Choose contrast background for better accuracy. Dear Pam, thank you so much for your question. It depends on the crop - which one is your current research focused on? Also, consider using Canopy Cover module to get Leaf Area Index (not just pure Leaf Area in square centimetres). It will boost the amount of data about your crop's growth.

Particularly, Canopy Cover module will be helpful to track the growth of the plants. Please, keep the height stable and the same for all measurements and you'll get the appropriate LAI for the plants.

Additionally you can consider measuring Canopy Cover of the plant and this will not require cutting leaves.
