruiser. Fun after a surf in the car park. Yeah it’s not as good as most other surfskates but for the price it’s actually a good starter and fun without high expectations.
Like many people who haven't enough moolah to spend on boards, given many other things life has thrown at us, i decided that the 540 Bird gave the best value for money proposition to enter into Surf skating for my daughter and I. I bought one for her first, then tried to save $$ for myself by getting a Sector 9 longboard with the waterborne adaptors, nope didn't work for me as well as my daughter's 540 Bird. Then I tried a Duster drop-through with the same WB adaptors, nope, didn't work as well for me either. So I sold them all, got my money back. I tried to save to achieve the same feel as the the 540 Bird as a surf skater newbie. I couldn't. The 540 Bird, despite its limitations, was really comfortable and confidence-inspiring for me to learn and get good on. I'm 1.8m weighing 85kg, and it fit my physique well. I tried the Carver Courtney Sea Tiger w C7 trucks, it was so lovely but the price difference used was still more than double that of the 540 Bird. I didn't have the confidence to invest so much $$ at my skill level and in something that I wasn't sure if I'll stick on with as a sport. I settled for the 540 Bird and and am really enjoying it still after 9 months. I occasionally do about 8km of simple carving with no foot down throughout. Lovely! Mark the Landlocked Surfer was an inspiration who helped seal the deal for my purchase of a second 540 Bird for myself. I'm no expert, started skating/surf skating from zero only in August 2020 and with that low entry purchase was great especially after the previous unsuccessful unfulfilled try-outs, . It helped me get into this sport easily. I would recommend the 540 Bird to anyone who is tight on cash and deciding whether this would help him or her enjoy this new sport. For me, it sure did. Oh, and Decathlon has a 2 year warranty on their products. I don't know any other board who blatantly flaunts this! And mine had a bushing split within the first month, and it was an easy replacement- no questions asked. Thanks for doing a review. It allows people like us to also share our experiences at the same time.
I've got the Oxelo Carve 540 and it carves just fine - for me. After 25 years away from street skating - but not from surfing - this boar has been used alot just to get some slower - but very smooth turns in. No wiggling. Hate wiggling on a skater..... Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.:) Just SMOOTH pretty hard street carving and surf related movement. I train on this when the surf is flat here in Oz and it keeps me sane, fit and retains my surf movement related muscle memory, pretty well. Appreciate the pro review though. Cheers! 🤙
This was my first surfskate and I always recommend that you buy harder bushings at the same time. Decathlon sells longboard replacement ones - for a larger guy like you I'd recommend getting the orange ones. That fixed the hard stop issue for me. As a starter deck I have to disagree with you - I think it's a great intro. People who can afford it tend to recommend "save for a better one" but for many people, saving the extra money might mean a few months not ridding, possibly missing a whole summer of fun. And don't even get me started on the demand issue - it took me months to get a Yow. I have for little money modded this board by adding griptape, getting harder wheels (we disagree on that too) and drilling extra holes to shorten the wheelbase and I've been using it in bowls, where I actually prefer it to my Yow.
I agree. Great starter board. Got me into Surfskate and i later upgraded it with grip and waterborne adapters, but i still enjoy the original trucks on another deck. The small kicktail is the part bothering me the most, and the reason I'll end up upgrading the board too. Still totally worth the price to start Surfskate !
I'm not sure if we have different trucks that people are talking about, but for the the hard stop has nothing to do with bushings. It's metal hitting metal. Changing bushings would do nothing to stop it.
I bought this & I was not disappointed, it suits my needs , during lockdown I got back into longboards after a very long time & I was looking for something a little different just to get me moving. To be honest, so far I’ve used it far more than I thought I would, I simply couldn’t afford to spend three times that amount on something I wasn’t sure of . It is what it is & I’m now thinking of eventually building a board.it’s definitely got me into surf skate.let’s be honest it has its limitations, but for the money that’s okay & for the moment I’m okay skating within those limits too.
it was my first surfskate too as i wanted to see if i would like to get into it without spending a bomb. since then, I've gotten a smoothstar and i don't ride the 540 much anymore, but i keep it for nostalgia sake. in other UA-cam videos, someone has changed the front bushing to a double cone configuration to try to get more movement out of the truck limitation. overall, i will say if you have no other boards lying around and you can't get your hands on any boards to try first, it's not a bad first choice.
