I, too, was in the Kop that day. Football was so good those days with no whining, no diving, no appealing to ref for false claims and no VAR which will surely destroy what is left of the great game, if left to its present form. 50 years ago! Where has the time gone? MOT to be Champions again!
Huw Bert thing the overhead kick by bremner was 68/69 season the season we won the title some of the dates and games Are mixed up on you tube.i was at both games.they had moved the pitch back to the kop end by 69/70.
Does anyone know why theres a big gap behind one of the goals during the 60's and early 70!s , then it didappears around '73 ?...Did they rebuild the stand or extend the pitch or both ?
First they built a new stand at one end cantilevered out over the property next door, and leaving a space in front of the stand behind the goal. Then they built a new larger stand at the other end, replacing the old Scratching Shed and moved the pitch accordingly. I've always presumed it was called the Scratching Shed because it looked to be a standard Dutch Barn.

Busby's resignation in 1969 had a lot to do with it, as well as the poor choice of successors. Personally I believe that if Brian Clough had been appointed manager, United would have continued to dominate throughout the seventies.
😂 Think people are being harsh, giving Sprake stick for not stopping Best's goal, it was an absolute screamer, and he struck it early... (first time I've ever seen that Bremner goal, what a strike!)...
Everton were the forgotten team of the 60s, they very good and won a lot, but with Leeds, Chelsea Man Utd grabbing all the headlines, mainly for exciting matches, you can understand why!
Best's first goal looked like another Sprake mistake !! I know people said he did play blinders , but how many trophies did his gaffes cost Leeds ? Definitely the 1970 FA Cup when he let in that daisy cutter ; that Crystal Palace goal is still hilarious as is his throw into his own net at Anfield,... Revie was maybe too loyal to his team ; by 1974 they needed a lot of new faces. Amazing though that that team's players from the Leeds glory years all played for over a decade or close to.
Leeds spent all their money on Clarke and Jones and building a new stadium, but Sprake did win games i saw them. that's why they kept him. Checkout Leeds first goal in that final with Chelsea, a farce by the defenders, yet neither got blamed for it?? Leeds played too many games in march April 1970 because Alf Ramsey wanted a shorter season for England in Mexico! But hell nobody could keep their eyes off them, even my dad who hated football watched that final!
Infrasleep@ bests first goal was class. He just took gary sprake by suprise as he volleyed it instead of letting it bounce then score. And at the speed it came to best at 90mph and so up close. Not many keepers would have saved that, becouse they wouldnt have expected best to just hit it on the volley and coming across best very fast. Best had remarkable speed of thought. It was a great goal, george just made it look easy. Most players would have missesd the ball altogether or hit it wide! Bremners goal was a cracker too. But he could try that another 50 times and never score or even near it. Leeds were the dirtiest team in the leauge back then by far. Even chelsea had to sort them out a few times when they beat leeds in the 3rd play off in the FA cup final in 1970. Chelsea beat them 1-0 a think, or 2-0 nil. It was a great game when they were allowed to play great football, but leeds started getting really dirty as chelsea were the better and harder team that day, and it got worse. But chelsea saw it through and gave as good as they got, maybe even harder! It was meant to have been the dirtiest game ever seen on tv. Thats how bad it got. Chelsea were hard but i never rated them as a dirty team. But leeds lol
@@alanmctavish4802 So many factual errors. There was one replay (not 3) of the 1970 FA Cup final. First match was 2-2, and the replay was 2-1. The 'dirty Leeds' tag is a lazy cliché and not actually true. They were no dirtier than Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or most other teams. After watching that excuse of a performance against Crystal Palace you just have to watch that goal by George Best and the world seems to be a better place.
