Really enjoying your Book of the New Sun videos! I've been reading the books for the first time and your release timing has been great, with the video on a particular book coming out shortly after I've finished it myself! It's nice to hear a Christian perspective as well as that aspect tends to get glossed over or misinterpreted. Interesting point about Terminus Est going from a tool of execution to one of protection and defense. It made me think of a small bit that stuck out to me but didn't click until you mentioned it. As Severian is leaving Thrax, he talks about removing the handguard so that it would appear from afar to be a staff rather than a sword. It's interesting as Severian becomes more Christ-like and Terminus Est is re-purposed, that he physically changes it to resemble a staff, which Jesus is often depicted as carrying.
@@iSamwise So I've read everyone from Greg Bear, Aleister Reynolds, Frank Herbert, all the big "sci fi" guys. Just getting into Gene Wolfe, and as a Christian myself I appreciate the early church references and his general cosmology. The heirodules almost remind me of a kind of "saintly" intercession of sorts. Really smart stuff.
@@CYPRNSOUND As a modern writer Reynolds is just amazing. Some of the best world building and character development IMHO. I'm an atheist myself but like how the channel can appeal to everyone and I see nothing but positive feedback.
@@Staylecrate Yes!!! “Pushing Ice” by by AR is in my opinion one of the greatest sci fi books of all time. I wish there was some kind of sequel to that.
@@CYPRNSOUND I haven't read that one yet. In the middle of Banks' Culture right now. it's at the top of the list now. Appreciate the recommendation! Any other hidden gems in that vain? I'd be interested to hear them.
His writing is like the basic training where you run and have to run through tires. You have to really pay attention. He likes to seamlessly move through one situation to another with not much exposition most of the time. The second book I was so confused when he ended the first book and picked it up and in a completely different town and no companions and didn't address what happen til way later. Btw what do you think the city floating in the sky was? A zeppelin? UFO?
@@iSamwise I've read BNS twice and listened to the audiobook of it once. I've been waiting to commit to Urth, I didn't even realize Urth is Earth spelled phonetically until half way through Lictor. I like your videos a lot man. It has the potential to really take off. If you keep on and get some new equipment you'll really take off. I don't know if you have additional people helping with production or not, but that is something that can help. Even having an original opening segment can help set you apart. Like I said, personally I think your channel has a great deal of potential. Not that it's not good already.
There are so many Internet voices that have been harping (in a good way) about this book. Please let me live in the timeline in which all the top Wolfe content creators collaborate. You're giving a prescriptive on these books that no one else does (at least this deeply). And I'm more than certain that- to be analyzed even remotely- this book needs multiple perspectives.
@@OrlandoOrtiz570 Thank you! Well there may be something of that ilk coming soon. The channel Talking Story is hosting a series of read along conversations on the series next year that will involve myself, author Christopher Ruocchio and Philip Chase and Jimmy from the Fantasy Nuttwork. I’m very excited for the conversation

Very excellent observation. I didn’t even put it that literally together. The sword becomes a staff. From executioner figure to prophetic figure.
That's so freaking awesome!
Really like your content on Gene Wolf, and you’re putting me on to some other authors as well
Thank you very much! So glad to have you. What else besides Wolfe do you like reading?
