Reminds me of one time playing back in the '80s. My Bard, during his Watch, felt the un-controllable urge (failed saving throw vs. Charm) to walk off into the woods. Where, in a small cave by a stream, he encountered Glasya, daughter of Asmodeus, who had one thing on her mind. Long story short. There was a pregnancy ending in a shotgun wedding. Ah! The good ole days!

I’ve been wanting to set up an encounter where a player is preyed upon by a succubus. But now I’m thinking it would be neat for the players to meet a succubus on the path of redemption.
why not do both? have a player get dreams, pleasant at first but slowly over time get worse and worse. (or in their mind better and better.) before or just after the evil succubus manifests to start corrupting them physically, have the party meet with one on its way to redemption who can identify the problem and seek redemption by aiding the party in banishing the evil succubus and its hold on the player. this was the first thought i had while watching Rhexx's video. honestly most of my best story ideas come from the information i learn about these creatures in these videos.
You could also have it be a paladin or priest that is being targeted by the succubus. You could give them a check after the dreams to remember something that was off in the dream, with the difficulty of the check lowering as time goes on (the succubus lowering her guard) that could lead the character to realize what is happening. Now you could have two possible avenues that it could go thru, like one of the succubus attempting to redeem themselves via working against other succubi, or the player bringing the info of what is happening to a temple. The god/goddess might actually push for the priest/paladin to attempt to redeem the succubus attempting to corrupt them, which would mean they would need to find a way of turning her from the path she is on. Defeating a succubus does not always mean their death, the player could subdue her/him too. I have preferred to use a different look for succubi/incubus to that used in many works. I like to use the idea that they kept their angelic wings, but the color changed like becoming a midnight black an purple tipped pair of wings.
A character idea I just remembered is a Aasimar fiend warlock who's dating a succubus (there patron) who's a celestial warlock (there patron is the Aasimar) it would make things more interesting if both are yandere's for each other
I remember when the DM tried to punish my bard by having a barmaid turn out to be a massively overleveled half-goliath succubus queen. She never stood a chance.
As a DM I would make you make a will save to stay chaste (say once a day to start, and start spacing them out more as the redemption progresses) because the succubus is addicted to physical contact.
Leomund's Tiny Hut - "All other creatures and objects are barred from passing through it. Spells and other magical effects can’t extend through the dome or be cast through it." So, yeah, once you're a 5th level caster with access to this "ritual" spell you'll never have to worry about Succubus dream stuff ever again.
You forget that the spell only lasts so long... and sooner or later, you'll be vulnerable. No mortal can resist our temptations for long. Why fight it? Just give in... join our legion~
I mean ...it's kinda up there with living in a garden with nothing to do except lazily frolic about, and look at that one tree in the middle of the garden which says "Do Not Touch", for eternity... and then acting like the result was a big shocker. ;-)
Cant remember what it was in the Planescape campaign setting but, I think they had a similar origin (although the Baatezu versions the Erynis?, were crafted by those weevle pain devils from lesser devils for the job of corruption, although some of the first where originally Angels from the upper planes), anyway... But in that setting all planes had grey areas, the Seven Heavens was a grand beautiful place... but law was absolute and as such you could be punished for petty crap without warning so if you were an angel who broke a law, even with good intent you were basically considered corrupt and worthy of punishment of highest degree... same way while the devils were evil, they would still adhere to bargains and rules to the letter even if they didnt want to, and demons were evil but would happily pursue freedom and individually, and would respect someone with a very strong sense of that who used all their might to attain it. Not all things in heaven are good, not all things in hell are vile... I miss planescape as a setting, so damn deep. D&Ds best.
My favorite monster. There is just so much you can do with a succubus. I was disappointed with the 5e stay block though. I've never been able to play him because I always DM, but I have the idea for a bard that that met a repentant succubus that tried to invade his dreams in a moment of weakness. Shocked to her senses by his waking, she apologizes to him. The bard sees her sadness and sympathizes with her. She tells him her story and he hugs her. Being what she is, it arouses her and she flees, fearing that she will lose control again. The bard vows to find her again and help her (and any willing succubi) find redemption. If you like the concept, feel free to use it in my stead.
I love this. The Succubus has been and always be one of the monsters I would love to have more in my games and stories. but it doesn't always revolve around them. which, at times, is a real shame
I’m gonna run a game where there is a Succubus the party meets who is just depressed and sad that she knows that no matter how much affection she gets or gives she will feel empty still. And is going through grief about it and she will be friendly to the party and not try to help them as much as she can just to be kind in other ways rather than affection in hopes of some sort of validation that may come from that
This is another tragic tale where the good gods became evil and Angels of love were the victims. Hmm... there's a good max level campaign setting for WoTC to print. Players have the ability to free them from the curse of the succubi or fall to the temptations and Asmodeus wrath for doing what he could not.

