Creating a Round Snail Art Project | Elements of Art Series (Part 2: Shape)

Welcome to Part 2 of our Elements of Art series! In this video, we’ll be creating a Round snail inspired by the book "Round" by Jennifer Ward and Lisa Congdon. We’ll explore the element of shape, continue learning about lines, and touch on space.
Key Teaching Points:
Students will learn what a shape is and how to apply that element to a work of art.
Building on the previous lesson, students will continue to explore lines by using curly lines for clouds and spirals for the snail's shell.
Teacher Prep:
•Precut paper for each student.
•Borrow the book "Round" by Jennifer Ward, or queue a read-aloud video.
Materials Needed:
~Household Items:
Coffee filter
Paper plate
Spray bottle with water
Googly eyes (a pair per student)
~Art Supplies:
Washable markers
Scissors
Glue stick
White oil pastel/crayon
Messy mat or surface covering
Paper:
12 x 12” colored construction paper for the background
9 x 6” colored construction paper for the snail body
4.5 x 12” brown construction paper for the dirt
2 x 3” green construction paper for the grass blades
