How is the the SQE1 exam marked?
There are 12 subjects that you need to know for the SQE1 exam. Ethics is split across these subjections. The subject 12 subjects are split into 2 exams between, called Functioning Legal Knowledge parts 1 and 2, as follows:
FLK1:
Business
Dispute Resolution
Contract
Tort
Legal System
Public
Legal Services
FLK2:
Property
Wills
Land
Trusts
Solicitors Accounts
Criminal
Each exam has 180 questions, so 360 in total. So this means you could get 30 questions on each subject (so 30 questions on Wills, 30 questions on Contract, etc). Given that the pass mark is 57% (at least that is the highest for the previous SQE exams so far, at the time of writing), this means you need to answer 103 questions correctly out of 180 in FLK1, and then 103 questions correctly out of 180 in FLK2.
Alternatively put, you could give false answers to 77 questions in the first exam and still pass.
Likewise, you could give false answers to 77 questions in FLK2 and still pass.
But again, if you were to approach this on a subject-by-subject basis, this would mean you answering 18 questions out of 30 correctly in each area, working on this assumption. But it's only based on your overall marks for the FLK1 exam, and then the FLK2 exam. The SRA has highlighted that there is not necessarily an even distribution within each subject.
We do know that there is an equal weighting given to correct answers to each subject, with the exception of legal services, which is slightly less, as can be seen on these diagrams.

You would be able to retake the failed part independently.
I don’t think so, because I’ve got mine coming up and there are on 2 different dates
What do you mean false answers?
This means the answers that are not correct.
There are 13 subjects, not 12. Are you not counting legal services as a subject?
Hi there, yes there are 13 subjects, at the time of recording we included Legal system and public law into one module. But now, we have broken down these subject into individual modules. You can see them here: futuresolicitor.co.uk/sqe1/
