Game Overs in the SMT series are much more intricate than most games and are often a key mechanic or plot point so I wanted to put them together alongside a few bonus games that are technically not SMT but are still in the same spirit. It's fascinating to see how it evolved over the years, the SMT2 game over theme returning, how Charon is a consistent character except for some games where the stakes are much bigger than just crossing over the river Styx. SMT4 seemed to have started the trend of reviving you for a fee but Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei had it (don't know if Megami Tensei 1 or 2 on the Famicom did) and "SMT If..." revived you free of charge.
If it seems I linger on too long in a game over screen, it's because I find the music interesting to listen fully. The PS1 version of SMT2 has a spooky arrangement that I find fascinating for example. You can just skip if you feel it's too long. That's why I put timestamps in place.
Please don't judge me about my gameplay because the goal was obviously to die as quickly as possible. I've played and finished most of these games already. If I ever feel like it I'd like to do the same for Persona.
The footage was all taken by me at 1440p and overall the highest quality I could make. You're free to use the footage as long as you credit me. - Ігри
Most SMT Charons: Welcome and do not be afraid. There is peace here.
SMT4 Charon: Bruh, don't make me work. Wanna make a deal?
You don't want to? What a pain in the ass you are.
i guess im asking randomly but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my login password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Ryan Willie Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Ryan Willie it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass :D
@Callum Emery Glad I could help :)

@@LollipopWNoChainsaw lmao
@@AsakuraEX No, Curse was a moniker attached to several moves in games such as P1. P5 brought little new to the table, intentionally. It instead brought back a ton of great things from previous Megaten games.
Charon comes for all the mainline protagonists except or the Demi-Fiend. It's like all the forces wanted him to stay dead, except for Lucifer. Makes me feel like the dude is more cursed than he knew lol
I mean did you SEE that ending, those angels kind of indicate to me at least that God's not happy with you dying like that and has simply had his flock wait around for you to die so he can snag your soul to do even worse things then what his curse is doing to Aleph! Initially because your a demon now, failing him if you die before a reason is set, and in the case of True Neutral and True Demon outright defying him! But yeah the fact he's got his flock on your ass from the start of the game ready to snag you upon death for various reasons just shows Demi-Fiend as the unluckiest of the Messiah (The strongest for sure, but damn am I thinking his Luck stat is canon-wise the lowest LOL)
It seems like it's tied to the world and nature. SMT1 2 and 4 take place while the world is alive and Charon is part of the system of death and rebirth, while 3 and 5 is in the Vortex world/Da'at which doesn't conform to the real world, so I think the same occurs with the dying process, instead of the natural process of Charon taking you across the river to await your next reincarnation, 3 and 5 swiftly takes them away from the current world, either by angels of the great will or absorbed into the tree of knowledge
@@paulman34340 there's nothing really deep about that he just doesn't go to Charon like the human protagonist's do
@@ofilosofoouumfumante5655 I say unlucky in that everyone else get's Charon! But he, he gets a one way ticket to Gold Dome if he dies (Of course deaths/game over are non-canon, but still). The unlucky Messiah is a tie between the one who was one by ACCIDENT (SMT 1) and the one who never was suppose to exist in the first place (SMT 2) seeing how things ended for them
It's only a difference in cosmology, since the games are fundamentally different in universe.
Damn, for some reason, SMT I theme give me chills and some sort of relax
The most terrible ones are the Raidou Kuzunoha one because... bruh being shameful to your ancestor... and the Strange Journey Redux for me since in this one you almost can feel the pain of the death with those distortion sounds and images, and the despair because the world is consumed by the schwarzwelt. My favorite ones are the Digital Devil Saga one because it takes a part of the Upanishads, sacred scriptures of hinduism. And the IV one because is kinda hilarious. Charon could be a pal of mine.
The world is consumed by the what
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 the Schwarzwelt, the black world in german
I see what you mean with the strange journey screen. Kinda reminds me of the Chrono Trigger game over screen.
Strange journey is the best one, because it actually shows what consequences your death has.
And so the earth was shrouded in darkness forevermore.
I mean, spoiler alert, but the first DDS game over also does if you know what the story of the game is.

Are we not going to talk about how surreal and unsettling the devil summoner 1 game over screen is
The PSX versions of SMT 1-2 look really nice imo.
Did you have to disrespect my boys like that by killing them in easy battles?
I love SMT4 charon, dude just gives you a chance or reviving for a bribe, but in reality he just doesn't want to bother doing the paperwork.