You convinced me to buy one of these as my first surfskate, i received it just this morning. I think you should recommend it, but under stipulation ofcourse. I think the board is sold best to people who want to cruise, not to people who want go down the bowl or those who are looking to practice their surfing on land. This board trades some mobility for speed, which is nice if you want to go cruising and be a little extra while doing it. I bought this board as something separate from my cruiser setup, but the 540 is just going to be my new cruiser setup, even if its just for striding and riding its a superior setup to what i been using. It is a pretty good board for a pretty good price, so calling it cheap doesn't do it justice. It also makes for a good buddy board when you still end up buying a superior product, and having it around for spare parts is like never having an excuse not to go out and ride. As some who has been surfskating for a total of 240 minutes, i think you are wrong.
I’m a novice in surfskating - can pump for an hour without any breaks and make medium tight turns. I cannot say if it’s a good surfskate or not - I come from the snowboarding background (I think this helps a bit) and treat surfskate as a good exercise waiting for the winter season. I really like this board because at my 85 kg it is stable but still allows me to pump easily. My friends have these Smoothstars, Yows, Carvers, they mod them and do some advanced tricks and what not and the only board that I actually prefer to my Oxelo is a Carver with some hard trucks (C7 or CX, can’t recall). Smoothstar Mantaray or Toledo are easier to pump but I can easily block the front wheels unintentionally when I push too much and get thrown over the handlebars. This never happened to me on the Oxelo, maybe thanks to this block. I understand how you appreciate more advanced gear once you get better (as a comparison to snowboarding gear). Again, this opinion comes from a novice surfskater (who’s more into something between the surfskating and cruising) and a pretty advanced snowboarder (mostly carving and jumping).
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for: I started snowboarding this year and totally felt in love with it, but during summer I would like to start skateboarding (surfskate) to train and have fun, but without spending too much money as my main focus is snow gear. Thanks for the infos!
It is totally personal opinion. Please people remember that. I watch a lot of people who like this board. Liked it better then waterborne adapter if we talking about ball riding.! So watch all videos try and decide for your self 🤪
It is my first board ever and also first board where I am able to progress like hell within few days. Loosening front truck was a game changer after the first strugle. Worth the price and if I ever want to upgrade to better whatever this will not be waste of money for me.
The hard stop issue mentioned was easily fixed by adjusting the tightness of the bushings or swapping it out altogether. It’s about 105 usd in my region and is hands down the lowest barrier of entry complete board to get into Surfskating.
I agree with what you say, but for me its like a surfboard in a quiver... it has value as its a transition board not quite surfskate but not a cruiser - something that I would pick to cruise and cover distance and that actually carves. I like boards that are all different in personality and this one even though it has a flat deck still puts a smile on my face - the wheels are not gummy but just hard enough to lose enough traction when you pump the thing hard. Try a drop knee and grab a rail either front side or backside and the trucks will naturally make the turn without having to monitor your weight or technique instead of turning in on themselves and stalling like my yow (120 euro)truck plate. So that slower limited truck for me actually is not bad. Maybe from a surfskate view it is not a perfect board but it is certainly has $129(99Euro for me) worth of fun wrapped in it. I have come across the type of boards your talking about - usually given as cheap birthday/christmas presents to be ridden on the day and then shelved till the next garage sale... from my experience and some of the other youtube reviews I don't think the carve540 is one of them.
@@vznquest yeah actually I would... in carving it actually makes you work harder and this could be a good thing as it will force you to improve your technique and it is much more stable at speed. If your objective is surfskate then better to test a few specific surfskates and compare.
I started surf skating 1month ago ( I m 39 )with this board and at first find it amazing I even succeed last week to do drop in in a bowl with it And then this week I received my yow board And wow ... it was almost like I discovered a new sport ! To be fair , this decathlon allows to generate a lot of speed , but damn I so much love my yow board !!
I have just purchased a Smooth Star Manta Ray after watching every review of surfskates I could find. The board is so easy to pump it's unbelievable. It have played around with the Carver and tried to make my own but the Smooth Star is worlds apart. Thank you for all the time you put into these videos, they are invaluable.
