Underrated??? Ja'net has NEVA been underrated by ANY1!!! Maybe u just didnt hear much about her where ur from, but trust me, she was an American Treasure in our Community since this song was 1st played on TV in 1975... She was already a shining star on the TV show "Good Times" since 1974 even after the John Amos was fired... Some of us even thot Sherman Hemsley was singing the male part of that song too (guilty😅) She upheld Good Times the last 3 seasons back wen there was actual FULL seasons, haaa!😅
I’m curious which episode this is from or if it is from another source because this copy goes farther than the Season 6 Episode 7 (The Expectant Father) ending does. It is close, but this one is just a little bit longer unless there are two halves put together (the piano intro with the rarely heard first part with singing followed by the second usually heard part with the humming that normally follows the piano intro without the singing part). I’ve been through every episode of every season I can find, and I can’t find one where the ending matches this one. Season 6 Episode 7 is as close to this copy as I can find but stops several seconds short of this one before it gets to “yeah we finally, finally, finally, got a piece of the pie.”
Omg my scalp tingled when I heard the piano at the beginning-haven’t heard that since I was a little girl and it was bedtime! Such memories wow! Feeds the soul! Thank you for posting this! ♥️
I had a love/hate relationship with this song, when I was a kid. Liked the show, loved the end credits, but hated that soon after we were told, "it's time for you guys to go to bed."

R.I.P. Ja’Net DuBois for your amazing voice singing the theme song for The Jeffersons and your sassy wit on Good Times as Wilona Woods. You will be dearly missed by all your fans. You brought the church back home when you sang ‘Movin’ On Up.
Great song, I always liked the closing music, but they rarely played it to the end. Usually got cut off. This is great. Usually started at the humming part, so I didn't even know she sang a verse before that.
I absolutely LOVE the closing theme! So glad someone finally has uploaded the full version. Anyone else notice that this was uploaded the day Sherman Hemsley (George) died?

JA'NET Dubois wrote and sing this song for the Jefferson theme song. R.I.P JA'NET aka WINONA. She died suddenly today at her home. She was 74 years old. 💞🙏❤🙏❤💞
It's strange but I was working on my guitar and feeling depressed about my life. And all of a sudden out of no where this song just came into my head. Not the opening version, this one. And I hadn't watched this show in a long time..... I found myself humming to it. I was thinking about how great and soulful Janet sang this. Of course I had to come here. listen to that voice, I love when she hums it......she's Awesome, I can see her singing it now. man what a woman.
Yes! This slower outtro sneaks into my head sometimes--when i'm feeling weary in particular. I grew up outside of New Orleans and it just feels like the Mississippi just creeping on by in the relentless sun... which is somehow really soothing? :)
Interesting thing is the woman that sings this is JaNet Dubois, she isn't a large woman in fact she's on the thin/skinny side. But she sounds like a large woman singing this theme song.
Do yall have any idea how long I've waited to hear this whole song? When the credits rolled it was always from the middle of the song. A belated thanks to who ever posted this.
I always loved when started humming. My mum was one of the world's greatest hummers. Especially when she was ironing and starching clothes. That was always her sweet spot when she was most at ease. R.I.H.

I feel emotional too when I hear this song. I've seen other people reply the same thing in the comments. I wonder if has something to do with us knowing, back in the day, that when this song came on it was time for bed.
She was actually the cowriter. The main writer was Jeff Barry. Now, even if you don't know his name; you know his work. He, along with female songwriting partner Ellie Greenwich, wrote stuff like Da Doo Ron Ron & Then He Kissed Me for The Crystals, Hanky Panky for The Raindrops then covered by Tommy James, and River Deep-Mountain High for Ike and Tina Turner. Hope this helps.
