As a cellist, I must say, the harp is such a unique instrument. Its larger than a bass, yet has one of the most beautiful and rich sound of any instrument out there.
Absolutely LOVE this! I remember first seeing it in a physics class when we were learning about vibrations and ever since that moment I have wanted to play the harp! After years of persuading my parents (who probably thought I was joking) to let me play I am now renting a harp, have been playing for just under two years, have just done my grade 3 and am so happy to say I am finally learning this song :D Thank you for this wonderful video and just wanted to let you know you have been a huge inspiration for me and I'm sure for many others too. :)

Watching and listening gave me a happy feeling. Harpists who think "outside the box" are doing us all a favor by breaking the stereotype that harp is for background music as little old ladies sip their tea. Bravo for the spirit shown, the rhythm, and the obvious enthusiasm for music!

scarydot123 I guess I just see the Piano as I do English, that because I've been doing it so long it just seems easier to me. I genuinely believe it takes greater precision to play a harp as not only are the strings way smaller than the keys on a Piano, but they're also aligned in a way that makes them more awkward to judge. I've never played the Harp however, so I could be totally wrong.
+TheDeadlyPianist To be honest, I have played both piano and harp, but i think they require a different mindset. with piano, the keys are bigger and there is the same type of music. I sometimes play piano music with fingerings added in. but with harp, there are more complex things such as cross unders, fingerings, muffles, etc.
I wish my school had a harp. I was originally gonna play one, but they didn't have one so I chose the viola. The viola is still a great instrument, but I love love love the harp.

I've been playing harp for about 3 years now and before I even thought of doing harp, I saw your video and I thought, wow, that is such an amazing arrangement! Owl City is one of my favorite artists of all time (especially since he's from Minnesota, that's where I'm from :D) and I thought that someday I would love to play something like this. Ever since I started, I have been kind of a slacker but seeing this reminds me of how it's such a blessing to play the harp and even have a chance to play something as beautiful as you were able to in this video. :DD So thank you so much for uploading this. It's such a blessing to me.
Never apologize for not using sheet music just because you 'play by ear' as this is truly skill inherent talent to do so as many cannot...I play the piano by ear to create my own music but it can be a 'pickle' to do as you have to memorize them...so I record them to keep a record and also helps out in case I forget the segments...
This was one of the first You-tube videos I ever watched when I got my first smartphone in 2010. It was so beautiful I used to listen to it to go to sleep. Really brings back memories listening to it today. So glad it's still up!

Most schools don't have harps available, because harps like the one here will set you back $20k plus.