Never went anywhere (if its the same big powerful thing Asmodeus was guarding in the Planescape setting in 2nd edition)... it was a 'mystery' hinted at in the Planescape campaign setting, the same as the Yugoloths controlling the Bloodwar (although that got its own campaign module and boy was it amazing), the Baernoloths being the original outplane inhabitants before Demons and Devils, and I think there was a special all powerful god body in the Astral plane put there for a reason that had everyone seriously worried (although that might have been Orcus)... if only the Planescape setting hadnt been canceled, so much neat stuff could have happened. Modern D&D outplanes material in my opinion is so pale in comparison.

I thought 4th edition was bad, and it was, but 5th edition is like wrapping your children in bubble wrap and then duct taping them to a chair in an oxygen tent.
@@antimatterstudios8395 4th edition was excessively complicated; 5th edition is very easy to the point that it coddles players is what I think OP means.
@@robinthrush9672 What are you talking about, 4th is the easiest DND system ever made. All characters plays the same way, Power cards are printed out with defined keywords. The levelling system is better and clearer as it is the same for all classes. The only complexity is how much of 4th you "actually" choose to use. The add a lot of options to the systems. The tier system is superior. e.g. you can play the low level, mid level, an upper level campaigns. Where 5th is great 5-10th but terrible elsewhere. The minor issue is that there is more situational modifiers involved in characters than 5e, however its less than other dnd editions or complex rpg systems. Magic items with powers In my view was a mistake that does make a character more complex. However it not really as bad as some 5e characters.
@@acetraker1988 It started out way too simple, boring and insultingly simple, then they decided to rectify that by making it hella complicated for a non-Gurps game. My group isn't doing 5th ed either since they decided to mess with races, taking all the fun out of playing characters that were contrary to their races typical alignments out of it, and iseemingly deciding having any of the traditional cultural things with races was wrong somehow. We're doing Pathfinder atm.
When you play DND with a VERY sex obsessed person through 3 campaigns, You wait patiently for your time as the DM to break out the succubus temptations through the course of the campaign through dreams until they are high enough level to have a slight chance against the Balor and or demon prince the Succubus summons.
Why is it that "good" deities are always really into slavery? Why give your servants sentience and freewill if that is the last thing they want in a servant?
I suppose its because they need their servants to choose good because otherwise they'd be easier to corrupt maybe? Like how it'd be harder to hack an ai but also riskier to have one in the fort place
@@beauberry6179 If you give your creation self determination then you shouldn't be surprised that it would choose its it's own will over yours. If you wanted a machine that would do its task without they could have done that without enslaving a sentient and forcing it to follow your will.
@@roguepsykerhaaker4813 Both Asmodeus and Zariel choose to save all the planes from the demons, which I'd argue is good. The good aligned deities wouldn't commit the celestial host to fight the demons and their destruction so Asmodeus came up with the scheme of using evil souls that were wasting away and turning them into his soldiers. Thus making the devils and the nine hells. The blood war is the frontlines of the struggle to save all of creation. So if it weren't for the good aligned deities in action or their habit of giving their servants free will then the corrupting influence from the devils would exist at all.

So they were chaste angels of love huh? Once again, we are shown the cost of being too thirsty for too long in life. 😆 As for the illusionary and the true appearances of Succubi, it sounds like they use magic to look beautiful, but without it they are darkly beautiful. I wonder if there was some way for someone to give them physical intimacy while using some type of magic or divine power so it actually does give them some pleasure and or some satisfaction in the acts. That way they wouldn't keep feeling so empty and could perhaps find some comfort and be less dangerous and hostile. And to protect the lover who is trying to help them, maybe a not nasty looking undead such as a vampire, or a being who is plane touched in some way, could give the succubus the physical love and pleasure they want and that way both sides are safe and are able to satisfy each other.
Or, redeem the succubus via those trials first. Remove the problem all together. Or. Use the spell, Sanctify the Wicked. And redeem the succubus. And remove the problem all together. I hear the question your asking and.... it's just easier to redeem her. The soul consuming bit makes that specifically difficult.
@@sagesheahan6732 Thanks for taking the time to point this out to me, but, I wrote this before getting to the point of hearing about how they'd been redeemed. Years ago I was part of an epic level 3rd edition campaign (I had a level 34 Human Vampire Fighter, with my six attributes ranging from the lowest of a 16 in constitution (that didn't really matter as I was Undead) and the highest of I think my strength of 40something) to give you an idea of how long we'd played and how powerful we'd grown), and part of one story was a succubus who was willing to give us the info we needed in exchange for a kiss (that would've level drained somebody). My character stepped forward, and between my consideral charisma and the illusions on me making me look mortal, she gave us the info and then got to kiss me... and was both irritated and amused when she couldn't steal life from me, as I had none. We ended up becoming lovers and through it semi redeemed each other, with both of us being able to get the evil parts of our alignments to neutral. We were still monsters, but regained some of our lost humanity through each other. Me being free of blood hunger (I could drink, but didn't have to all the time) and her being free of her hunger for life (she also could drain if she wanted but didn't have to either). It was a kinda neat part of an epic, both in level and in scale, storyline. Also, I'm wondering if there's a way to give one of them the love they want without purifying them which would make them not need it anymore. Basically a way to outplay their cursed addiction, and since they'd get what they want they wouldn't need to prey on others.
Was that really only 20 minutes long? I was so into the lore I lost track of time. I'm 99.9% entertained by you videos every single time. This is my top 5 favorite channels.
yes... thats why if you knew who you were against and your DM was smart, you'd not go the 'lets kill it' route with em lol. They werent super strong planers, but they punched way above their weight. Also it was a 5% chance of trying to get a demon lord (ie 75% for a Nalfeshnee, 20% for a Balor and 5% for a demon lord), although there was only a 40% the gate would actually work. so not as high a chance as you'd think) but still you dont want a 1st edition Demogorgon popping up in your campaign ever.
I've watched so much of your stuff that I was actually baffled when I realized I wasn't subscribed. Anyways, I've been waiting for this video in particular!

