Not much of a commenter, but I just wanna thank Comic Pop and their crew for my past year of viewing their stuff. Genuinely reignited my love for comics. I wish you all and every member of this community well. You're all very cool peeps
One of my favourite Batman stories of all time, and a surprisingly clever critique on the tropes of 90s comics! Very glad you decided to revisit this, great job.
Sal in this you have made me realize that this Joker is exactly the Joker I wish would come back. A formidable villain that didnt have to take everything so seriously. A Joker who could just rob a bank or plan a scheme sometimes. Who Scarecrow could just sorta hang out with for a bit without having to worry about being horrifically murdered for no reason.
Yeah, when they try too hard to make the Joker the scariest and most important villain ever every time he shows up you just start to tune out everything he does
Sal: Oh, you think Comicpop is your ally. But you merely adopted Knightfall; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the omnibus until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING! Lol
Knightfall will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my first Batman comic. Honestly the best part of the trilogy as it is a grand showcase of multiple villains with an undergoing plot that builds up Bane and ends with that iconic moment.
1:04:15 I cried laughing at that. I'm just imagining Tom Hardy's Bane saying that exact same line while being uncharacteristically nice to Batman 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I don't have many "phonebooks", but this trilogy is there on my shelf. I do not have the time I wish I did to re-read them, so I am very thankful to be able to able to listen to these entertaining blokes revisit it for me!
I remember seeing the first Knightfall video years ago, around the time I started watching the channel, and always thought it was way too short for such a massive event. So glad to see it redone.
When you say the basic premise of the story, it sounds pretty good. 'Bane sends the other villains to wear Batman down before breaking him', that's how it was described to me. When I actually set out to read it, I think I got around to the Joker/Scarecrow bit before quitting. It's fun to learn what happened after, but I'm also kind of glad I didn't go through the rest of that headache. Edit: I do want to add, I am at least glad someone put Cavalier in something at all. I like him, and it's always pleasant to see him used.
This is my favorite Back Issues of the last year or so and it's of a story I've already heard you tell. I don't know what kind of magic you guys have that makes your jokes, jabs, explanation and story telling so addictive but I can't wait for parts 2 and 3! Thank you so much for the time, talent and quality of your show. It's the best thing on UA-cam (subjectively... but to me it really is)
In Ben's defense, in Batman Forever, Chase comes to the door or whatever at one point say, "It's Dr. Meridian. Chase." And the way she says it, the lack of pause, sounds like she says "It's Dr. Meridian Chase." It confused me a lot at the time.
The fact DC had no idea Batman and Superman’s downfalls would be in the same period of time is a coincidence that I don’t believe could be repeated if you tried.
I remember getting this omnibus as a kid because it was right off the heels of Dark Knight Rises. I don’t remember much but I must have read the first part a ton because when your episode on vengence of bane popped up it hit me with a lot of nostalgia. I look forward to more redux episodes (civil war specifically) so I hope this episode does well so we can get more
You know, sometimes I wonder how long a No Man's Land back issues would be, and how Sal would cover it given the fact that the smaller stories can often be just as, if not more, interesting than the main overall plot.
Not gonna lie, Jean-Paul has always been one of my favorite underrated bat family members. His journey to redemption was really well done in my opinion after Knightfall.
I know you are joking but Chuck Dixon did write a conversation where Batman called Nightwing’s relationship with Starfire something that wouldn’t last because he would outgrow her.
Every time I think of Knightfall my exact next thought is the Robot Chicken skit where Bane kept breaking Batman's back. Bane waltzed up to the JL and broke Batman for like the 5th time that episode while the rest of the team just watched it unfold lmao
I think that DeMatteis and Alan Grant should’ve just been the two writers who crafted this story. That way having Batman being tired and fatigued could’ve been more organically introduced. Instead of 5 or 6 different cooks, two guys who have written good Batman stories would’ve made this worthy of its iconic status.
I really appreciate this, I wanted to look at your original video on it but oof is the quality rough there. Glad to see a redux, hope to see more in the future.
Honestly, the concept of Knightfall is so loved that pretty much most Batman vs AI stories somewhat take bits from this story and entire Batman going full on authoritarian takes stuff from Kingdome Come which itself is alternative concept of Bruce still being paralyzed after Knightfall. So in a way, it is the one story that sets up 20+ stories which explore Batman self destruction.
Excited for this! Adore the show and you’ve all grown as creators over the last decade, the idea of redoing old episodes in the modern way will be awesome!
20:42 reading knightfall i was SO confused by metalhead haha. they were building him up to be super powerful amd mysterious- with the worlds dumbest costume- and then we never see him again lmfao 😂
One of the first comic books I read as a kid and I remember reading Batman getting his back broken by bane it was a shocking moment for me. Thank you guys for redoing this episode!!!!
I absolutely love this episode! Everything and Everyone was on Top form, I can tell this is one of those episodes I will be re-watching over and over again in the future~
I was just re-reading this whole thing, from Black Mask and Metalhead onward, and love the mention of every single detail. I'm now in the part of Knightquest (Dec 93) where Shondra somehow has magical healing powers... A nice touch early on were the Death of Superman armbands, even Jean-Paul wears one on his Waynetech Security outfit. Superman dies in January 1993, right when Knightfall begins. Then, when it's over (Oct 93), it neatly coincides with Superman's returning for good. Superman immediately meets up with the new Batman (Superman 83, Nov 93); funny enough, to invite him to the Coast City memorial, where the fall of another major character begins.
Actually, Chuck Dixon invented Simpson Flanders. He said in a video somewhere that the idea was a gag, where he met a character who was just Rush Limbaugh, and that not-Limbaugh points out how stupid his ideas are. Because Chuck Dixon for some reason liked Rush Limbaugh. Even though Limbaugh would later accidentally accuse Dixon of being liberal, even though Dixon isn’t. Is it weird that was the biggest thing I took away from this? Also, technically Riddler’s goon’s scheme fails, because Huntress stops them.
The best adaption of Knightfall might be Lego Batman 1. Where all the villains break out at once so Batman and Robin have to fight them all in rapid succession
Unpopular opinion: Volume III of _Knightfall (Knightsend,_ as I suppose its called) is extremely underrated. While the actual showdown between Bruce and Jean-Paul is anticlimactic, all the stuff with Lady Shiva training Bruce Wayne is pretty cool. In particular, when Bruce has to fight the leader of the rival dojo between freeway lanes as traffic flies past at 60mph is awesome! ...Volume II _(Knightquest),_ on the other hand is meh. The part where Robin is spying on Jean-Paul arguing with Saint Dumas is laugh out loud funny though.
I get the bane picture is green screen but are the surrounding shelves also green screen? Or did they lay it out and light it just so that it looks that way ?
Ventriloquist and Socko would have been a cool cameo in Arkham Asylum-Arkham City 🤣 Just pondering around trying to find Scarface which was in either Joker (AA) or Penguin's (AC) possession
Arkham Knight could of had a Riddle that you need to scan and find and it's either a dead Ventriloquist with his socko and Ventriloquist blown apart and then once you solve that riddle is when the Ventriloquist and socko show up in the evidence room
Something I've been wondering ever since i watched you guys talk about Azrael's debut and i hope you eventually talk about it later, but does Bane know who Azrael is? Like does he know that Azrael was the guy who beat him up after he broke Bruce or does he have no idea there the same guy? Have Azrael and Bane even interacted after Knightfall actually?
11:36 I don't think this is really out of nowhere though. Salazar Knight goes into detail as he explains that from the first few issues of the Knightfall saga. He explains that from the first few times of this storyline, Bruce undermines just how tired he was, overestimating his own stamina as Batman. Plus, Batman was helped out by Robin when he was taking out some of Batman's villains. Maybe if you wanna give it a look see. ua-cam.com/video/VkRancmCutI/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

