That's fine, you could always get a larger PVC Pipe or if you want slightly larger grip you could get tennis racket grip tape I used this size because it made Twirling it and doing tricks easier

if you like the grip with electrical tape you should try sports tape. you can buy it at dicks or sports authority and it is a little rougher than electrical tape and grips better

for more effect you could glue wire to the tips for more of a tazer look
My Nightstaff weapon splits into two Nightsticks which are made from mild steel. Stronger, sturdier and built to last. Great effort though.
