Hiking To The Most Iconic Mountain In The Australian Alps

Mount Feathertop is the crowning jewel of the Victorian Alps, and perhaps the most iconic mountain within mainland Australia. It certainly stands out among the typical mountain plateaus of the High Country as it's pyramid shaped summit is more akin to mountains seen elsewhere around the world.
In winter Mount Feathertop is one of the best places in the country for beginner mountaineering pursuits, but in the dry seasons the mountain welcomes all kinds of hikers to its summit. The Razorback Track stands as the easiest path to Mt Feathertop. Many make the hike along the southern razorback, but few know that the razorback continues past the summit - we set out to explore this lesser side of the mountain.

The killer was climbing Feathertop again from the north, but without a capable car I wouldn’t have been able to check out that side of the mountain if I didn’t slog it

Not too interested in Champion Spur. In terms of disgusting bush bashes in the area I am interested on trying to climb Fainter South Spur from the West Kiewa River.

No you can’t. There’s 2 good hut camping sites along this track however, at Federation Hut and MUMC Hut.
