A simple way to lock the turn table is to attach a small arm on the OUTSIDE of the rail on turntable. They will flip over when aligned to track and hold it in place. Essentially it’s an outside joiner bar that hinges on the turntable track
@@MillBrookRailroad Yes, there's always exceptions of course.😆 But things could change. We'll just have to wait for it to come around again on the guitar to find out. 😉
Well. the sun has gone, and back to cloudy dark days, but dry weather nd unseasonably warm for the time of year. We seem to get the best of the weather down here in Cornwall. Regards, Paul, in warm but dark Cornwall.

Aha. Some gear is doing a good job. Lawn mover with bucket, that's new to me. A clear invention. Haha, the turntable is not levelled. This summer it was the situation on one veteran railroad. Guess the job when the heavy end, carrying the motor, gearbox etc, had to be swung "up hill"...... 5 guys were needed, or the excavator! Things usually take more time then planned.....
It turned out nice. It really caught my attention when I saw this in person. It all looks great cleaned up and fully installed. I’m looking forward to it being put in use with the plow and eventually the mogul being turned at each end of the line!
I see you have the same issue getting the lead track to line up horizontally with the turn table. I found that you will have to go anck about a third of the way and raise the lead track so there won’t be such a bump. You can use a couple of garden sliding hasps for locking the TT to the lead track.
On our turntable we have an H shaped piece of iron that slides along the webbing between the rails. We slide it in to turn the table and back out to lock it
Would some nice big rare earth magnets help line up the turntable to the entry tracks? Wouldn't need to contact, just something in the cinder block to help keep it lined up?
Looks really good! now dumb question..will the lead directly opposite the input track go back to the shop track in your house? That would make acessing the shop a bit easier for you. As far as a latch for the turntable, why not a sliding plate fitted into the web of the rails to force the track into alignment on both ends.
I guess I would have replaced the ties, that clearly needed to be replaced. But otherwise, quite interesting to see how much of a process it is to get track installed from scratch. Is it me, or is the turn table a bit high, rather the access track just a bit low?
We may replace all the ties after we make new ones. They should be fine until we get to it this fall or by spring at the latest. The lead track is adjustable, and the current turntable deck won't be with us much longer with all the dry rot it has. The new deck might be a different height. We won't know until we cut the wood and build the new deck.
Hey no harsh words allowed ...The track does not have rotten ties .......Millbrook RAILWAYS has "MILWAUKEE RAILWAYS TYPE TRACK ........(ROTTEN TIES ).....LOL😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

You should name this series "as the table turns" ;)

We've had a mix of unreasonably cold and unreasonably warm these past couple weeks.
Nicely done!
Thank you!

Wait. SUNNY Cornwall? I hope it lasts more than a couple of hours this time. (JK) Enjoy the sunshine before it turns back to sun droplets.
Coming along great
Thank you for the update 😊
Looks like good progress being made.

@@Stefan_Boerjesson The lawn mower with the bucket threw a rod while mowing the lawn. This was the only project it got used on.

Just like a train schedule. It will be there when it gets there.

We have to replace the deck anyway, so we'll make the final height adjustments after the new deck goes on.
A pipe in the ground with a pin to lock the turntable would be a quick simple solution.

It's cool to see your turntable coming back to life! Also like the soviet gulag labour tunes! Job well done, looking forward to pt 3.
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for part 3.
It’s progress so it’s good
Looking like your progress is all down hill from here? lol Thanks for sharing.
We still have a lot of work to do.
Hurry up every chance you get!
Most definitely.
I would add some composite or plastic ties to the block glued down with polyurethane glue.
Curious to see how you're gonna lay out the switch leading to it
@@michaelmasi5220 Stay tuned...
All you need now is the switch and an appropriate-scale roundhouse. :)
The roundhouse will be people sized.

Magnets tend to attract ferrous objects out in the wild. Much simpler to do something mechanical.

Yes, I will have a track go directly across the turntable into the shop in the house. The locking plate between the rails is a good idea.
doing a great job just wondering about the 2 ends of the turn table are they at the same level? slow but steady
progress! on to the next step!
The two ends will be the same level when I'm done.

What diameter wheels are on your diesel/motive power ?
4-3/4" wheels on the 70, 5-1/4" wheels on the one I'm building.
