Bummer, i rewatched it. Well if everything else fails: Loctite Professional Liquid Super Glue - but ensure you set the backspacing / infinity focus right before applying the glue :D
Man when you first showed me the finished lens i thought it was a pretty straight forward, simple polish... This was a lot of work! Well worth it looks perfect now bro.
Hey bro, good to see you. Yes definitely worth the work...the lens is gorgeous. I've managed to mount it to m43 but need help for EF as I can't find the correct info.
@@LouisLuzuka hey the original is is m42 but this one is different. It has the locking tabs like an ef mount (those 3 tabs what most modern lenses have. It's very weird but I'm sure it's the same as the early Zeiss Biotar 🤔
You're meant for the film industry, your passion shines through, little projects like this proves it. 🙌 Looking forward to seeing some footage from this lens.
I'm recently bidding on a Canon FD F4 17mm, just to practice on opening it up and "repairing it. It's selling for parts only but I figure for $30 it's not so bad.
Thank you, it was you who educated me on this 😁 There was another cheap normal version on eBay but it had fungus and I couldn't be bothered. This one took a bit of figuring out the mount but it works flawlessly on my m43 cams.
Thanks Fred. I was thinking about dismantling but I thought I'd only do it if there's serious dust but there wasn't any more than usual. I do agree that it would have been best to dismantle though 👌🏾
Hi, yes I was able to mount it to m43 using a Minolta mount. It was a bit ghetto but it worked great with infinity focus. Hit me up on Instagram if you need to know how. I don't think I have any pics left but I can guide you
Thank you. I'm not sure of the material the Helios is made from but if it's some sort of aluminium you may be better off with a product called BIRCHWOOD ALUMINIUM BLACK. It only works on aluminium though so please check the metal on lens.
I am so amazed how well your restauration came out!!! I understand, that this is possible on flat surfaces but even watching you in your superb video I don't get, how you got into all those corners, reafs, notches and angles (sorry, I don't really kow the exact term here). Greetings from Germany :-)
Ahhh thank you so much, I'm glad you like it. At certain points in the video you see me folding the sandpaper into a sharp edge. I had to get a sharp edge to get inside those pieces whilst protecting the numbers. It was a good experience and I want to do some more 😁
Thanks man. I used about p100 for the deep scratches and then p150 to smooth it out. You can then use a p200 for final or go straight to polish. If going fine like p200 I'd put a dab of water just to stop any fine particles going under the ring. This really should be taken apart but in my case it worked well.
If anyone knows the mount I need to convert to EF I'd be grateful. I've converted to m43 with 100% success but I need this to be EF
Afai remember. M39 to M42 step up ring + M42 to EOS EF
@@rickylefleur2158 I don't think that's it bro. This mount looks like an m43/ef mount with the 3 tabs...it's just smaller.
Not a screw mount 😔

@@rickylefleur2158 yeah it's a bummer. Well I've got it working on 2 out of 4 camera's so it's all good if I can't convert to EF.
@@Altcineit is possible to cut off part of the lensbody
so that the back glass goes inside the ef mount,
I did this with a fl lens,
I got it all
Top work.... labour of love.... only those who are passionate about their craft do things like this....
Yes brother. It took a while but yes it's a passion.

Hey Joel, I did spend time on it but honestly, it was quite easy.

@@LouisLuzuka I've got it working perfectly on micro four thirds so it's all good.
I'll see if anyone chimes in on the ef but not a massive deal.
No masking of optics required? 🙏
+1 for the soundtrack!

Thank you Wilson. It was definitely worth the effort.
much easier if you disassembly lens, you can also clean and lubricate
Wow, you did an amazing job!