It’s crazy they’ve been at this so long. Love this series
"Hey, Batman. Welcome to back issues. I'm Bane!"
crack
Batman: ungodly screaming
Thank you for holding the line!
🎶Dum bum dum budum🎶 "THATS BANE!!!" :)
Batman: LIKE A BAG OF FIRECRACKERS
Bird: I'm Bird
Trogg: and I'm Trogg.
“Like a pack of uncooked spaghetti”
The camera angle of Sal hitting the button jump scared me
It was a really nice angle though. Very cinematic

Like and share and all that. If this does well they’ll do more.
"I'm terrified of baskets, they might hide cobras" 😂🤣
57:30 I think the fear bros should team up more, Joker/Scarecrow Squad forever
0:08 okay wtf I wasn’t ready for a second camera angle Jesus Christ why did that feel like a SpongeBob bit lol

Honestly… I’ve REALLY been looking forward for this. The original Knightfall Back Issues episode was a bit to lean. This is more like it.
I remember seeing the first Knightfall video years ago, around the time I started watching the channel, and always thought it was way too short for such a massive event.
So glad to see it redone.

To be fair to the mayor, there is a non-zero percent chance of a murderers snake charmer being on Gotham at any time
Going back and redoing some of the earlier books is a nice idea. Though it now opens the door to: "when are you going to cover World War Hulk" again.
YOU GUYS PUT OUT THIS AND ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN BACK TO BACK!!! THOSE ARE MY FAVORITE COMICS EVER
This channel is truly a gift. Never stop, y'all
I know you are joking but Chuck Dixon did write a conversation where Batman called Nightwing’s relationship with Starfire something that wouldn’t last because he would outgrow her.

