I recall, decades ago, listening to Art Bell interview Joe Walsh on Coast to Coast. They talked about ham radio (apparently Joe was into it and, of course, Art Bell was passionate about it) up through his time with the Eagles. I recall Joe commenting, calling them "The Egos." He avoided elaborating and did not make disparaging remarks about the rest of the band.
Sandra, I am a bass player in SF and have played recently with Al Garth their road sax player..He made the same comment to me about Frey and Henely...the Egos..
Once, at the Omni in Atlanta, sometime in the late 70's I'm guessing. Fantastic concert. Thing I remember most, I counted 36 guitars on stands before they started playing. I'd never seen that many guitars on stage before. I remember them playing and everything sounded just like the album. Great band.

Writing good songs is often challenging. Writing great songs is often challenging and is also unlikely to achieve. Writing Eagles songs requires almost super human talent, as well as hefty doses of good fortune and luck. The Eagles definitely had the secret blend of eleven herbs and spices.

It's not like they just decided to take the song away from him for chuckles. So far as Henley and Frey getting the most of the proceeds, sure they did. They did the lion's share of the responsibilities. Why shouldn't they get the biggest amount of money? The saddest part of this is if Felder had just accepted the new structure like Walsh and Timothy B Schmidt did, he would would have made more money in the long run.
@@JanPratt-k5n You forget Felder is a full partner--he has a signed contract to prove it, Once the contract is signed it is final! The Egos had been cheating Felder for years! He put a stop to it. He is still getting paid to this day!
i still think of Joe Walsh as The James Gang... I find it difficult to associate him with the Eagles. even though I've seen plenty of footage of hotel California
You can't put two alpha wolves in the same pack without seeing blood on the ground. Frey and Henley killed the Eagles by treating it like their personal corporation when everyone else just wanted to make music.
Henley and Frey destroyed the best band they had. They thougt to be the best of them, they were NOT, they were narcisticall man. Problems with Randy, Bernie,Felder,Walsh. It says it all.
That entire Cranston benefit was such total BS. Felder had every right to be upset! Why should he be expected to perform for free because Henley and Frey wanted to support their own personal political agenda?
@@messi8921 Too many people chime in and really none of them know what was happened. Most bands had this problem cramped together for long periods of time adding drugs/alcohol to kill the time. They all did Zepplin,The Who,Black Sabbath even the beatles needed their space
@@bigwoody4704 exactly, you chimed in and said Felder made the threats. They both made threats to eachother. Frey and Felder both admitted to this in the documentary.
SAD...Men with such musical genious cant get along...Frye and Henley destroyed lives in that band. The arogance showed itself as I have a DVD of their farewell one that was filmed in Melbourne Austrailia and Stewart Smith ...the guitarist they hired to do alot of the guitar work (and what a magnificent guitarist he is) was put way off to the side...just because he was not a eagle!
Linda got the first 4 members together & also introduced them to Jackson Browne who taught Glen & Don how to write lyrics for # 1 songs...Both Linda & Jackson should always be remembered as honorary band members
It's a shame there are only 4 DVD concerts of the eagles, considering the cool tours they filmed and their various TV performances, they could've had some sick DVD collections
Not really. They were boring live. Onstage they played reproductions of the album versions of their songs. That made them come across as stale and unimaginative along the lines of what makes a rock band a good live act.
@@pewsterbaby yerfukked...saw them several times live...consummate musicians and shows! Not the same energy as AC/DC or Metallica but a different genre...
So great! Joe, I love you. Please just keep playing your friendly guitar. You could always bring out the MAGIC stored in a guitar. Try a 12-string. Ha !!
according to Felder the comment was taken out of context. Felder contends he said it to the senator's wife who thanked him but he hadn't met her yet and wasn't sure who she was. Frey felt it was said sarcastically because he knew Felder wasn't happy playing free for the benefit. Either way it resulted in a 14yr break up
Felder was a brilliant guitarist and extremely talented. But it was common knowledge that Fry, and Henley flew the eagles and everyone knew it. But Henley and fry had to prove it even to themselves. Fry went out and did a solo successfully , as well as Henley and both knocked it out of the park. Joe Walsh was already proven when they picked him up of COURSE there not going to respect Felder the same. There solo successes only solidified there past decisions they made. Hell even Timothy B Schmitt jumped up and wrote and sang 'I can't tell you why" enough for Fry, and Henley to see damn he's for real like us.
But Don Felder came up with the rif of their best song and the other two have always tried to take credit for it. And if it wasn't for Felder the Eagles would have remained a country rock middle of the road band. See how they haven't done anything since they kicked him out of the band. That is true.
@@milt6208 I don't know if Henley and Fry tried to take credit for his skills , but if they did then your correct that's shitty. However there is a BIG difference between writing music and writing the music AND the lyric's a complete song. But they should have valued him more for sure. Every member has a particular skill to offer the band and they may have failed at acknowledging that to him I don't know. But as far as I know Felder never wrote entire songs on his own. I was under the impression that he was what I call the Icing man (lead playing for songs) like icing on a cake. And they could have used better communication skills to let them know that , that is what they needed him for and gave him credit for.
Felder couldn't sing so that's why they recorded it without him, and that was chicken shit, randy was really shy and if he didn't feel comfortable doing the high notes he wasn't doing it, but they made some awesome music that still jams to this day
Not really, how many hits did he produce on his own? Henley,Frey and Walsh had plenty of solo success. They made him rich at 60 million,he joined the band on what their 3/4 album. While he is a talented string bender for sure he was replaceable
^ ^ This is actually pretty dark...... but unintensionally funny. What sort of person offers you not a line but a plate of cocaine at a business meeting? Still they wrote some great songs. "One of these nights" still one of my favourite songs! Foxy Country Rock Love fae Scotland VVxx