I bought this board second hand but hardly used for half price. I removed the spacers. Moved the front truck back the truck length then cut the nose short. Removed that stupid back spong and applied proper grip. Got a 17.5" wheelbase snappy board that is easy to both pump and push, cuts sharp and snappy and slides like butter (occasionally slip while pumping but not too bad) It's not my every day board but it's a fun ride
I have owned this board for over 1 month now, and its my first one. At first, I felt like its impossible to pump, since the wheelbase is too long (distance from truck to truck is 58cm), and Im only 5'5". I gotta drill 2 more holes in the back to shorten the wheelbase, now I find it pretty decent in term of turning and pumping. I agree with you on the the downside of the deck, very slippery, no concave, and the tail is too narrow.
This board is where i started with surfskating. A cheap entry into it. I now have a waterborne fin setup on a 46inch, a slide neme and a carver greenroom CX. All great for different things i find.
I bought this after I got a YOW, and one of the more expensive ones, I'm super new to skateboarding but knew I wanted to keep this hobby so I got a really good YOW. But being new, I wanted to practice some tricks which would trash my YOW more than it already is, so I got the 540 as a practice board for fun to kick around and "smash", and having tired it still being somewhat new, it's pretty much worth the price tag, I think. I mean it's obvious from the type of trucks. But it'll let one decide whether or not surfskate is even for them and a good starter since you're not gonna be pumping so well at the start. Becomes a good hand-me-down or a buddy board. More so for brand new skaters. Compared to the YOW it's a little more stable so it's more noob friendly in that sense too for some. I think there's a place in the market for this board.
Been longboarding for years including electrics - wanting to get into surfskates! My YOW is arriving next week, reckon it’s worth also buying the 540 as a budget/spare practice board? Could you give an update :)
@@karrar2260 I loaned my cheaper board to a friend haha. But I reckon, if you've been doing other kinds of boarding for a while, you don't need a separate board, just go at it on your YOW I think that might help you decide if you need a separate board. I just think I have an addiction to trying different boards, haha. I need to stop.
Bought it new for 85. This is a good start in the world of Surfskating I think. Just have some experience in Casterboards and Snakeboards. I doesn't have a Skateboard, so Waterborne is no option.
I had the alternative model, the one Without the rubber paddle on the tail and I TOTALLY agreement with you. Now that I have a Yow Fanning I know exactly what the concave is for and of course a wider range of motion! Great video! 😊
Hi there! I would not say that is the best surfskate on The market, but is actually a very good one... I've tried many of them (Yow, Carver....) and for that amount of money you get a very decent surfskate... If you change the bushings by puting on harder one (orange from Decathlon), the board become very responsive, it is great to ride Long distances or even in a bowl...what I actually miss is the higher tail... Sorry for being directly, but I think that the problem you have, is the low price of the board...
A really good skater friend once gave me this pointer for bowl riding, point your lead shoulder towards where you want to go (I'm goofy footed ) so I started rotating my shoulders anti clockwise like 15 degrees more and it fixed my flow
Couldn't agree more about the hard stop this front truck will give you. I've borrowed one and it almost sent me flying because of that. I've actually been sort of abused on another UA-cam channel for making that point. ^^
Hi ! Great review, I bought one about 3 weeks ago, found it great to discover this way if skating. First of all like said in an earlier comment I think that you should have loosen the front truck and lubed it a bit, I did that and no more squeaking/cracking + much more flow and fluidity. I think that in France they've launched a new model because I don't have the extra holes for front truck and (as I can remember) I have a slight concave on the board. Imo I would recommend it if you are unsure of wanting to put too much on a surfskate/to see if you like that ride. In French Decathlon you can return a product if you are not satisfied so it's a win/win. But I think that I will keep mine and lend it to friends that want to try or to ride with me ! Keep up the good work, your videos are really well made and helpful ! Cheers
Useful review - the Carve 540 is popular in Thailand (no surprise 😁), but every one I've seen has had it's front truck replaced. Often with Waterborne, but also the Chinese CX trucks have more movement than the original Oxelo one.
