    Fun fact: If you become an elector before forming The Netherlands you get to stay in the HRE. I got a PU (on ruler's death) on The Palatinate and was friendly to the Emperor and asked for electorate

      Only think you cannot use, Netherlands special government, which cannot become emperor.

      @@aqvamarek5316 I prefer to take Stadhouder even though it bars you from becoming emperor. Sure, lots of benefits from being the emperor but Stadhouder is such a good government type that nobody else gets, plus the no stability loss on ruler death is amazing if you aren't playing Catholic. A portion of the mission tree expects you to play as Stadhouder too.

      @@copeandseethe9279 Did both, a test run as emperor until 1530, and a test run as non hre Dutch special government.
      Emperor did perform far better, have in 1530 a fleet with 140 ships (all in forcelimit), and a army from 120k (all in forcelimit) as emperor.
      Image austria emperorship, but only in rich. I run 30 tax, 30 production, 140 trade income in 1530.
      And best, I didn't even start Baltic control + russian trade company until now.
      If I aim this, you push easily to 240 forcelimit and 280 trade income.
      And everything backed by your massive manpower and forcelimit as emperor

      @aqvamarek5316 Obviously... that's why the electors voted for Ferninad to become Emperor not Charles the Bold who was actively campaigning for it. The marriage between Maximilian & Mary was already being negotiated when Charles died fighting the French... Germany would have be unified centuries earlier if Mary hadn't fallen off her horse.

    If you don't care about RP, Brabant is probably the better subject to form NL with. NL is not an end-game tag, and Flemish culture is part of the German group, meaning that Brabant can form the NL, and then Germany afterwards. On top of this, Brabant starts with more dev and more provinces.
    In the opening war, if you opt for Brabant, I recommend taking Amsterdam and Den Haag (If AE allows that). I would also recommend keeping France happy (England can go suck eggs though), so you can fight Burgundy again to transfer overlordship using the age ability (or espi ideas) for half cost/half AE.
    Edit: forgot to mention that while Dutch culture is also in the German group, Dutch culture is uniquely prohibited from forming Germany
    Edit 2: It's not Burgundy lads. Forming NL as Burgundy forces you into Dutch culture, which still prohibits you from forming Germany. You have to wait until tech 10, unlike Brabant. You don't have access to the Dutch/Flemish culture unique government reform, the stadtholder monarchy. This is important, because it gives you a parliament which is VERY good for colonisation. Burgundy also doesn't have access to the Dutch trade fleets naval doctrine, AND it doesn't start in the HRE. It's not Burgundy.

    • @sebe2255
      @sebe2255 5 місяців тому +5

      You are right. Brabant is the best choice because they (and Flanders) can form Germany but Dutch culture tags for some reason can’t.
      And you can even still RP it. The Low Countries were part of broader the German cultural sphere in 1444. They wouldn’t split off again until 2 centuries later

      Also brabant specifically can rival small nations like cleves and get a really easy show strength war
      Oh and easy faceting cuz of antwerp
      AND taking flanders boosts antwerp to a l3 centre of trade in the mission when as holland itll only to it to L2, saving you 250 ducats

      Brabant is best option, you can get austria, england, france, castille and denmark to support your indepedence.
      But I choose normally "france, austria", and use my otherer dip slots on brandenburg, saxony and papatine, to become HRE emperor as fast as possible.

    i highly recommend getting England and France as Supporters, as when they are in a war together, the 30 Yearswar event will always result in the english surrendering maine to france. This will strongly weaken france early to midgame because they slow down their expansion and the english will be weak too because of their disaster. This way youll have a much easier time in the lowlands.

    You can take a little more in that first war with Burgundy. There is a mission that lowers AE by 10 if you control 5 provinces in holand and brabant.
    Also, there is a mission later on in the Netherlands mission tree that puts a University in the highest dev province between Denhag and Amsterdam. Then you can also get a university in Denhag via another mission. Thus, if you dev Amsterdam you can get 2 universities early.

    Netherlands is one of my favourite nations to play. There are few nations that let you lean so heavily into playing tall. If you are a WC type of player who tends to blob in their campaigns I'd recommend giving the Netherlands a go and just follow the mission tree, it'll give you a good idea as to why so many players prefer the tall playstyle.

    The Amsterdam Bourse is a stock/trade exchange, bourse meaning really any organised market with securities and contracts. The term bourse comes from both German and French which was related to the Belgian city of Bruges where rich traders (mostly Italians bc Italian trade go brrr) met at Ter Buerse Plaza named after the patrician family Van der Beurse

