      1/2( m+ M) (mu/M+m) ² -1/2mu² ( as initial speed of bullet is u which you didn't take) = 1/2Kx(max)²

    1)x=mL/m+M
    2)the muzzle velocity, or the velo with which man jumps off trolley, is wrt to the gun/trolley, convert it wrt ground frame to conserve momentum
    3) explosion concept,the com just after colissson will continue on its proectile path both the pieces should hit the ground at the same time, if one htis before, then it will have a normal force acting on it disrupiting the momentum conservation concept due to no net exetrnal force
    5) Reduce mass concept(m red=m1m2/m1+m2), reduced mass eqn mein u are left with only 1 block with mass reduced mass, and u can apply energy conservation directly without momentum conservation, normal method is to conserve momentum at maximum compression=initial state, and then solve for energy equation

    In this ques I tried a diff approach however it is lengthy but theeke koi ni
    Firstly, i find out the velocity of m/3 mass by applying cons. of momentum (v=3ucosθ)
    max height is u^2sin^2θ/2g , therefore time to reach the ground for m/3 mass is usinθ/g (by t= (2h/g)^1/2)
    now range for m/3 is 3u^2sinθcosθ/g and total range is 4u^2cosθsinθ/g

    Sir why cannot com move in different path other than trajectory, and why are you conserving momentum there is external gravitational field???

      we are conserving momentum just before and just after explosion. During explosion that explosive force is impulsive (very large as compared to mg), thus mg is ignored for that moment.
      And since Vcom remains constant it follows the same path of parabola
