Love the format of this video!! It's great to see some "informational" content on your channel, on top of the "riding" videos. Job well done! Keep them coming.
Finally was wondering when you were going to put this up Jamie! Cant wait for the gear overview!
What I like most about this video is the recommendations are kept to what is minimum needs. Other guys just recommend so much stuff and then they become a moving company with all the crap they carry.
Great video Jamie!! Thanks for sharing, definitely answered some of my questions.
Very good, nice and concise, but covered all of the essentials, thanks, and sharing on my pages.
Been scouring youtube for ideas for my upcoming trip. Solid video and simple enough, thanks bud!
Jamie, great vid. You should consider doing more of these. ✌️
Excellent video guys, I hope to see more like this in the future!!
Thanks Jamie. Very useful. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the tips dude! Been looking for some simple ADV advice on what to carry :)
Nice and concise,as well as good advice....Been riding almost 40 years and moto camping for well over 20.... this would have been very helpful to me in those early days....Ride to camp, Camp to ride....
Right now I am in Florida so I skip the warm clothing but thanks for the Ideas like JB weld and 2 person tent is a good Idea. Otherwise I try to travel as light as possible. Also the tire fix kit is something I start carrying. Nice wideo I enjoy them all!!!!!!!
I love this, it's funny though because I'm so use to seeing videos where the youtuber or the channel does not provide this kind of information. So what I've been doing with all your videos is watching them and pausing at all the times I see gear you got so I know what kind of adventure gear it is. But this is awesome, thanks Jamie.
Also, you should make a video what the best motorcycles to go on long cross country trips on. Triumph, Ducati, HD, Yamaha, etc... To the styles, Vintage, Sport, Cruiser, Sportster... etc..
Anyways great video Jamie!
Nice and neat. Appreciate your tips, sir.
I've found wearing a 'base layer', pants and separate long sleeve top works really well...get one made from 100% merino wool. The artificial or mix of synthetic fibre ones are cheaper but definitely not better! Thanks for posting another really useful video too...
Two years later, we're still waiting for the adventure gears video XD. It's the most clever way to push people to subscribe hahaha, well done !!
thanks dude, quality production as always. when are you going to make a behind the scenes video? and some camera equipment guide.
You guys rock! Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for watching and sharng szlaeyer22 , we couldn't do it without you. High 5! :)
Nice video Motogeo. Jamie, I still have a Performance Bikes magazine from the very early 90s with you helping in a 250 two stroke test when you were just a pup! Seem to remember you hating the KR1S and liking the NSR. Good to see you're still involved in bikes fella.
Cheers, from a cold Lincolnshire.
Wow, I remember that! Lots if fun rippin' around that French track. Where was it again? I love Lincolnshire, home of the one and only Cadwell Park. WoooHooo!
Great advice and friendly video.
0:24 haha I know exactly what your talking about Jamie, I did the same thing you said I bought the lightest smallest sleeping bag I could find and FROZE my ass off on those cold nights, in the process of upgrading, I've managed to barely get by with the small one with a blanket and liners. I'm getting a 5F bag now.
Great video Jamie, I carry pretty much everything you mentioned and probably more haha, I always bring too much junk with me and its a pain to ride the rough stuff with it and pick up you bike when its taking a nap, but its good to have it when your in the middle of nowhere.
I put most of my camping gear in my wolfman duffel bag.
I made a deal with the devil and allowed them to make a new page just to leave a comment here. I love your channel, your enthusiasm and knowledge is the best reflection on motorcycling on UA-cam. Keep making these videos!
Thanks aluisious (y)
Also take a look at "Adventure Motorcycling Handbook" by Chris Scott if you need a little nudge in the right direction. Don't forget to pack the t.p. and first aid kit :)
Thanks for your film
Great video! To eliminate the need for the extra face shield I have started buying helmets with the built in smoked visor for those bright days. With the flick of a switch you go from clear to smoked! No more digging to find the extra face shield.
I just use sunglasses. lol
As a bonus, they work without a helmet too. ;)
Good to know good to go thanks mate
I thought most modern helmets had built in sun visor. Always thought it was a hazzle to stop and change visor.
Good tips, much appreciated
Hey, Jamie! When will we see the follow-on to:
What to Pack for a Motorcycle Adventure Trip - MotoGeo Review
Mar 12, 2015
Hope it's soon! Thanks for all the vids!
Great advice very good tips
Thumbs up
Really really nice review and like others have pointed out, keeping it simple. That is in the end what adventuring is about, the simple life, exploring without really knowing what to expect. Improv on the go.
My own experience also tells me that one of the biggest tips is to cut down on gear amount. Multi tools that serve more than one purpose can really get you going for a long time while saving both space and weight. Clothing is also very overrated unless you expect to attend to gala parties every night :D If you can make food and drink, and have a nice and warm place to sleep, then you are basically good to go. Ofc with motorcycles being able to repair your bike is great if you do serious off-roading, but really, the basics are where it is at. Awesome vid, subscribed!
