When those lines were run by Public Service of New Jersey[ the old streetcar company],there would have been sweepers out covering and clearing the lines! The irony here,is that if you hauled out an old track map,the tracks now in use follow the old routes! And the PSNJ,had 24 hour service,so the mainlines were never shut down! The bus services,I can imagine were more than upset, but the trams carried on!! Then you wonder why the streetcars, were abandoned in the first place!!?? Thanks for the awesome photography, and having done snow shots, you really had the that cold and snow, down pat!! Thanks again 👍 ☺ 😊 😘 🤗 🙂 👍 ☺ 😊 😘 🤗!
Thank you Timothy for the great trouble you took to film this excellent video. It was good to see that despite the early hour and the terrible weather the trains were carrying a significant number of passengers.
There have been several occations in Stockholm (Sweden) when almost all traffic has been halted due to snow storm, with the exception that the tramways was still run even when some of the subway lines where down due to their power pickups could not reach the live rail because snow piles.
That's sort-of why Boston's Blue Line uses catenary once it gets above ground and close to the water. There was concern of sea spray icing over the third rail in winter
𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨! What an excellent capture of the atmosphere. It appears as if we're watching photo-animation rather than live video. GREAT job, Tim. Possibly your best video. Thanks so much. Keep up the excellent work.
I usually shoot things on point and shoot cameras but this was on Iphone 12 and I have to say, though its zooming is not good everything else on it is splendid for video quality! (didn't want to get camera wet haha)
You may have been miserable making this video, but what an excellent result. The scenes are amazing, and I was surprised how quiet the trains were. Was the snow muffling the track noise, or are they normally that quiet? Whatever, it was great to watch (in the warm comfort of my home, LOL)
As someone who lives with this system, our last snowstorm almost canceled all forms of transportation, so I get why it was miserable, Timothy! We got over 5 inches!
Your dedication to sharing transit videos is greatly appreciated! In the early 20th century US trolley and interurban systems in the midwest had snow sweepers to keep the right-of-way clear during major snowstorms. I wonder if any transit systems have such equipment now.
Newark had a snow sweeper trolley locomotive built in 1910 and it served until the 1970s, but whether it still has it I don't know. Go to,the Newark light rail and go north until 6ou reach the last stop where the light rail barns and yards are and ask.
Thanks Tim for your perseverance filming during a snow storm!! Great shots of a system that operates even during snow. I've not yet experienced riding HBLR but look forward to it!! 😀😀♥️♥️
The good about the hblr is it connects to the PATH, NJ transit, and NY ferry which is very good whenever you need to make a long distance travel the HBLR a connects to the PATH at Exchange place, Newport, and Hoboken which could connect you to all of the different lines while riding the PATH like Newark-WTC (NY) or Hoboken-33rd street (NY) the hblr is a must have if you live in Bayonne, Jersey city, or North Bergen Its link to NJ transit at Hoboken can help you get wherever you need to be in NJ
In peaent day Toronto Canada the streetcars also often run when buses and the above=ground portions of heavy rail subway donts due to 3rail snow fouling. It will be noticed that rail guided trams run at almost normal speeds while busses, if able to run, are slowed to walking speeds to avoid skidding.
@@TrainsFerriesFeet It's nice to hear that someone else wants to move where there is cold and snow when they retire. I never wanted to move to Florida. I lived in Colorado for 24 years. "Filming this Transit was Miserable" but "it was quite fun too" - Hmm, all I can say is you're dedicated! What's the hottest and coldest that you've filmed in?
Hottest? I don't know if it was the hottest but certainly very humid was South East Asia - coldest (sometimes Boston?) hmmmm I will have to think about this one...

PATH (subway between New York and New Jersey) in the snow (filmed in the same morning)

2:41 the snow covering the time monitors for the oncoming trains is just fitting the winter theme and amazing

Surprisingly full even with shortish headways (maybe 10 minutes?)

In my opinion the lengthened HBLR cars are the best looking trains in America and you did them great justice in this video. Great job!
Thank you for filming trams while it is snowing, it adds a cool aesthetic to the whole thing.

Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Great camera work, It’s a little bit magical seeing trams gliding through the snow.

Unlike a lot of US streetcar/light rail systems in my experience this one tends to be very quiet!!
Also snow does in fact have an effect on sound

It's fascinating to see how well the trams cope with snow. Thanks for sharing.
Tim, this video is fantastic especially with the weather conditions.
Perfect! Great video enhanced by nature's snow! Everything looks so majestic. Love the variety shots.
Nice work Timothy , cool shots also you are right by my back yard.. Greetings from West Hudson County, NJ.
great movie, best regards🤝👍
May Have been Super Cold Winter but excellent Video and at least you got something warm to eat and drink 😎
That was deLIGHTful! 🤩
Beautiful 😍
Very nice camera work. Great composition. Could be a cool series, trams, weather.... Thanks!
Great video, thank you for the effort. Hope you have warmed up.
This is awesome; first PATH and now HBLR. I wish I could move now.

I love Essex Street with the train going through.
Very nice!
Excellent!
Trains been out 20+ years and still run perfectly fine
6AM I was on one of those trains...nice video work well done!
Looks so cool! I think due to the snow, NJ Transit was on a modified schedule, like MLK Day.
Very nicely done ✔

Отличное видео!
It looks amazing to me but only because I live in Florida and am craving cold and snow. I can only imagine how bad it was out.
I live in SC and I crave snow, too. It's *one* of the reasons I want to move home to Jersey when I retire.

Not all railfans wear capes!
I'm surprised they even had service. What's more, I even see some passengers.

Thanks Herman for all the support!
does the light three car trains sometimes?
only a 2 train car would fit the current station configurations (one car 3 piece and the other 5 piece)...
1:50 The light rail got a speeding ticket
Some grade crossings need gated signals instead of traffic signals
The train runs on the street in this area how would that work?
Getting the footage was worth braving the weather, I think.
I'm surprised they're operating safely in a snowstorm
No issues with 5” of snow overnight. It’s a benefit of catenary power.