49:54 I love Wesker shooting his own hands.
"...and wrote a lot of dynamite Batman comics".
I'm intrigued. Go on... tell me more about this "Dynamite Batman".
I'm intrigued to see how the evolved style handles these older video reduxes
I really appreciate this, I wanted to look at your original video on it but oof is the quality rough there.
Glad to see a redux, hope to see more in the future.
The entire segment at 57:46 had me laughing for weeks!
1:06:51 Batman gets his back broken. There's still almost an hour left. Whoop
The magic nun appeared a couple of times in Chuck Dixon Robin stories, but don't think it ever went anywhere.
i love this storyline please do the other 2 parts of it :D
Honestly, the concept of Knightfall is so loved that pretty much most Batman vs AI stories somewhat take bits from this story and entire Batman going full on authoritarian takes stuff from Kingdome Come which itself is alternative concept of Bruce still being paralyzed after Knightfall. Kelley Jones: the only artist that can make the insane physiology of Bane make sense
46:38 Careful! Firefly is burning down the lake!!
Nightwing would never make a good Batma----Prodigal son? Batman & Robin with Damien? What?
The Black Mirror.
To be fair he lacks the motivation
Excited for this! Adore the show and you’ve all grown as creators over the last decade, the idea of redoing old episodes in the modern way will be awesome!
I’ve been waiting for this since yous mentioned yous would go back and re visit.. wicked gassed guys ! Comic pop always rocks!🤘🏼
" I hit him with my fear toxin and it just pissed him off real bad, Joker.
Joker, run. He's just real mad now!"
I’m so glad you guys did this. I’ve been wanting a longform version of this for ages.
That got dark really quick lol 1:04:14
1:32:39 Sal sounds like some sort of machine here.
I was 12 when I read this, and I thought those gloves were the absolute pinnacle of pure badassery and AzBat was the most radical dude of all time.
Knightfall can certainly be messy with all the tie-ins, but the core story is one of my favorite Batman tales.
I feel like I’ve come full circle with you now, because the first video of yours I ever watched was the original Knightfall BI…… how time flies 😢
2 hours for Knightfall? Given how massive this storyline is, I'd assume 5 hours.
I love the few redux episodes youve done
20:42 reading knightfall i was SO confused by metalhead haha. they were building him up to be super powerful amd mysterious- with the worlds dumbest costume- and then we never see him again lmfao 😂
0:14 oh my god I thought comcistorian was in there for a second
30:36 there's a similar arkham breakout story in batman 400 resurrection night (1986), also ushering in a new era, that of post-crisis batman
this might be one of your best show yet Sal. I had an absolute blast listening to it
Okay, I've been meaning to reread these for a while now. Haha let me go get through Volume 1 and I will return. So excited to see you guys revisit it.
The first Batman comic I can remember getting back when I was about 5 years old, was Batman #500. That batsuit is still my favorite non standard suit.
Awesome Thumbnail!
I would figure the batsuit has a tracker in it and they tracked him to where he was being taken so they could get him immediately
Lets go! Excited to see this get a more in-depth look.
One of the first comic books I read as a kid and I remember reading Batman getting his back broken by bane it was a shocking moment for me. Thank you guys for redoing this episode!!!!
47:56 😂 I’m actually crying!
Hoping we get more redos of older comics that didn’t get fully covered in depth years and years ago!
I love how Bruce just immediately goes, This woman is interested in me, should I tell her my Secret Identity?
I absolutely love this episode! Everything and Everyone was on Top form, I can tell this is one of those episodes I will be re-watching over and over again in the future~
😂😂😂 opening with, "this is weird" was gold, it is indeed super weird.
Nice seeing you going back to old stories
So hyped! The old Knightfall was my first episode of Back Issues many moons ago in the TV Little House days, so this one feels a little extra special
Now Batman really has back issues.
I was just re-reading this whole thing, from Black Mask and Metalhead onward, and love the mention of every single detail. Back Issues redux of seminal is a great idea!
Hey Sal is having alot of fun with the editing on this one hahaha.
The best adaption of Knightfall might be Lego Batman 1. Where all the villains break out at once so Batman and Robin have to fight them all in rapid succession
Great episode. My head canon was always that Batman was burned out because of Batman:Venom. I always thought it happened right before Knightfall….
The Keith covers are sick AF!!
everytime they drop a good ass video like this i wathc it like 3 times
(im sorry my keybaord broken)\

I appreciate the “Space the Infinite Frontier with Harry Carey” reference. A skit I quote regularly
Bruce at every moment a new woman is introduced:
"Hey, you wanna know my secret identity?"
Hishe called it man.
Awesome I’ve been waiting for this redux! I really enjoy this saga I know it’s got its problems but I love the 90s comic era good and bad!
Loving Back issues ATM 🔥
Have you guys looked at Bane conquest yet? Any chance?
LETS GOOOOOOO
Comic Pop re-reviewing my most favorite Batman story.
Honestly, I love it entirely especially Knightsend & a little of Knightsquest.
Unpopular opinion: Volume III of _Knightfall (Knightsend,_ as I suppose its called) is extremely underrated.

Super excited for this redux!
Love the idea of a redo of old episodes
Guess what I have to rewatch for comparison... Sal, you're a mad genius.
The rats represent crime is one of my favorite lines from this show ever
THE FREAKING BUTTON BIT AT THE BEGINNING 😂😂😂
I get the bane picture is green screen but are the surrounding shelves also green screen? Or did they lay it out and light it just so that it looks that way ?

I think they briefly interacted right before No Man's Land, during the calamity.
Hmmm, middle guy has some big hands….

@@comicpop was not expecting a response like that, but okay. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. Still love your channel, though.
thnx