Yep, started upgrading after a week. After two weeks I have a Waterborne adapter, Seismic wheels and am about to drill some holes -for now- while looking out for a soulboardiy deck. But I bought it to see if surfskating was something for me. Turns out, it is.
The new gen has everything improved mentioned here, new wheels, good griptape, new truck design. But the concave is still pretty flat and short kicktail. Its a good deal now.
This was my first board ever and I remember really liking it at first. I let a few other people at the park test it out and they liked it too. Once I got the YOW (luckily found it brand new for 120 USD on FB Marketplace), I realized how much easier it was to progress and how much of a better fit it was for me. I can’t go back now. Having said that, I think yours might be damaged or something. Right off the bat you can hear it creak/squeak. You should try loosening the trucks a bit. It’s wayyyy smoother this way and gives a wider range of motion. Also, I don’t know how Decathalon is in the US but I know they have excellent customer service here.Perhaps they’ll take a look/refund you if necessary.
That's just a squeaking pivot cup, very easy to fix. The trucks can't be fixed by loosening. In fact, loosening them would make you hit the hard stop evern harder. It's metal on metal, doesn't have anything to do with the bushings.
@@SurfskateLove thank for the info, guess I don’t have enough knowledge. I took mine to Decathalon and they loosened them a bit. After that it was way easier to ride and gave a wider range of motion. Might wanna give it a shot.
@@kerenvsworld4011 I loosened it as far as it goes as soon as I got it. Always do on those bushing based models because I know I will want as much flexibility as they can give.
A heavier rider will reach that "hard stop" sooner, I expect. I am 6'3 and 200 lb. I'd love to hear a review of that Slide Neme Pro "Spacial" 35 inch in the video. I bought it last week. Your tutorials are very helpful in selecting a board and getting the most out of it. Thanks brother.
Txs for the vid! A little help: bring your front shoulder in. You are riding too open which is important to gain stability ( same in surfing and snowboarding) youll feel it and it will add a bit style maybe as well. Blessbless
I bought this board after watching the review linked below, and it doesn't have the 'hard stop' as referred to in your video. My board has a concave (similar to review below) it's not flat as the board in your video , I'm starting to think maybe Decathlon sent you the wrong board..? My Oxelo 540 board has exceeded my expectations and I really like it tbh. It's been great for a beginner like me and I find that if you loosen the trucks it turns / carves much better and it's really fast compared to other surfskates I've tried. I'm able to generate good speeds even uphill. I'm approx 160 lbs so I guess heavier riders would need harder bushings to avoid any 'hard stops'. Note: You can adjust the wheelbase approx 1.8 inches from short to long. I use the default medium (in-between) setting. If I'd only used the board for flat ground surfskate training then I would have used the short setting, but since there's some hills in the area I live then I prefer the medium setting to get it a bit more stable if that makes sense. I haven't tried the long setting. ua-cam.com/video/bqgCDFTxBBc/v-deo.html
@@SurfskateLove YEs I tried several boards/trucks in the beginning and it was very hard for me to decide. After a bit of testing i found the easiest one for me was carver board w/ reversed kingpin trucks. So the plan was to buy the carver but then I saw the review of the Oxelo 540 and decided to try it. I'm a sceptic so i actually kept the board in the plastic wrapping and tested it inside a long-ish hallway in case I had to return it if that makes sense. If you'd said to me 'here's a carver and here's an oxelo540, which one do you want?' then i'd go for a carver any day, i do believe that a brand like carver have better quality products and a better (stricter) quality control.
Very interesting, was waiting for this video, thanks! I am looking at that truck and it looks like the nock off CX sold on Amazon. That hard stop was exactly what I thought would happen when looking at the back of the hanger. I may get one and just file down that part of the hanger to free up the motion.
I continue riding this board but with yow meraki trucks and cinetic wheels and is not that bad, just changed the pad, the grip is not that bad (even barefoot) and the board it's quite hard. Sometimes I ride a felipe 77 smoothstar but is less radical with softer turns to me. I use a carver resin just to carve smooth and quick to the swimming pool and few times my swelltech jamie o'brien that is the most unstable one.
I ordered this board because it's affordable and there are literally no other boards in stock. A beginner doesn't want to wait 2 months to order a piece of wood with wheels attached.
