quite honestly i do understand why some people may be upset at the video. however, dean for many years has stated his videos aren’t meant to be taken seriously.
as a first time watcher who randomly came across this video, it looks like he’s making fun of it. Idk about dean and his other videos or what he has said but this is one isn’t it. A simple disclaimer would’ve sufficed, not him invalidating people who showed their discomfort with it in the comments.

Many people (including myself) think that he should put a disclaimer that this is not an accurate representation of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) as it could be seen as contributing to the mocking of DID and plethora of bad DID representation. People with DID are often made out to be crazy murderers/rapists/torturers, cringey, or evil and unstable. They’re often portrayed as monsters with violent mood swings and alters bout to hurt their loved ones, even though that’s not the case for almost all systems. However, Trevor keeps doubling down on this video, saying no disclaimer is needed, everyone’s too offended, and supposedly (I’m not sure if it’s true), claiming he has DID. If he does have DID and thinks this is a funny, lighthearted way to satirize a disorder that affects him as a way of coping and making people laugh, that’s fine but he should probably still add the warning as not all system will be on the same page when it comes to jokes around DID. However, if he’s falsely claiming to have DID ( a very serious disorder caused by intense trauma during early developmental years), I find that horrible and I imagine others do as well. People with DID (aka systems) have what is basically multiple different people living inside of their head, often without their knowledge, causing “switches” in which one personality (alter) starts “fronting” (making the decisions for the person). Switches are often caused by triggering circumstances similar to the intense trauma they experienced as a child. DID forms when a child below the age of 9 is so severely traumatized on many occasions (often through sexual and physical trauma, but sometimes war, human trafficking, and religious trauma). The brain literally cannot take the amount of trauma so it fractures into different personality aspects to protect the person mentally. This causes the person to develop dissociative amnesia, in which they forget their trauma along with some memories and, during switches, what had previously been going on. When something triggers the personality/alter in charge due to trauma that it holds (even if it doesn’t remember), another “switches” in to make them less triggered, as that personality will most likely have different trauma and triggers. Sometimes alters will merge and become a new alter, depending on what the system needs during that point in their life. There have been times when people with DID have been able completely integrate into one, fully formed personality, but this takes years of therapy and is often unachievable even with the treatment. Most systems aren’t aware of what’s going on, causing many to live undiagnosed for years. Alters may or may not have names depending on the system. Most alters aren’t exactly full formed, conscious individuals, but some are and those are the ones who usually are recognized and are named. So if Trevor is faking such severe disorder with such a tragic cause, then that is disgusting. I don’t think people are actually super offended (systems have every right to be), but it could be hurtful to some systems who watch it, as it could reinforce how the world sees them.
@@queerbotanicalqueen Unfortunately it seems he’s on a path where he’s using outrage as a tool with many other issues so yes he’s mocked the submarine victims, people who died at pearl harbor and now people who have DID. This was informative. So it just kind of seems irrelevant what he’s trying to achieve he’s pretty slimy on purpose.

I watched the full video and I would like to say that this video could be a good opportunity to disclose what DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) actually is. It would be nice to have a disclaimer before the video or in the comments saying that this is not a faithful representation of the disorder and avoiding adding to the stigma and disinformation that already surrounds it.
Doing a parody it's not inherintly bad, but if you don't disclose that this is not what DID is, it's understood as mockery and adds to the bad representation.
