Pics and portraits keeping us hydrated until the film drops. Like always I appreciate your work and use retrofuturism as white noise for sleep. I think my mom watched the Worlds Fair series, I’ll need to check her history when I visit her house
"Where Will You Hide" was pretty powerful in it's reality based message and that was in 1948. I doubt many "Americans" took it to heart and laughed if off as scare tactics which is a shame. I remember reading an old Sci-Fi story, the author of which I can't remember where scientists were using very high speed film cameras to study the first few micro-seconds of atomic bomb test explosions and they were shocked to see for a very short period, the image of the Devil formed inside it. The genie in the bottle was set loose and how do we get it back inside? The fallout shelter trend was a sad attempt to build up hopes when in fact you wouldn't want to survive to see your former world turned to dust and hardship. Pleasant dreams all.
And are we farther away from those cold war fears of annihilation, or are we closer? Seems we're less optimistic about humanity's survival for one thing.
In anticipation of our invasion of mainland Japan, the US military ordered half a million Purple Heart medals. Almost 80 years later, after Korea, Viet Nam, the Persian Gulf, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq, and all other minor conflicts, we still have 75k of those medals left over.
I was about to say that I find it so strange that films about nuclear war and stuff's labeled as 'sleepcore', then I remembered I'm the one who listens to movies like Trinity and Beyond and The Atomic Cafe to fall asleep to. :D
I love the archive videos that you upload but could you please add dates of release before each clip? That would help many of us be put into context of time.
You changed your name. I went looking for you and your current name popped up pics and portraits. I got really mad because I thought somebody was ripping off your content. 😂
The heavens declare the glory of the Bomb, and the firmament showeth Its handiwork. Glory be to the Bomb, and to the Holy Fallout. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end. May the Blessings of the Bomb Almighty, and the Fellowship of the Holy Fallout, descend upon us all. This day and forever more. Amen.
"Be a globalist or suffer nuclear war" sounds about right. I for one understand that there are things worth fighting and dying for, be it in nuclear war or not.
Without the atomic bomb on the part of the Americans, the war and Japan would not have been brought to the conclusion of hostilities. Exactly the same thing should happen today but this time on the territory of the United States. Maybe they would stop sowing discord and wars around the world.
Barbie is a much more powerful commentary on modern society than Oppenheimer is. What other force could make half the population go out and purchase hot pink outfits for one event?

This channel is, without a doubt, the peak of UA-cams usefulness. Thank you.
This is awesome. I love the happy 1950s music in the background while describing death and destruction. Our government is full of sociopaths!
One of my favorite channels, you've grown so much! We appreciate your hard work.
I appreciate the interest!
Reminds me of the years after 9-11. Paranoia and suspicion everywhere. That was over 20 years ago now. God I feel old.
Paranoia and suspicion are the result of ignorance/being kept in the dark.
love the old school film strips.
You should make a video with just the film strips. That intermittent beep is very nostalgic.
If I had the equipment I'd be tempted to take a modern educational UA-cam video and make it into an actual filmstrip just for the hell of it.
That woman narrating is supposed to be calming but it also sounds creepy at the same time.
Loving it. Thank you, picsandportraits!
Operation Cue was peak creepy for domestic testing. Love it, thanks for this.
I love this stuff, thanks for all the work!
It's insane we had so much insight back then and have squandered it all within about 100 years.
Consequence of the World Wars passing out of living memory, I think

I think I read that same story. It sounds familiar.
We let The Atomic Genie out of the proverbial bottle…And boy were we scared when we couldn’t put it back in
Sleepcore. Television for existential night terrors.

"Where you Hide" is well written and well produced. I'm surprised such a short was done in 1948.
Also: Jim Backus!
I'm here for the BEEP...
Some things never change. Woe be to us.
Noble ideas and ethics as entertainment!
Interesting timing of video.

I love you, Sleepcore.

Can't hide when you're always seen
So many people hide behind American exceptionalism.
Chilling ending. Great episode.
80 years later same story ...
You watching a sleepcore... Plesent dreams.
Thurston Howell the Third is right...!
Well...alrighty then. I won't get much sleep after watching this.
Wow, if you weren't an insomniac before watching this...
Explains a lot about why people are so obsessed with making their own radios.
Like most everything...

16" of books? So the safest place is a library.
Heard there’s a show coming out about this guy or something.

Who would actually build and stick such bomb fallout shelters?? Jeez!

Spoiler alert: The UN charter DID prevent atomic war.

The music sounds like a Disney movie?
I wish I could make a bomb shelter for $200.
Oppenheimer was a lunatic
To spare us from ourselves
To what goes on now....?
It's kind of ironic 😏
♥🤯

What does that even mean
Wierdo
History won't be kind to the cold war.

America would take everyone with them
Barbies gonna out sell Oppenheimer.
Ha
Nope.
Well, I'm gonna watch Barbie first