Careful with that JetBoil in windy situations! I loved mine up until I melted the plastic ring around the burner by accident! I picked up a lightweight aluminum one from REI. Twice the price I think but I can't cock it up at least.
Great tips on packing smart, thanks!
Nice video!, unfortunately we dont get many of those here in Argentina...
That's a good tip about the dark and light visor. I'm embarrassed to admit the number of times I've been caught out at night time with a tinted visor only. scary stuff in the middle of nowhere.
Absolutely Likhi Ondov , I hate to admit it but yes, I have also been caught out, please everyone, don't ride at night with a Dark Visor, esp if there is no street lights. Sunglasses are a good alternative but I personally prefer the whole visor.
Puncture repair kit is a must for me.
Best tip here. "Don't be a cheapskate". Buy quality products.
Agree, thanks Livin' Rob
Livin' Rob mùhu
So true,quality will last.
buy once. cry once
Cycle Gear in the states has some great layer clothing at great prices.
Bring a large can of Wet Ones and butt wipes along with TP.
I can't find the follow up video. Was it ever made?
Good gear, but I always take the tent out of the bag and fold it to fit whatever I'm putting it in. Works better that way for backpacking or motorcycling. Like you said, go to the camping store and let them help you.
Excellent video MotoGeo! What kind of REI sleeping bag are you using? Thanks!
As far as the helmet visor goes, I have a modular helmet with a built in tinted visor. When it gets dark out, you just flip it up into the helmet. No need to switch visors.
solid, id probably ditch the tent for a bivy to keep things even more compact but solid list. I hate seeing these bikes packed to the gills with bullshit. if you've ever been into backpacking you know what I'm talking about. I want all my gear in one soft case about the size of a small backpacking pack. with extra room for food.
how about a one man tent like ones that you can connect to your ride for weekend trips?
hey Jamie what do you think is the most versatile and your favorite moto.
Hi SuperVideo Thanks, what are there for possibilities Rei products to deliver to Germany. Greetings Marc
Great point about two visors. At a push, I keep a cheap pair of 3M safety specs under my seat in case I get caught at dusk (or riding to work at dawn). The arms are bendy enough that they squeeze through the side of the helmet no problem. $5 at home depot. Bob's your uncle!
N
Just looking at this makes me want to go out and go for a trip...
California looks so nice!
Bad thing I'm living in northern Germany..:/
If you ever come round here, let me know!!! ;)
Yes ColorsOfMayhem - Motorcycle Videos I would like to ride in Germany. You have some beautiful roads and racetracks. California is fun, you'd love the roads and climate here. Ride free.
wonder how you pack everything on your sportie
When is the adventure gear video being uploaded please!?
You never did the adventure gear video. Are you going to put that video out?
And make a deal with the Mrs to text some skin flix while on the road! I'll never forget when Ewan and Charlie on their long way around doco pulled out of their panniers a large steel hammer just to belt their tent pegs in with! Most good tents these days don't need tent pegs. Those guys suffered lol. It takes experience tho great vid 10/10..
Great video. What's the bike?
Nice video, thanks for sharing! Just wondering about the 2-visor thing. If you bring sunglasses then you just need the clear visor, no?
+Nik Zurin All depends on preference, I personally hate wearing glasses, esp under a helmet and enjoy the full visor clarity. Each to their own.
Piss that tinted visor off out of it, a pair of sunglasses will work just as well and be useful around camp/town/not on bike.
i want to know how much did you have with you on the Ducati scrambler :) im about to get one :)
Sleeping mat, Poncho, and a woobie is all I need...
Perfect!
What about the adventure gear video?
yep, keep it simple!
So..how long was it,before that bungie cord hook ripped a hole in your air mattress?
Air bags and sleeping bags, what’s the Difference?
I too bought a summer weight bag. I too regretted it with every fiber of my frozen being...
Number on sleeping bag is often bullshit. But most sleeping bags are tested by iso/en and this numbers are accurate. You just need to look at right one. There are two important one lower limit of comfort and higher limit of comfort. Lower limit is not really comfortable temperature but you will not wake up middle of night. There are small and lightweight sleeping bags but you need to know what look for.
Carrying 2 shields is obsolete, those transitions shields are worth every penny. Not cheap at 120 bucks but mine is 2 yrs old and looking/working fine. I have a Bell Star helmet.
Jamie,
Great video, but how on earth to do you get your sleeping bag, tent, and pad to fit in any of the kriega stuff? I have the identical gear you do and I can't ever get it all to fit in my kriega r20 and r10 setup.
He was packing his in a Kriega US10 not an r10. Look at time 0:43
Hi MC_Jones I have all the US range, my favorite is the US-30, I can fit all my camping gear inc tent in that one.
The US 20 by Kriega USA is also awesome as you can also use this as a tankbag :) There are many ways to attached the Kriega bag range, suits all bikes. For the backpacks, I've used them all, loved them all, nuff' said.
