I love, love, love this song. The choreo version video is even better. The choreo is sick. I watched I-LAND with no expectations and ended up loving these guys.
From what I've heard the video is kind of a Promised Neverland (manja series) kind of vibe. In this case, the children are the subjects of experiments on immortality hence the vampire theme. I found the song hard to relate to until I read that it's a metaphor for becoming an idol. For example, the bridge "Red Blood on that crown" can be taken as the blood (like blood, sweat, and tears) they expended as trainees or as the blood of those that weren't chosen (the other i-land contestants). Once I knew that and re-read the lyrics, I thought their word choices were quite smart and could relate to the song better. BTW, the choreo is amazing.

Enhypen was formed from a television competition series called I-Land. They are managed by Belift labs a joint venture between BigHit Entertainment and CJ E&M one of South Koreans biggest entertainment and media companies. As you already know BigHit has ongoing storylines. Given-Taken is based on a Supernatural theme. The song is about the complex feelings of surviving the long journey ( competition show) to moving forward to a new world. I am looking forward to how the storyline will continue.
Bighit does that a lot. Symbolisms, nuances and introspection in their music and lyrics so that it is not only applicable to the storyline but in real life as well that can be interpreted in many ways depending on how the listener relates to it. I love that bighit also makes sure that their artists' ideas and feelings are part of the process so that they can relate to the song they're singing and performing as well. Most likely they'll be involved in the writing and production un their future albums (given if they're interested to learn ofc).
I felt the same about this song on first listen; it wasn't instant love but it piqued my interest. Now I think it's great along with LET ME IN and 10 MONTHS. An artist that motivates me to listen to me even when I'm not completely sold on the first song, often hold my attention much longer than any other type of first impression. I'm excited for ENHYPEN.

This totally gives off The Promised Neverland vibes (manga/anime). The Promised Neverland is a story that follows a group of orphaned children in their escape plan from an orphanage after they realize a dark secret -they are being cultivated as food. Except here they are cultivated as vampires/kpop idols instead of "food". You could say that the orphanage is the I-Land survival show this group was formed from, where out of 23 contestants only 7 made it. The video shows them being "made" into vampires w/ pills, and getting their fangs/eyes checked, while on I-Land they were "made" into idols. If you've seen both The Promised Neverland & I-Land, this concept is quite brilliant. A person name LR in another comments section said, “the song talks about the metamorphosis they had to go through in order to debut, how their crowns are stained with blood (the contestants who didn't make it), and also questions whether their spot/crown was "given" to them by the show/fans or they "took" it by their hard work.”

It wasn't a "usual debut song" that tend to be more catchy. But it's a very good song, all the album is awesome really. And considering they did all in two months is impressive. Some reviews say the song is more for music appreciation than public attraction, therefore it is not what many were expecting for a debut. But it's a song that stays with you, and makes you put attention longer I think

So I like the song and BigHit has a thing with storyline's so thats great BUT since they'd evyted so fast I dont really know what their color or sound truly is. I like the mini album but its pretty average and again NOT their fault since they debuted so quickly. It doesn't mean they aren't talented I just want to know what Enhypen's sound is. I know we'll get there eventually.
