This was Harry Enfield in his prime, Absolute masterclass of the art of the comedy sketch, which no longer has the same wide appeal as in this era ~ Just Brilliant.
Lovely character - I believe based on a sailor whom Harry Enfield once knew - not knew, met somewhere, saw in the circus, on a flight to New York, did I say sailor? No I meant landslide, landing-craft, whoo there Les! Landlord! Now let me see, you gave me a tenner? What's up Mike, not drinking? Funnily enough Les, no.
That character acts very similar to old people that have dementia . That's the way they go on . Memory badly functioning and recollection of events all mixed up .
My mum's name is Lesley and she sometimes goes on verbal tangents - though not quite as extreme as these - so every time: *_"WHOA there, Leslie"_* is exclaimed, we both piss ourselves more due to the almost personal nature it's taken on for us! 🤣🤣
WHAT !!!!? not funny , you're joking , I mean silly , I mean , what u on about , Maureen come n have a listen to this , I mean Sandra , what am i talking about , are you there Ted , i mean Maureen , yours was a tenner right ?
I am not surprised to hear that this character was based upon a sailor. Michael Ripper plays a retired sailor in the movie The Reptile and has a similar beard.
Dont suppose you have the scene with Martin Clunes and Les the forgetful barman do you? It used to be on youtube but cannot find it anywhere now. Cheers
Does anyone know the police officers names in real life please? I recognise one of their faces but can’t for the life of me remember what else I have seen him on.

He is a genius comic. So many brilliant believable characters. Not even Dick Emery bless him, could match this genius.

One of my all time favourite Harry Enfield sketches of all time, thanks so much for uploading.

What does he mean when he taps his nose and says "Best wait for the ol bill to leave ay"
He says "Best Way For The Old Bill To Go"....Meaning best not drink on duty.
Old Bill = police
Harry Enfield is a comedy genius……there’s nothing funny produced anymore due to the can’t say this can’t do that bullshit brigade
Back when Harry Enfield was funny, before he resorted to having every character shouting as loud as possible in a London accent.
Proper talent that lad. Hope he's doing well. Now, his type of humour is cancelled by woke w#####s!