The only thing I would add, is MREs. For two nights or less just super easy. Some rides take us by town. Stop in for a sandwich to go. Other then that, Right on. Lets ride..
What about the adventure gear?!
Cool t-shirt...and what, no motogeo hat!! 😋
Thanks!!! :D
I love motogeo🇵🇭
How about a motorcycle first aid kit?
Bought a jetboil after seeing it here. Yep, its pretty damn awesome.
+Mike R Yes it is! :)
Interesting ...
Every time we are more slaves in the very professional things... "me too"
Where was the time:
Be free, just a bike with a sunset to live on the horizon
Best regards
Medel
Why are there no BMW motorcycle trips?
Sunglasses are good for bright days and they bring style to the ride ;-D
please visit indonesia :) add list for next adventure
That tent is not very good though. If it rains when you set it up it will be soaked before you can throw the fly on top, not nice to sleep in a puddle. A Hilleberg, or similar construction , sets up with both inner and fly at once and will be dry even in the nastiest of weathers.
NPGANDERSSON I'd take looking at the stars as I go to sleep over any other form of adventure sleeping arrangement. The fly is great, but I also have a winter style tent for those rainy seasons which goes up without a fly. The tent I show me in was with a fly net, the tent I show dismantled was the rain version. Both are great are up and down in minutes.
Nice
Jamie, just one more thing....don't forget the Wet Wipes :)
A tyre repair kit can also save you. I think that is the first thing you should pack in your tool bag.
Stephanus Smith yes, I had a tire plug kit in with my tools, you can see them in the pack but I forgot to mention how handy they are. Good one Stephanus Smith Thanks for the mention! :)
nice
If you go on a trip for more than 10 days how on earth do you store your filming and photos? I always take my computer so I can empty my SD cards... Any different ideas?
I wish a phone could host a portable hard drive... that would be cool. You could simply use it to dump stuff from the micro SD onto the drive.
I take a laptop, cameras, batteries, charger, cables, and a small portable HD. We dump everything each evening and charge where we can. If we are camping, charging is done at lunchtime :) I try and take as little as possible, I can ride and work better with less weight and equipment holding us down.
MotoGeo I take it there's just you and one camera guy? Definitely quicker to get good, high value shots if the camera guy can zip ahead and shoot you going by.
Mine are typically just - GoPro on a fence post or tank bag - shots :)
what's the white adv bike at 1:32 and 1:52?
superwout looks like the Aprilia Capanord.
pro tip: keep your spare visors in an old sock to prevent them from scratches.
Jamie, best bikes to look at for around a grand? Looking for something to teach someone on and have them ride the summer..... I've never bought older used bikes....
The 83-85 Nighthawk 650 is an exceptionally reliable and low maintenance bike if you can find one that has been maintained. I bought one for a grand and rode it long distance for years. It has shaft drive, hydraulic valve lash adjusters (no adjusting valves), and it's air cooled.
drienkm something like that would be great, I was going to mention the GS500, they have a very long production run and since they're still sold in shops you should be able to get parts anywhere.
Shaun Young Appreciate the info, I will start hunting!
drienkm I found a CB125S, which might make a good cruiser around town to learn on? She has no desire for the highway right now anyways...
Then yeah! If its around town, smaller is better. I tell people that a smaller bike will build the initial skills quicker because they are so much less intimidating, not just physically, but also in terms of the low cost of damage. Small engines also require you to really get the hang of shifting, and even that is made easier by the light clutch.
As long as you are prepared to do some tinkering to it (it's a 70's bike, right?) sound like a winner.
don't forget a headlamp flashlight!
Ha, that's useful but you can always use the bike's headlight if you set up quickly and get that fire started :)
Buy a helmet with sunvisor built in ;-)
Having a Ural allows you to take luxury items like tea, coffee, and toilet paper. :-p
Don't forget the cb500x review 😛
The 2019 version.
Can't fault you, chief!
Take your ct- card....and off you go !!!!
*cough*cough*
Nice Sponsor Plugs...
*cough*cough*
~jjokes !!!
Well Done & Thx !!!
show.
Don't forget baby wipes!
I'm sorry, what to pack for a motorcycle adventure: v2 sponge?
And no mention of a puncture repair kit??
Ha!
A spare visor.........
Get a helmet with a sunscreen BUILT IN and carry a cleaning cloth in your jacket. East as that
Good enough video but if you are watching it and you've learned anything from it, there's no way you're even allowed to take the bus without your mom.. so step away from the motorcycle sir!!
you´ll need a SUV to carry all of this
what do you take with you?
LOL u obviously don't know how to pack then
justa crlon money for the hotel. ahahaha
No, you don't....
Nah EletroBoy TV A good backpack and bag for the bike and you are ready to roll. A tank-bag is also an easy addition.
Um, "Don't be a cheapskate. Spend 3x the price of your motorcycle for gear as shown here."
just a heads up rei donates millions to keep your bike out of the woods, they're selling you crap with one hand and stabbing you in the back with the other....
