- AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND November 12, 2020. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team AC75 yacht 2 had near perfect sailing conditions on the Waitemata Harbour today. Not to mention an attempt to head to the sky for a brief moment!
AirflowNZ Travel, Wow mate, the skies the limit with your beautiful Videos.
Let's hope the rest of the world loves your Filming as we all do here in New Zealand. We are so lucky to see these beautiful boats skimming over these waters here in our own back yard. Gib
Gib, yes they are viewed in many countries, thanks, Mike
Awesome thanks - they all look speedy! It’s gunna be wicked!
Glen, did you stay on long enough to see the leap out of water attempt? Mike
@@airflownztravel yep I did now! Awesome - great catch! Bet there was puckering on board!
Glen, one hell of a fright! Mike
Great footage as usual...looking nice
Bruce, Thanks for watching, Mike
11:40 spin out 😀
Thomas, you are on to it! The first to notice it! Mike
Sembra che va una meraviglia.Whao che manovra azzardata.
Complimenti al video.
guardando gli altri pero' sembra che LR abbia ancora qualche mancanza di bilanciamento...e si stacca meno degli altri dalla superficie dell'acqua
Vito, many thanks, not many viewers stay long enough to witness that leap, Mike
love it thanks going to be a great event
Barry, yes, it will be! Mike
A beautiful day. Great video
Stefano, thank you, Mike
Don't quite have the smoothness of the other teams yet. Can't wait for the first race no matter who is involved.
Because is a crazy nervous boat...
Alan, look out for ETNZ yacht due out this Thursday, Mike
Looking fast. Deep downwind and high upwind. The bear off can be eventful!
SC, any comment on the attempt to reach the sky near the end? Mike
@@airflownztravel Mike, looks like the rudder stalled, and/or they were concerned about a nose dive. You can see at the bear away after that where they let the main out further (still not that far) like any other boat does in big wind. These boats are not immune! The US just tried out a smaller main, I think because of this control issue.
@@nobreighner SC, you are correct, the leap is caused by loss of rudder control when the foil is out of the water fir just a brief moment, Mike
It looks pretty fast! Thanks from your antipodes!
Pedro, glad that you enjoyed, thanks, Mike
@@airflownztravel Great job!
Pedro, thanks again, Mike
Another excellent video that just makes me want to be out on the water! Don't seem to be sailing with two helmsmen here as you can see the change over on the tacks and gybes. More touchdown on this as opposed to other vids.
NY, any comment on the attempt to go into the air near the end? Mike
@@airflownztravel not really, just a moments lapse maybe
Mmmm....all the boats seem to be struggling with stability. Prads's looking pretty good but if they drop into the water on the tack it will kill them in a race. Great video.
Glyn, many thanks again, Mike
Thank you so much, Mike, for your great video footage!
Consider that, here in Italy, we are returning to lockdown for Covid-19: we will have a lot of time dedicated to sailing images.
Yours could be a mission to distract us by making us fly on water with the imagination ... ;-)
Mattel, I am glad to provide a distraction to your lockdown, Mike
Visually it's flying.
James, just like a seaplane about to land, Mike
@@airflownztravel gracefully rapid.👍
Any word on ETNZ boat 2?
BB, the word in the coffee shop has a 19 in it! Mike
I thought the transitions were fast just a few rudder Ventilation snafus... looks like he might be able to outmaneuver others well with a bit more practice.
Richard, reliable gear will make the winner! Mike
Interesting lengthwise (un)stability...
Agree - the crew seems to struggle a little more than other boats keeping the lift steady. @AirflowNZ Travel: thanks for brining a little of NZ to my living room!
@@DasMCH you are welcome! Mike
What about the leap into the air near the end of the video? Mike
I wonder if they have the effektive CG too close to the middle: the hull itself generates some lift which may have been underestimated. The leap was an extreme symptom of the unbalance? When you follow the bow closely you can see a considerable and almost rythmic vairiation in pitch
Interesting conversation! From a design perspective, Luna Rossa seems rather conservative. In an earlier comment a parallel to Formula 1 was drawn. The way the cars as well as the boats are angled generates downforce at the tail via airflow. Luna Rossa seems not to be sailed at such an angle as American Magic or Ineos for comparison. Is it the same principle as on a kite foil, e.g. the front lifts and the rear produces the downforce?
Then, at the time of the incident, the speed was not that great. Maybe an unintential, or even intentional failure in wing control just to test the event? Probably a bit risky though ;-)
She lifts her skirts and flies before a freshening breeze
Kenneth, a very fast lady, Mike
