To Bart, Stacy and all the members of the SC community: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We're grateful for the terrific content this year and look forward to more in 2025!

May God continue to give you wisdom and prosperity and open doors for work. So that we here on the other side have more videos to learn from and inspire us. You are the best.

What fun! A special holiday gift to all of us from The Sound Couple. This gig is certainly not the normal kind of gig to which Bart and Stacy allow us to tag along. But, this video is rich with a long list of learning opportunities for us. I feel like we've been given a very special Holiday Treat, as we watch Bart navigate the front-of-house duties at this special concert. As always, a tip-of-the-hat to The Sound Couple for continuing to illustrate how the excellence in honing the craft of providing production services pays off with big benefits for the performers and for the audience. A very Merry Christmas to Bart and Stacy.
I certainly agree when you say you mix differently dependant on the type of gig. I’m lucky to work in live band, corporate AV, theatre and streaming and although the essential skill set is similar the approach and execution will vary to fit each scenario. Happy Holidays to you and Stacy 🎶🎄🖖
Man, I feel like shows like this with rehearsals, and multiple shows are the perfect candidate for scenes per song. That way you can really have things dialed in, and have a high level of consistency show to show. Use this in conjunction with time spent in virtual soundcheck, and you've got a recipe for success

Another feather to add to your cap. Thanks for the Christmas special. I'm always interested to know how different people connect their own desk/system into house gear, especially for multiple level or raked seating, a combination of FOH (direct or array) & fill speakers (for under tiers), whether the FOH speaker system is run via the matrix system within the consol or through software / driverack / system processor to accommodate the different needs of the audience seated on different levels and proximity to the stage (speakers).
You send your main outs, plus any aux outs from your console into the houses console. The house engineer, or you, then route them appropriately to where those feeds belong on the house console.
I was told the balcony is an issue and the fills are maxed....I honestly could not hear them when I was up there thus the need to overcompensate with the mains. The mains were located on each side covered by a facade.
@@RegularTennesseeJoe I would say that is a fair assessment. I wasn't going to push my opinion as those can be perceived as insults quickly. Bart, thank you for sharing this gig as well. Was this show listening to the band play only, or was there other challenges as well? I’m just curious how many shows got attended. The band sounded great, you did excellent as usual.
Thanks DeWayne! The two biggest challenges with this one was keeping the volume in check and getting consistent coverage. I call it a win as I never received one volume complaint!
They did, but they said they didn't work well. I tried to pry a bit deeper, but they said they have done everything they could. Honestly, I could not hear or see them.
Great question, but I did not ask! I was really just focused on the task of mixing the system...so from that perspective, I had to use what was there and knowing what it was wouldn't have really mattered.
Hi, moving forward, would you consider patching the audio from the board to your video if you do a gig like this again. Just curious. Great video by the way!
Yes...couple of considerations. It would probably been a good idea to inform them I was recording...but a more significant challenge is posting the content on UA-cam. It is very difficult to post musical content on UA-cam without being demonetized or incur revenue sharing. This really impacts how we are able to present the content. If you go back in our catalog of videos, we used to demonstrate recordings, etc....sadly, it's not possible for us to provide content like this any longer....at least consistently.
Merry Christams from Italy, Stacy&Bart, two simple questions: 1) Which PA was there in that theater and did you find the system already calibrated? 2) I noticed that you left the wireless systems in the control room and therefore at a considerable distance from the stage, aren't you afraid of disturbances and frequency drops during the show? Have Happy New Year and at the next gig!
Thanks for your questions....the system has been in the room since 2017, so I can only assume it was tuned and it was just fine to mix on. It's a busy theatre, so I can also only assume that the wireless mics at FOH is working for them. We did have one mic acting up, but they were able to resolve by scanning. Have a great New Year!
You probably want to run four outputs. L, R, sub, and fills. That will give you more control. I’m assuming there are fills in this theater. Did you get a trace to confirm the pa is processed the way you expected?
The one thing I would probably do differently next time is to run the subs off an aux. It seems like they have exhausted their "tuning" of the system (including balcony fills) and they will be doing some upgrades in the future.
@ unfortunately you can never know beforehand what the pa is doing in some theaters. I had a theater where I had to shut off the amp feeding the full speakers because it clashed with the main pa. When the fills were on, the vocals disappeared in some parts of the theater. Mixing theaters is definitely a cool gig
@@markjastrzebski2065 It can be important to know what questions to ask, but I was hired to mix FOH, so that's what I focused on.
