  • This great offering from Deering is very similar to the Gibson Earl Scruggs model. See it reviewed and hear it played by our very own Robby Boone.

I am the fortunate owner of a Deering Golden Era with a custom maple neck and other special appointments. Deering and Stelling in my opinion are the absolute best American Banjos money can buy. Comparing the two however is like comparing apples and oranges - 2 different banjos with completely different tone. Deering as well as Stelling tone and craftsmanship is unbeatable! I love my Deering and my Stelling! My advice for anyone planning on purchasing a vintage replica though is not to waste your money on any other without first trying the Golden Era! The Golden Era is worth every penny and far surpasses any banjo in that category on the market today! One more important factor is Deering and Stelling customer service is the absolute best! You will never be disappointed!

Once a few years back in Ocala Florida at the park, I heard a Gibson playing a break. Then I heard a Deering. They didn't sound the same. They sounded different but to say one was better than the other? There was a Stelling there too. It was not trying to be a pre war Gibson. They all could stand on their own feet. Personally, I play a Huber which is a good banjo, but not better than any other good banjo.