Great review, this was my first board. Unfortunately back then there were no good reviews like yours. I had to change the wheels, the grip was gone after a month, so I had to buy a new one. After that I bought the Waterborne adapter and used the trucks of my longboard. I also do not recommend this board, is hard to pump and the deck is horrible. But amazingly the trucks work really good on a longboard.
Hi Has you say its a budged board but beeing on a budget its not a bad thing and surprises can be found. You cant mistake skate and surfskate and you review is all about skate and few about surfskate. This 540 is good to emulate long and sup surf boards. You need to work them because they dont have the hi tech shapes that short boards uses. For me it was a surprise to find a great bargain that feels great. Its all about having a board with sand feeling to ride along the coast.
Just set up my old Koastal longboard with a Yow V4 adapter, Krux trucks with Ace bushings and some Tarantula tunnels. Pretty fun trick. But my main thought is this is fun to ride but expensive for a board thats actually less versatile then a normal skateboard.
I had to buy one because my 3 year old boy made damage on it in the store. So I thought better use it. I am a 40 year oud beginner. And I don't know any about it. But I learned 2 things. 1. That board showed me that's surf skating is al lot of fun. 2. And I buy next time a better board. Because the wood is flying off the deck. But first I destroy this one. Because I really suck at it. 🤣
I have had a few experiments with revenge trucks my most successful revenge truck front, matching gullwing on high raiser plate rear - if you want to learn to surf and squat / work to carve it is great training but even the carve540 puts you closer to a surfskate feel and it's just easier.
I thought it was great to get me into the sport, the tight stop was not really an issue while i am starting because i need to build confidence in my turns, but fo get pumping and carving along flat roads its great fun, but am trying to get a soulboardiy and have also ordered a Byron bay by yow.
so i bought (and returned) the board because of that hard stop issue that you mentioned, lol. now i'm looking at slide. like you i'm tall at 6'2 - do you think i could get by with the 32" Diamond Kaena or better go for the 35" Neme Pro model? i want to practice surfing when not surfing (aka want to rip into turns/carves). but also lots of cruising. wondering if the longer board/wheel base would suit tall people like us better, or if it would be too stiff? thx and cheers!
As an alternative low cost surfskate - Supersports in Thailand stocks two basic bushing surfskates - 5,900 and 7,500 complete, including a skate tool. Mega Bangna branch has stock. I've just put the same type of Chinese CX trucks on an old deck, and it works well. Also- Supersports are now advertising Yow boards, they say they will have stock soon. Hopefully the entry of a big sports retailer into the Thai market will stop all the profiteering by unofficial resellers. Also - just buy a deck and order some Geele or Rare Ant CX trucks and bolt them on. I got mine from Lazada for 1,200 THB including the bolts, and just bolted them on to an old deck. Decent wheels and bearings are low cost too - so a complete board would be around 4000 THB.
@@Fogbrush now I’ve got Mindless from Pavement store for my 2nd board after Geele cx7 Chinese board. It’s not a cheap price but I think it’s reasonable price that I can afford. And I don’t regret that. It’s great 👍
please ride the Neme Pro 35 By Slide ! and Do you recommend buying it if im a beginner, Im afraid i might not be able to pump efficiently. as theres much people doing videos on it !
@@SurfskateLove Thanks! I also have 2 Yows (waikiki and Padang Padang) which I love. I don't use the Decathlon anymore. I had it for sell but there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand so I'm trying to think If I modified in a way I would use it
Just waiting for them to get in stock. But I'm already pretty certain that the first problem will be that they don't have a board long enough for my stance preference.
Hey man. I'm caught between minds massively, should I go with a new carve 540 (€110) or a smoothstar Toledo 77 (2nd hand at 160)? Would smoothstar be too difficult to ride as a beginner?
Smoothstar is actually easy for beginners. Those are completely different boards. Are you looking for more of a pure surf trainer, or a street cruiser?
I own both (carve 540 and Slide Gussie Avalanche ) and I would say: yes! For around 90 EUR more you’ll get a lot more fun out of your board with the slide. But I don’t agree with Steve on the Carve being a bad choice in general. You can absolutely have fun with it as well. Still, go for the Slide!
