Thanks for the feature guys - appreciate you taking the time. Always nice to see an unfiltered reaction from people trying these out the first time :) The Halberd into the Bad Cat was sounding especially great, and it was also nice to see the fuzzier side of the Surveyor in action too.
For those watching at home who might not be familiar, the one thing they missed is the variable mid EQ on the Longsword. The shift toggle changes the center frequency of the Mid control. It lets you boost/cut at 1KHz for cut and sizzle (great for lead playing) or at 300Hz to dial back the mud or add some beef (great for scooped amplifiers). It's my favorite part of the pedal and can take it to pretty unique territory if that's your thing.
    Anyway, cheers! 😁

But why the knob layout on the Longsword??? Low-Mid-High across one row, Boost-Vol-Drive on the other would have made way more sense!

While it's certainly great for EAE to get this high profile gig, I'm sure they were cringing during each moment of glaring dad-rock misuse. There are tons of demos on youtube though, giving each of these their proper doom, shoegaze, garage-y rock, etc moments to really shine.
Also...barely even touched on the influential significance of the Model feT's (Sunn O))) Model T) or the Surveyor's (IVP rack pre) voicing and gain structure.
This was even worse than Peach Guitar's attempt to demo their batch of Death by Audio pedals.

That Model Fet is nice- I really like it, might check into one. The other drives were good, but like Capt. pointed out- not groundbreaking or anything, but think about that- how do you do "groundbreaking" in a drive pedal without turning it into something else? A drive pedal or preamp sort of is what it is- they've done every flavor of transistor/diode/op amp/whatever you can dream of so- nothing new there. We've twisted the EQ section in every direction- 3 band eqs, parametric eqs, tilt eqs, etc.- not much left to do there. We've even tried preset eq curves you can choose from. We've got drives with multiple input caps and clipping options that can be dialed in for any combo of guitar and amp no matter how bright or dark. I guess what I'm saying is- cut them a break man, you try and come up with an original groundbreaking overdrive- it's not easy. Tbh there hasn't been one since the Klon imo- which found a way to use a clean blend to make something truly original- now that's been done so- what next? Just like music- it gets harder and harder as time goes because ppl have done it- all. Coming up with an original drive is like trying to write an original song- not easy.

Lee really sold me on these pedals with his ringing endorsement

  • @Qwitsoender
    @Qwitsoender Рік тому +1

A boost that only works with the pedal on is just a different choice, you lose something either way. This way you can preset a huge boost, and make it part of the sound, then turn that on or off, like a second channel on an amp. If you do that with an independent boost, it’s very possible that turning off the drive will make the volume jump, forcing you to make different compromises.
So, I’m pretty sure this is a conscious choice, and not a missed opportunity.
Aside from that niggle, it’s nice to see EAE featured here, they make truly excellent stuff. Different from anything typical, yet refined, and useful. Brilliant.

Those looking for a cheap jfet Sunn Model T option, I strongly recommend to get a kit from GuitarPCB called Sunn T and build it yourself! Costs like 35 pounds and sounds insane. You can use it as a preamp or overdrive. PCB Guitar Mania also has a similar kit with a built in LPB-1 type of boost and some EQ mods. The only thing you need to know is how to solder.

History note: Long, great, broad. All terms used for the same type of sword as well as different types like bastard, zweihander etc. D&D is where people really started categorising by descriptor, most people just called a sword a sword and if it was long it was a long sword.

Hey Andertons, can we get more artists and less guitarists for pedal demos? Less blues, 70’s rock riffs, etc and more new creative ways to use classic & modern sounding pedals would be greatly appreciated!
So many pedals sound like, “Just another”, because the guitarist demoing is playing “just another,” blues lick.
I believe we can all agree that two identical guitars can have completely different mojo/feel and make you want to play and write differently. I believe pedals are the same way.
Most OD pedals all sound the same playing blues & classic rock but some are better suited/tailored for other genres. EAE pedals are highly versatile and some also happen to be perfectly suited for post-hardcore (their origins are birthed from those genres.)
With all the time and editing that goes into a 30 min video, I would have loved if you covered all the features of these pedals and maybe given us more information about EAE that is available on their site.
Andertons has been a staple in gear & guitar content and I’m finding myself watching less and less of your videos because other channels are meeting those creative needs. With more and more gear these days and price-tags soaring, we need better representation to help us, the consumers, make informed economic decisions. I know there are other younger players who feel this way too. Love you guys, thanks for all you’ve done for the guitar community!
