  • I've tried to include all important dimensions if someone wants to make a similar trailer. If you want to also make the trailer lower frame I would look at the Oliver travel trailer factory tour videos as I think they have one of the best aluminum trailer frames being built. The trailer has the ability for many other uses such as purely a parts container or even a camping trailer with the gull wing doors providing instant shade. Please leave a comment if you like what you see. If you own a manufacturing company and want to work with me on the building of similar trailers I would be happy to work with you.

    This looks great!
I always wanted to build a trailer out of a utility truck tool box bed that would keep all my tools organized, locked up, and mobile for jobs. Larger tools like a ,table saw/job saw, generator, chop saw, etc. would go in the bed, mounted on rollers or it's own wheeled stand of some kind, sheets of plywood could be transported on it's own rack inside. A canopy would be mounted to the top of the boxes protecting the contents and creating a covered space to get out of the weather, etc. And a standard truck lumber rack mounted over the top of the canopy for lumber.
This would also allow me to back it into my shop which would have a horseshoe of work benches built along the walls. Accessing a tool would just mean turning around and pulling it out of the trailer, which is now my shop cabinet storage, locked away in my garage.
Camping out of this arrangement would also be easy, with kayak/bike, etc. mounting on the lumber rack, and other gear and food organized in the tool boxes.
Really the main components are a trailer, canopy, and lumber rack and could probably be found piece meal on Craigslist after a few weeks of diligent scanning, and you wouldn't even need to modify anything.

Follow your dreams, I had this idea and had some time and money to pursue it. Found the base trailer on craigslist.

Nice build! I've seen a lot of the aussie builds over there, and like the way they do both trucks and all sorts of types of trailers. They make a lot of useful sense!

Thanks Peter, yes I was inspired by the tradesman trailers. Main difference is the full height / length gap between the interior sides down the middle and the low section in front for the pull out table saw and bandsaw.

Nice job, building that yourself. I’ve got my own too. An humbaur trailer 5m x 2m x 2m inside measurements. They use rubber seals, maybe an option for you to make it waterproof. Everybody has other needs for his trailer, and how they like to use it. U made it fit for your purpose, nothing can beat that 👍

I thought that by adding roll up sides like on motor home and campers use you could make a dry area. I found myself moving my work tables to be in the shade of the doors on hot days.

  • @chrissd08

Great trailer Neal! The doors are square aluminum frame with that aluminum paneling held on with some rivets and the adhesive? Looks like your in dry country, any weather stripping to keep moisture/dust/rattle out? Idea on price of materials minus the base trailer?? Is that siding material 1/4" or what thickness??

    • @nealmcmillan5675
      @nealmcmillan5675  2 роки тому +3

Thanks for the compliment. 1x1 1/8 wall aluminum square for the doors, used loctite pl premium adhesive and then riveted mainly because I couldn’t clamp all the areas that I needed to reach and for some redundancy. I did purchase weather stripping but haven’t installed. As you said, it doesn’t rain much here. No problem with dust or water so far. The sides are a aluminum composite with a polycarbonate plastic center, about 1/8 thick. 5mm I think. I paid $1,100 for the old trailer and have a total including the trailer and new axles and the wood for the inside build out of $7,000.

@@nealmcmillan5675 Good idea... The layout is quite organised too.
I live in the UK unfortunately, so I haven't found any companies that make tool trailers... Well, I found one company, however they only offer one model, and charge £14,000 !!!
I can't use a box trailer, because they are inefficient for my application... Unless I buy a massive one, which is impractical.
I think that I can definitely make one for under 5k... If I decide to add an electrical system, probably 6 or 7k.

Nice build sir!! I just order mine from Uprising engineering in Australia. I'll be the 1st in the USA to have one. You can see it on youtube under Uprising engineering USA Spec. I have owned several made here, and they they have all been junk. The most recent one has been a Spartan trailer, and it has been the worst of the four. Not even a year with it, and have had a lot of structural issues. I have that one for my HVAC change outs. The one coming from Australia will be for my Electrical.

Uprising Engineering from Australia is starting to import Chinese made trailers. They have a UA-cam channel. A better Australian made trailer is by smu trailers Australia. None of these are as functional as the one I made IMO.😀. I would work with a manufacturer if there was interest expressed in the US.

Agree that some jobs it’s just better to haul the tools inside. This trailer also works great for transporting because none of the tools gets buried or hard to reach like in a pickup or van. I also carry tool stands and table in it. Thanks for commenting.