@@SurfskateLove Yes but it could be a quick fix for the someone on a really constrained budged. Although I'm surprised that after so many years Decathlon didn't fix the flaw themselves.
@@SurfskateLove Looking at the Triton Prismal (32inch) or the Signal (31inch). I'm a beginner with surfing experience, height 6ft and weight 78kg. Any help appreciated 🙏🏼
I bought a other model, I think it's the second version and it doesn't have that grip on the back. I don't get why they put those 😂 it doesn't convey safety to me ahaha
Hi. Where I live, Barcelona, there's a lot of this oxelo "carvers". They sell this like "surfskates", or at least the people think that. But this oxelo are not surfskates. If someone want surfskating with this they need to buy a waterborne adapter for the frontside truck. Good videos, keep on this way. Regards.
Im using 540 just different colour :) maybe its not the best surfskate as u said but i think its good enough for a beginner. Thanks to it i just got into surfskating and got interested in the sport withoyt paying a lit just to check if i even like it or not
I bought it and added the Slide surskate system. Doesn't deserve the name surfskate. It doesn't even carve that much compared to a standard cruiser. I reckon Paris trucks are better
To be fair to them, there's no mention of surfskating, the closest is a mere mention of surfing, "... mimic the sensation of surfing..." in their site, but I can understand the general dissatisfaction.
Watch this review to see how I feel about Slide in general: ua-cam.com/video/5YV3CMUq614/v-deo.html And with that in mind, here's my review of the Neme Pro: I like it, I don't love it. My biggest issue with Slide is their decks. I don't like either the Swallow Wahine or the Neme Pro decks. The Neme Pro is too narrow for my preference. It doesn't have a solid tail rocker like I prefer. And it is also very flat. But rides very well and I like it a lot. I can ride it very easily in a bowl. It's really great for lond distance cruising. Like perfect for longboarders who want a longer board they feel comfortable on but that can pump and carve very well.
@@SurfskateLove Hey thanks for your advice!! I would be also interessted to know, which one of both Slide models you would choose on your own preference....the Swallow or the Neme Pro??
@@Long_Skates Probably the Swallow. But I don't like the decks on either. Honestly, what you want most off a Slide are the trucks. Then try them on your own decks. IMO.
Oooh. Mate that is the first time we disagree. Ur negativity towards this set is a bit appalling. Yes the movement is restricted. But there is tons of fun to be had for a good price. Enuf said.
J. Decathlon is the "fast fashion of sports". Only crap. BTW Slide does not manufacture... they simply copied the Carver C7, modified the appearance and order them in China. Flow is another knock off; you can find the "Slide" SS in alibaba for 50 bucks. That says all.
Hi Surfskate Love 🛹 :). I've been following your channel for more than a year now! I just like to ask if will you recommend or do you think its a good idea to install or use a Waterborne Surf Adapter on a Oxelo Carve540 or on a slide track or even a Carver CX knockoff?. thanks.
Totally agree! That’s my first board few months ago. I sold it after 4 days. However this Carve540 helped me to decide whether i should invest more on this hobby. I end up replaced it with carver C7 and a yow S5 because of your previous videos.

I bought this one because of the cheaper price and availability. It didn't break the bank to get started. Decathlon also sells protective gear for very low prices.

And in some countries there are no other options except Oxelo. So if you don't have a choice, I think it's good enough.
I got this board after! My Triton ( CX ) .. because my son wanted to have a go. He is happy as hell!
That's good to hear. Thanks for sharing.
I've got the Oxelo Carve 540 and it carves just fine - for me.
After 25 years away from street skating - but not from surfing - this boar has been used alot just to get some slower - but very smooth turns in. No wiggling. Hate wiggling on a skater.....
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.:)
Just SMOOTH pretty hard street carving and surf related movement.
I train on this when the surf is flat here in Oz and it keeps me sane, fit and retains my surf movement related muscle memory, pretty well.
Appreciate the pro review though.
Cheers! 🤙
And.... I did change the wheels out to some 70mm 83A Globe cruiser wheels last month and its a smoother, more grippy ride. :)
I agree. Great starter board!!
I'm not sure if we have different trucks that people are talking about, but for the the hard stop has nothing to do with bushings. It's metal hitting metal. Changing bushings would do nothing to stop it.