I'm sorry WHAT
Glasya met you on layer 304 of the abyss
So the gods were pimping out the "angels of love" to any mortals they had plans for. I would've been angry too.
Lolth sees these piteous creatures that crave the bad touch and just want to make mortals happy at their core and is like "yuck lol". Then she turns them into earwax.
5% chance to straight up summon a demon lord
Now that's what I call a plot hook.
Or a tpk
Considering the low CR for a succubus, I'm gonna guess TPK.
@@Beatrix7979 I mean, I immagine the following
- The succubus is having trouble fighting the low lv party
- Out of desperation, she tries to summon something
- Summons an absurdly, incredibly powerful demon lord, that out anger from being summoned for such a lowly reason goes into a rampage
- Party miraculously survives
- Party starts a long climb to try to get powerful enough to defeat said demon lord
- We got a campaing right there
Or, if the DM is feeling particularly fed up with the group's shenanigans, replace step 4 with:
- Everybody dies hideously
@@Medaumplay3 Or they get enslaved and now have to do the demons bidding. While trying to figure out a way to get out of the deal.
I’ve been wanting to set up an encounter where a player is preyed upon by a succubus. But now I’m thinking it would be neat for the players to meet a succubus on the path of redemption.
Maybe they meet the latter who intervenes with the actions of the former?
Look up The Legend of the Silver Skeleton.
why not do both? have a player get dreams, pleasant at first but slowly over time get worse and worse.
Maybe it doesn't work on idiots

I remember when the DM tried to punish my bard by having a barmaid turn out to be a massively overleveled half-goliath succubus queen. She never stood a chance.
Seduced in seconds.
Redemption succubus sounds like a fun thing to play actually XD I mean, about most her skills would be useless so would be interesting.
As a DM I would make you make a will save to stay chaste (say once a day to start, and start spacing them out more as the redemption progresses) because the succubus is addicted to physical contact.
She would have to roleplay a lot to get rid of all the suitors she would attract.

So succubi are angels who just wanted to love, got tricked by a fallen angel, and so they got punished for it?
Oh yeah, that sounds fair.
I mean ...it's kinda up there with living in a garden with nothing to do except lazily frolic about, and look at that one tree in the middle of the garden which says "Do Not Touch", for eternity... and then acting like the result was a big shocker. ;-)
Its all part of the plan...or something...
D&Ds best.
MrRhexx: "I swear i am only looking at all these pictures for a Video."

This is another tragic tale where the good gods became evil and Angels of love were the victims. Hmm... there's a good max level campaign setting for WoTC to print. Players have the ability to free them from the curse of the succubi or fall to the temptations and Asmodeus wrath for doing what he could not.

08:46 "Asmodeus was chosen tô guard the prision of the chained God" I would like to hear more about that
Never went anywhere (if its the same big powerful thing Asmodeus was guarding in the Planescape setting in 2nd edition)... it was a 'mystery' hinted at in the Planescape campaign setting, the same as the Yugoloths controlling the Bloodwar (although that got its own campaign module and boy was it amazing), the Baernoloths being the original outplane inhabitants before Demons and Devils, and I think there was a special all powerful god body in the Astral plane put there for a reason that had everyone seriously worried (although that might have been Orcus)... if only the Planescape setting hadnt been canceled, so much neat stuff could have happened.
Modern D&D outplanes material in my opinion is so pale in comparison.
I got to say one of my favorite things about your videos is the art you show its all so amazing. both that and the lore you talk about gives me so much inspiration

Pot and Politics With Mr. Brophy what?

Why is it that "good" deities are always really into slavery? Why give your servants sentience and freewill if that is the last thing they want in a servant?
Should the creation disobey its master for no reason just because it wants to?
@@beauberry6179 fair

As for the illusionary and the true appearances of Succubi, it sounds like they use magic to look beautiful, but without it they are darkly beautiful.
@@sagesheahan6732
Thanks for taking the time to point this out to me, but, I wrote this before getting to the point of hearing about how they'd been redeemed.
Most perfect vid yet. Excellent lore coverage. Bravo good sir.
Never been so early, damn!
Was that really only 20 minutes long? I was so into the lore I lost track of time. I'm 99.9% entertained by you videos every single time. This is my top 5 favorite channels.
Are you telling me a fight againts a succubus in earlier editions could suddenly turn into a fight againts Demogorgon or Orcus? O.O
yes... thats why if you knew who you were against and your DM was smart, you'd not go the 'lets kill it' route with em lol.
