No, it's not a lack of maintenance but the selfish greedy crab in a barrel mentality that must be stopped. Deal with those matters and leave your neighbours alone so that they can thrive. People remember that your taxes paid for that and you want it. The power is in your hands.

@christiangideon7966 This comment shows how ignorant many naija people are. No wonder the country is going down the drain. No common sense to find out why Tinapa project died and even put Crossriver into massive debt. Maybe if you know you will forget about those idiats either shouting 'obidient', 'batify' or 'atikulated' and be fighting tooth and nail for restructuring. It is a shame that Crossriver government that is also crying about Tinapa like you that you are blaming.

This is a good example of misuse of priorities, despite the foresight and ambition. When the government does not provide the enabling environment and the necessities to make a living for its people, like electricity, running water, housing and basic infrastructures, and food . It is difficult for people to appreciate and use such a huge entertainment complex, with no job and empty stomach. To make it more difficult, you have a Nigerian Government and State Governments that do not encourage tourism, then a project like this without good leadership becomes a money drain and can not survive.

  • @uzoejekwumadu7731

I can bet you no federal minister of culture and tourism has visited here in the last 8 years to assess how this resource could be revitalised 😢😢. Cross River State government should privatise and commercialise the enterprise or get serious core investors to run it. This dream is too good to die😢😢

Why would they? Is a federal project? Were they involved in the planning and actualization of this white elephant project? The enabling environment some talk about here is education. Let's fix that first before all these unsustainable projects that have all predictably failed.

Donald Duke had a lofty dream and plan for Calabar. But his successors aborted that dream selfishly. I blame primarily Liyel Imoke for this rot and mess, then the garrulous petty Professor who came after him. It is sad that the succession, continuity and infrastructural sustainability model adooted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State could not be emulated by the governors of Cross River State. What a shame to see how Calabar has stagnated since Akwa Ibom was created out of the State. Now, one can barely compare the beauty of an "abandoned mother" with that of her "progressive well-nourished daughter". Shame to Calabarians.

It wasn’t built at the wrong time. It was just mismanaged by subsequent leaders. At the time it was built, Nigeria’s economy was growing at a fast pace with many sectors coming up. Nollywood had just become the third largest film industry in the world and we were seeing global retail outlets like shoprite, SPAR etc coming in. On the other end, income was on the rise with GSM and internet technologies coming in and empowering millions of Nigerians. The timing was perfect but politics and subsequent leaders just messed it up. Same way everything in Nigeria is on a downward trajectory.

The failure of Tinapa is the result of black man greed!! When Africans build something, they want to make the money back overnight and in billions. When tinapa was busy, drawing people from everywhere, the businesses complained the rent was too high.lnstead of the government to reduce the rent, they would rather the place is abandoned. Even if they give out this place for free, the return, benefits to the state would still be enormous than letting it rundown without activities.Sometimes these investment is not about immediate return on investment but the long term benefits to the state. The people that would be visiting would spend money, buy things, stay in hotels etc.all that is income to the state not just high rent from the place that Africans only think about.Thank you.