How about cut off the hitting point? Should it be better?
@@panadphatthanaphinyakun1854 I imagine you could file that off. I don't know.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it!
Again, this opinion comes from a novice surfskater (who’s more into something between the surfskating and cruising) and a pretty advanced snowboarder (mostly carving and jumping).
totally agree.... all depends. this is a surprisingly good board. very stable. increases confidence and is fun
Hi Steeve, That's my exact feeling about this cheap board, thank you very much for your honesty.
The hard stop issue mentioned was easily fixed by adjusting the tightness of the bushings or swapping it out altogether.
It’s about 105 usd in my region and is hands down the lowest barrier of entry complete board to get into Surfskating.
The hard stop has nothing to do with bushings. It's metal hitting metal.
@@SurfskateLove so why does it seem to fix the issue for some ppl on here pls? thx
I have come across the type of boards your talking about - usually given as cheap birthday/christmas presents to be ridden on the day and then shelved till the next garage sale... from my experience and some of the other youtube reviews I don't think the carve540 is one of them.
so you'd recommend this board for someone who 1. primarily cruises around town but also 2. wants to get carvey / train for surfing a bit?
@@vznquest yeah actually I would... in carving it actually makes you work harder and this could be a good thing as it will force you to improve your technique and it is much more stable at speed. If your objective is surfskate then better to test a few specific surfskates and compare.
I started surf skating 1month ago ( I m 39 )with this board and at first find it amazing
I even succeed last week to do drop in in a bowl with it
And then this week I received my yow board
And wow ... it was almost like I discovered a new sport !
To be fair , this decathlon allows to generate a lot of speed , but damn I so much love my yow board !!
which yow board you've got?
I have just purchased a Smooth Star Manta Ray after watching every review of surfskates I could find. The board is so easy to pump it's unbelievable. It have played around with the Carver and tried to make my own but the Smooth Star is worlds apart.
Thank you for all the time you put into these videos, they are invaluable.
Thank you! That makes me happy to hear. I'm just trying to give people what I wish I had when I was starting out.
I bought this board second hand but hardly used for half price.
I removed the spacers. Moved the front truck back the truck length then cut the nose short.
Removed that stupid back spong and applied proper grip.
Got a 17.5" wheelbase snappy board that is easy to both pump and push, cuts sharp and snappy and slides like butter (occasionally slip while pumping but not too bad)
It's not my every day board but it's a fun ride
I have owned this board for over 1 month now, and its my first one. At first, I felt like its impossible to pump, since the wheelbase is too long (distance from truck to truck is 58cm), and Im only 5'5". I gotta drill 2 more holes in the back to shorten the wheelbase, now I find it pretty decent in term of turning and pumping. I agree with you on the the downside of the deck, very slippery, no concave, and the tail is too narrow.
Only for the truck, you can drill grind the limitation out a bit or as much you want. The alloy would not break, meanwhile inrease pump movement range
Thanks Steve, I tot of getting one to start this surfskate fun journey but I think I will go for the meraki truck system. Good review bro 💕
I just bought it, and I loved it!
Cheers
I loosened the truck as far as it would go immediately when I got it. The hard stop has nothing to do with bushings. It's metal hitting metal.
Useful review - the Carve 540 is popular in Thailand (no surprise 😁), but every one I've seen has had it's front truck replaced. Often with Waterborne, but also the Chinese CX trucks have more movement than the original Oxelo one.
Which waterborne can i use yo replace it ???
My fisrt board ❤️ in my country. The price up to 2x around 5xxx ( 200 usd)
I just got mine and had the hard stop issue as well. But loosing the truck solved it for me.

Have you tried any other surfskate trucks?
@@SurfskateLove
YEs I tried several boards/trucks in the beginning and it was very hard for me to decide.
Yes, I imagine that would be possible.
So many boards to learn about!!
I guess that's y decathlon called it a longboard first in its super weird long name. Even though it's not long and not really a cruiser.
We can get those here for 100eur that is abut 118 USD.
It is a great low price board in case you can't get your hards on a miller or simillar.
Oh..you got your slide neme pro! Have fun with it!🤙🏼
Yes, love it!