They did the lion's share of the responsibilities. Why shouldn't they get the biggest amount of money? The saddest part of this is if Felder had just accepted the new structure like Walsh and Timothy B Schmidt did, he would would have made more money in the long run.
That’s drugs. They weren’t evil. The drugs are evil.
My dad graduated from the same high school as glenn frey, although they were several years apart
Yes. Back in the 1990s when they did the Hell Freezes Over tour.
You can't put two alpha wolves in the same pack without seeing blood on the ground. Frey and Henley killed the Eagles by treating it like their personal corporation when everyone else just wanted to make music.
Wow that’s so sad dog eat dog
Damn Joe Walsh is a American Hero. I glad I watched this video
It's good that somebody gives a damn about the vets since the criminal US 'Government' never seems to.
Loved him since I was a kid!
Eagles Randy miesner Damm straight
The two guys that thought they were the best and screwed up the whole band . Frey and Henley thought they were Paul and John .
Henley and Frey destroyed the best band they had. They thougt to be the best of them, they were NOT, they were narcisticall man. Problems with Randy, Bernie,Felder,Walsh. It says it all.
This unfortunately happens when every member of the band is a lead singer!
That entire Cranston benefit was such total BS. Felder had every right to be upset! Why should he be expected to perform for free because Henley and Frey wanted to support their own personal political agenda?
I know! A concert for some old swampy democrat who probably didn’t know any Eagles songs!
Felder was the one who made the threat of "kicking ass",guess he found out how valuable he really was.
@@bigwoody4704 there were threats on both sides 🤷🏼
@@messi8921 Too many people chime in and really none of them know what was happened. Most bands had this problem cramped together for long periods of time adding drugs/alcohol to kill the time. They all did Zepplin,The Who,Black Sabbath even the beatles needed their space
@@bigwoody4704 exactly, you chimed in and said Felder made the threats. They both made threats to eachother. Frey and Felder both admitted to this in the documentary.
No need to get out of their own way. They are still touring and #1.
It would have been hard to be a member of the Eagles not named Henley or Frey
SAD...Men with such musical genious cant get along...Frye and Henley destroyed lives in that band.
The arogance showed itself as I have a DVD of their farewell one that was filmed in Melbourne Austrailia and Stewart Smith ...the guitarist they hired to do alot of the guitar work (and what a magnificent guitarist he is) was put way off to the side...just because he was not a eagle!
What's even more tragic is that Don Felder never gotten the opportunity to make amends with Glenn Frey before his death.
Anything mentioning details about The Eagles needs to mention Linda Ronstadt. She literally got them together...
Linda got the first 4 members together & also introduced them to Jackson Browne who taught Glen & Don how to write lyrics for # 1 songs...Both Linda & Jackson should always be remembered as honorary band members
Saw them 2014 Calgary. AB
Dysfunctional band
-the best music
And who to blame? They brought all that tragedy upon themselves!
Or the most part I would say yes you're correct.
The same way I would say yes, to homeless people being in a condition they are in.
@@pewsterbaby 100% wrong
@@pewsterbaby yerfukked...saw them several times live...consummate musicians and shows! Not the same energy as AC/DC or Metallica but a different genre...

So great! Joe, I love you. Please just keep playing your friendly guitar. You could always bring out the MAGIC stored in a guitar. Try a 12-string. Ha !!
I'm with the big lebowski
Bwahahahaha a blast from the past! Big fan.
The Dude says "I hate the effen eagles" and gets kicked out of the cab on the freeway

The mighty Smokin Joe, top bloke 👌
according to Felder the comment was taken out of context. Felder contends he said it to the senator's wife who thanked him but he hadn't met her yet and wasn't sure who she was. Frey felt it was said sarcastically because he knew Felder wasn't happy playing free for the benefit. Either way it resulted in a 14yr break up
loved when Jackson Browne sang with them
JB - A very fine musician indeed.
Browne the woman beater? Lol. He sucks
Best band ever have it all still, god bless Glen frey,,,r.i.p,,,no there band has came near them...
It's not easy being a rock and roll millionaire
Especially when you're mammoth airheads and dirtbags............
Why did Joe Walsh join a middle of the road/ easy listening group like the Eagles in the first place?
From what I’ve heard, seems like Henley and Frey were real dictator like
On drugs or not they made some great music
True
Felder couldn't sing so that's why they recorded it without him, and that was chicken shit, randy was really shy and if he didn't feel comfortable doing the high notes he wasn't doing it, but they made some awesome music that still jams to this day
Don Felder wrote they best song and frey and Henley got so jelly they kicked Don out
Um no,how'd he do when they broke up? The rest of the band contributed to the composition
1st off the Eagles were extremely lucky Joe Walsh joined the band, and secondly when Don Felder left the Eagles were over.
💯 agreed 👍
Not really, how many hits did he produce on his own? Henley,Frey and Walsh had plenty of solo success. They made him rich at 60 million,he joined the band on what their 3/4 album. While he is a talented string bender for sure he was replaceable
Felder was criminally underappreciated in the Eagles.
Such awesome songs, but it's not cool how Eagles
do not like anyone covering them here on YT. \|/
Yes, let's all shed a tear for the multi-millionaires who had it all and didn't know how to handle it. Joe Walsh forever!!
Joe Walsh forever!