  • @scdijkens
    @scdijkens 5 місяців тому +5

    Although this is a decent guide and will for sure get you off the ground as the Netherlands there are quite a couple of things I would disagree with if you wish to play more optimally.
    Starting with the independence war, assuming you get France on your side, which is very common. You can actually take Brugge, Gent, Antwerp and Breda all in that one war. Brugge and Gent aren't HRE provinces and are better provinces than Utrecht and Oversticht or any north-eastern Lowlands provinces as this guide recommended as your next conquests. It's another center of trade as well, so all in all far better AE usage. All you need to do is have your diplomats and merchants improve with West german nations throughout the war to like 50-ish opinion, and you'll be safe from any significant coalition, the cost of doing this? Likely a slightly longer war and more war exhaustion, but it is worth. It also sets you up for completing that mission right away. On top of that you can cancel subject for Brabant and give France Nevers, this way you won't have to fight Burgundy again for a long time and France stays your ally.
    From there, another thing I would recommend doing differently is using a war of show strength right after the independence war against some weak rival. As for Utrecht, Gelre and Friesland I would recommend vassalizing them all through war for reduced AE and the emperor not demanding any returning of land, you can have all three and keep them loyal if you took Brugge and Gent.
    Then, I highly recommend using France to fight England and Portugal over Calais as it's another center of trade. Sure, it's not in the Lowlands region, but you will be forgiven that one single transgression, no? Also, a great reason to do this war is so you can take Algarve from portugal, greatly improving your colonial range.
    Finally, for ideas and colonization, I recommend going exploration as your second idea group actually and taking something like innovative first. You'll still be faster on the path of colonization than this guide since you have Algarve for colonial range.
    For your colonization route, I would highly recommend taking the time to get the treaty of tordesillas for the Caribbean, East Coast America, and Canada before moving to West Africa and Asia. You may have to do a quick war against Castille/Portugal to seize colonies in the Caribbean before they get the treaty, but that should be very doable with France on your side and the use of the seize colony buttons on your armies after sieging a colony. The new world is the race that you're in against the other colonizers from the get-go, so if you want presence there, win that race. The race for Asia and West Africa will not start for quite a while so don't stress it, if you only focus on these 3 colonial new world regions you'll still be the first to start the race for West Africa and Asia very likely anyways.
    It's still a decent video from RedHawk, however though. No hate, only love.

      I currently am in a 1590 game where I have developed the crap out of the lowlands, PU'd France, Russia, Great Britain and enough favors with my ally Spain to put my dynasty on their throne. They only managed to colonize La Plata, Mexico and Louisiana, but that trade still ends up in the English Channel. This because I own all other regions of the new world by treaty. I also own all of West Africa, South Africa And Malaya plus Phillipines. Granted, no presence in India yet unlike this guide, but that will be the next focus.

    When getting independence from burgundy, it's better to move your army to the province above your capital and transport it out by sea. For some reason the AI are less likely to siege your capital that way, saving your economy

  • @stesnuash8986
    @stesnuash8986 5 місяців тому +2

    I find that you can easily avoid the initial coalition via making sure you peace out in late December and constantly microing the diplomat that's not in Austria (unless it supports you) to improve with bigger HRE neighbors like Berg, Cologne, Munster, Palatinate, etc to make sure they stay above 0 relations even with above 50 AE. If you're willing to savescum, Careful or at least Silver-Tongue ruler trait will help too.
    Give at least one of the big allies that desire Burgundian land what they ask for, usually France. If you have both Austria and France, give land to both. Burgundy's provinces are fairly good dev thus the AI will be satisfied with only one province. Just make sure to not give away Low Countries provinces to France.
    Priritize taking centers of trade and Flanders' provinces (not HRE) for less AE. You should be able to get 2/3 of Flanders plus Antwetp with no coalition forming. If you have a Careful trait and Austria supports you, whole Flanders.

    • @AGrumpyPanda
      @AGrumpyPanda 5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks to the new missions you can get Antwerp, Breda and all of Flanders, time the peace deal properly and get the -10 AE with all Imperial princes and you'll only have a small coalition, and you can just use that time to go for Show Strength wars against your neighbours.

So I go France and someone else (prefer Austria but either Iberian nation or Denmark is OK). I usually take all of Flanders because Brugge has a bonus to spreading Renaissance. I release Brabant so they aren’t a Burgundy subject and give something to France in the south (far from you) to keep them happy and allied.

    Theoretically the two best nations to form the netherlands as is either Brabant (more dev + antwerp for faceting + better located and can easily pop off a show strength war on cleves and others)

    Dude, what kind of weird peace deal for your independence was that? Its even worse than just casual. You can easily annex whole of Flanders and make Burgundy give up Brabant. Just dont use England for independence, because they wont transfer Flanders provinces, France will do that. You also dont really need to run away after declaring. You can just stand in Amsterdam and have your fleet out, so they have to siege Den Haag and that will cost them so much time, especially when you stack a little fort defense. In my experience your fleet is big enough so that at least Burgundy and their PUs wont attack it, but it also works even when they allied north-german nations who have also a fleet.
    I have to say that i expected more.

    Question to the creators of mods, if they exist here. I'm trying to remove the permanent militarization debuff -0.5 (Militarization of the state or Militarization of the country) through the game directory (files). But I can't do it. I tried through the file 00_static_modifiers.txt and through the file 16_prussian_militarization (government_mechanics folder) Does anyone know how to remove this modifier through files?