Hi
Has you say its a budged board but beeing on a budget its not a bad thing and surprises can be found.
But my main thought is this is fun to ride but expensive for a board thats actually less versatile then a normal skateboard.
maybe grinding down the contact point in the trucks would solve the turning limitation issue?
Or just starting on a Carver CX to begin with, haha.
What about revenge trucks mounted on Globe on shore series like the Globe Costa surfskate? I have one and I'm interested of your opinion.
Diamond would work for you. I'm honestly not a fan of the Neme Pro. Pumping isn't efficient.
It’s a famous board in Thailand and the price from stores is just 110$ but resale price is 159-200$ that’s too expensive for me
As an alternative low cost surfskate - Supersports in Thailand stocks two basic bushing surfskates - 5,900 and 7,500 complete, including a skate tool.

I’m not a fan. The wheelbase is too wide and it’s not a great pumping sensation.

I'll see if I can get my hands on one. But they only have 31" decks. I need 33-34". They have 40" versions, but that's way too long for my preference.

I would, for sure. Carver CX is much better.

Like the way that it has a flat deck because a surfboard is flat and a surfskate is used to copy surfboard
Do you have a chance to review spiceskate? I want to see it.

@@SurfskateLove Probably more of a cruiser to begin. I think the smoothstar might not be as enjoyable for longer rides?
Two bare feet, do a even cheeper surf skate in the UK, there are around £70
Here in Italy a Slide Surfskate costs 195 EUR, and the Carve 540 goes at 109.
Do you think a Slide Surfskate is worth the price difference?
I own both (carve 540 and Slide Gussie Avalanche ) and I would say: yes! For around 90 EUR more you’ll get a lot more fun out of your board with the slide. But I don’t agree with Steve on the Carve being a bad choice in general. You can absolutely have fun with it as well. Still, go for the Slide!
Yes, I think so.

No. Surfskate brand?
@@SurfskateLove yes
@@itachi5723 I’ll look it up. Thanks!
Well, If you don’t like it so much you could give it out to me 🌚my friend has the same board and it rides smooth enough for me though
Thanks to it i just got into surfskating and got interested in the sport withoyt paying a lit just to check if i even like it or not
That's great to hear!
Let's make it into a $129 wall clock. It'll look great on your wall.
😂
I bought it and added the Slide surskate system. Doesn't deserve the name surfskate. It doesn't even carve that much compared to a standard cruiser. I reckon Paris trucks are better
To be fair to them, there's no mention of surfskating, the closest is a mere mention of surfing, "... mimic the sensation of surfing..." in their site, but I can understand the general dissatisfaction.
Can you review Slides Neme Pro
Watch this review to see how I feel about Slide in general: ua-cam.com/video/5YV3CMUq614/v-deo.html
And with that in mind, here's my review of the Neme Pro: I like it, I don't love it.
@@SurfskateLove Thank you so much Steve. If I would buy one Slide. Which one do you recommend Swallow Wahine or Neme Pro decks?
I am 6” Tall (183cm).
IMO.
nkd and nkx surfskates?
Not available in the US. 😕
Oooh. Mate that is the first time we disagree. Ur negativity towards this set is a bit appalling. Yes the movement is restricted. But there is tons of fun to be had for a good price. Enuf said.
Your suppose to ride bare foot on it

If you buy cheap, you end up buying twice
That's how I feel about it. But a lot of people seem to like this one as a starter board.
@@SurfskateLove it's got a famous brand attached to it and it has the name surfskate
Save your money and buy a better board!
J. Decathlon is the "fast fashion of sports". Only crap. BTW Slide does not manufacture... they simply copied the Carver C7, modified the appearance and order them in China. Flow is another knock off; you can find the "Slide" SS in alibaba for 50 bucks. That says all.
It's a carver CX copy, not C7.
First sir!
Never, never , ever buy decathlon. Never.
Hi Surfskate Love 🛹 :). I've been following your channel for more than a year now! I just like to ask if will you recommend or do you think its a good idea to install or use a Waterborne Surf Adapter on a Oxelo Carve540 or on a slide track or even a Carver CX knockoff?. thanks.
I would say that's much better than the original Decathlon truck.