SM2's PS1 game over looks so pretty!
I read on the wiki that Kinap's messages for the game over screen change as the game progresses in devil summoner soul hackers. Was hoping to find it on UA-cam as I haven't played it but your video is the main place I have seen game overs posted in vid.
Was interesting to see the ones I haven't played though, thanks for posting
Great video! Though Soul Hackers should be in English, it's translated on the 3DS.
But man, that Raidou game over is brutal. Imagine being born into a family who has to hunt demons, not doing well and then all your predecessors shame you before you die.
They're not exactly "Devil Hunters", they're "Devil Summoners". It just so happens that in their charge to defend Japan, they end up hunting down a bunch of demons doing bad shit.

How did you die ?

Thank you, i needed to see the game over from Shin Megami Tensei IV apocalypse
Great video but you are missing Shin Megami Tensei: NINE and Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine

Mannn, you deserve more subs, keep up the good work :D
How sound like a bo....*ha ha* I can't even finish that.
SMT V has the best one
I prefer Nocturne's, more creepy in my opinion
I was disappointed by how ultimately boring it is compared to so many of the Megaten games I had played prior to SMT V. DeSu 1 for example, is my second favorite to DDS.

Kyuuyaku is so sad for some reason
The music and Charon willing to revive you for half of your money, but if you say no you go to heaven. Sad...
1 and 4A are my favorites
Imagine the realization after finding out in your next life that you got killed by a fairy.
What’s more fucked up is we the players keep harming them even killing them as the game over screens tells us that they’re getting reincarnated every time as we chose no for the deal and it goes back to the title screen
They're not characters anyway, they'll deal with it.

This is shin Megami tensei game overs this is Megami tensei cause it includes Raidou and DDS, odd thing is why it doesn’t include persona
I think it's because it shed off the SMT name, hence it's exclusion! Yeah that only really applies to P4 Golden, Both Q & Q2, and P5 & P5 Royal. But still counts I guess!
@@paulman34340 all spin-offs have shed their name
@@paulman34340 Majin tensei never had a sub title, Devil Survivor never had smt in the title only in the west, Persona never had smt in the title only the west, Tokyo mirage sessions doesn’t have smt in the title, devil summoner stopped having the subtitle since soul hackers, last bible never had the subtitle
@@paulman34340 digital devil saga never had the subtitle only in the west, Atlus west added the subtitle to these games, the full name of Persona is megami Ibunroku Persona, and it hasn’t had that subtitle since Persona 2, soul hackers got rid of the smt subtitle that was on the first game, that’s what atlus does, the first game indicates it’s a spin-off, second game they remove the subtitle
@@sociallyawkard5675 Just cause they don't have the SMT sub doesn't mean their not a SMT game. Yeah I get that! But who knows, maybe it's cause Persona is pretty distant from a LARGE amount of the troupes associated with the rest of the SMT series (Devil Summoner and DDS still feel like SMT main lines with how they are in atmosphere and tone. While Persona did start with SMT tropes, but started making it's own tropes till they distant themselves from SMT by 3 that I've always wondered if it's even connected to 1 and 2 beyond references! I use 3 to assure that as they make it clear that "yes they still are", but the old games made clear Demon Summoners and Demon Summons in general still did exist in the world as Persona spin off from SMT IF.....you know what, the more I talk about IF, the more I become confused as I read the manga which ties to heavily to FUCKING SMT 1)
Maybe Persona has it's own death compilation! (I mean P5's game overs are different based on where you are in the narrative when you died!) as these's SMT always have the same game over's no matter where you are in the story or what you died to! (4 being different in that you can volunteer Game Over yourself....or be unable to pay Charon. But that's about it. Even SMT 5 has the same Game Over no matter what killed you)
12:23 Who's this broken phone? I see an android phone i can't believe I laugh so hard, so annoying xD the grave is a android phone Best game over ever 😂😂
Some games like to show just the image of a broken, now abandoned belonging of the protagonist as they stopped being able to give it any use. I think it works if you dont want to show a body.
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 Makes sense, as it's Dagda that allows it to function anymore, if I remember straight it was damaged when you were first killed and repaired along with you when you made your contract with Dagda! So with him abandoning you to your fate by your choice or well "that dungeon" it no longer can function and returns to the state it was in previously
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 At 12:24 That somebody's cellphone has been destroyed and now it says "Game over." It looks like somebody just drop it or either stomp or step on it. Or even worse they would begin to crush or smash it with something.
