They were pretty good impressions lol. I don't have a Simpson's history request, but I still would really love an Extra Seconds on Mr Lisa's Opus. It's one of my favorite episodes in the show because of what it says about Lisa's character. Lisa going to college has always been a given in the present and future episodes, but actually seeing her write her cover letter and how it intersects with her relationship with Homer is really beautiful. It feels like one of those full circle moments like Bart becoming Supreme Court justice and I just love those feel good future episodes that show that everything'll be alright for the Simpson family.
I'll nominate The Sea Captain! A goofy character that doesn't have too much plot relevance in the series as a whole, but is still a memorable side character!

It always bugged me how Disco Stu proclaims "Disco Stu is heteroflexible!" on the gay dating app, instead of coming up with a rhyme. I mean, "Disco Stu likes men too" was RIGHT THERE.
It's kinda hilarious that Disco Stu is somehow one of the most consistent characters in the Simpsons' entire run. Also I'm still nominating Rich Texan, the guy who made Lisa cry and then got hit by a pie.
"So Homer is to Barney as Marge is to Disco Stu." I genuinely laughed out loud at that sentence. It's such an odd and ridiculous thing to say, but works perfectly here.
I love how Disco Stu's longevity makes him more and more bizarre as time goes on cause when he debuted it wasn't too far off to consider that 20 years after the craze that there were still big fans, but now we're 50 years off making him look more and more out of place.
@ With that in mind, it makes the joke about Disco Stu being that no one agrees with him about his interests kind of anachronistic (as many Springfielders have become), and would be treated very differently today. For example, there was a Mickey Mouse short where the gang was having a night out at the disco, only for Pete and some other villains to ruin their fun, even taunting them by saying “disco’s dead.” It’s obviously a motive for Mickey to save the day, but out of context…is Pete saying he dislikes music made by black and gay people? What’s he trying to say, huh? *Huh?* So yeah, Disco Stu would have many other people on his side nowadays
Now that you brought it up, Disco Stu is quite similar to Duffman. Both are people that talks of themselves in third person, both have the general attitude of "when he's here, you know there's a party", and both have iconic designs. The fact that Duffman is a corporate mascot and therefore his behaviour and mannerism is a facade whereas Disco Stu seems to genuinely enjoy disco is the main difference.
@@nousukas Also, his design is not iconic. If it weren't for the fact that it's a character that we recognize from various scenes he would just be a "dude in a crowd" like "just stamp the tickets"-man.
My nominations 1. Marge's mom, an obscure character that should be really important, but in 30 years has very little actual relevance and is kind of an enigma. 2. Snowball 2, similar to Marge's mom, despite living in the Simpsons household, is almost always overshadowed by Santa's little helper, also it would just be fun to discuss a simpsons pet.
My mom loves Disco Stu, he’s her favorite character and gets excited whenever she sees him. I’m sending this to her immediately, I was excited to see this in my subscription box

Considering Stu debuted about two decades after disco started getting popular I’d say Nu Metal Nick would be more accurate at the moment. But you guys’ times would come; I promise
I love Disco Stu, feels like the embodiment of the early Simpsons fascination with the 70s, similar to Nixon on Futurama. Disco being dead and hated was such an easy joke in the 90s and 00s that it's heartwarming to think that one man kept the dream alive through all the hard times. I hope he's found some joy in my generation's reappraisal of Disco. My vote for next goes to Charlie from the power plant
I'd still like a Simpsons Histories on the Simpson family car(s). Even at the start of the series, Homer's iconic pink sedan was an outdated model. The family finally got an HD television, but have they ever upgraded their ride? Do interior shots of the car update with time? And what about Marge's station wagon--how often do we see it outside the opening sequence?
Interesting topic. Off the top of my head, The station wagon is normally viewed as marge's, though its likely homer owns it. In spite of this being a vehicle they still theoretically own, the video games in which marge drives have her use the canyonero instead. In terms of their other iconic vehicle, officially, the car is usually dubbed "family sedan" but the wiki dubs it "pink sedan" and unofficially its frequently referred to as the funny pink car. Although it is often seen to have suffered damage to the front left side, the original opening showed it in an undamaged state. The current opening reflects the damage. At least design wise, the cars are still based off of 70's vehicles, though the floating timeline has probably made them a little younger than that somehow.
What's ironic about the "disco sucks" attitude of the 90's is that pretty much all danceable pop music since the late 70's takes some level of inspiration from disco music. It never really left, it just became less obvious sounding.
The funny thing is that while he's not exactly the most flattering depiction of a disco fan, a lot of them seen to love him? I love disco music and have looked at some mashups/compilations on youtube, and a good number of them have Stu in the thumbnail.
It's honestly crazy that comic book guy has yet to receive a simpson's histories. He feels so emblematic of what a series like this represents both from the perspective of being a representation of a certain type of fandom and having such a wide variety of random spotlight episodes and recurring character beats. Easy nomination imo
As a HUUUUUUUUGE DISCO STU FAN (i cosplayed as him this year and contributed much research to his Fandom Wiki article and also watched 8 disco movies and learned how to rollerskate in his honor), this video got sent to me by a fellow NoHomersClub fan!!!!!!!!! Great overview full of things I hadn't known! !!!!!! 11:36 I'd argue he's actually probably more than just friends with Edna! Marge refers to him as swingers along with the Hibberts in Season 20's "In the Name of the Grandfather" insinuating that him, Edna, Bernice, and Julius probably do that stuff! Which is amazing because thanks to your video I now know he's a sex addict (love that for him). AND OH MY GOD!!!!! (postiive) WTF REGARDING Marge being his daughter, but also, it's not impossible, given the fact that Disco Stu looked the same in the 70s.........and the hair would make sense.......and the hitting on Marge would be CRAZIER......but man, this is a huge insight! Yes, he really is a continuity wizard! I think you did such a great job putting this togeteher! Guest Stu's coming to dinner is one fo the most hilarious things I've ever seen LOL! Your collection of so many moments is commendable and awesome! I love how you described WooWho dunnit, I'll have to watch that one! Great vid and thanks for the beautiful information! It was far out, groovy, funkadelic, and funkalicious. I really appreciate it and glad my friend shared!
Characters like Disco Stu or the Sea Captain, who has a name so one ever calls him by, are one note characters in appearance & design that they crush that one note and let the writers play around with them. I'd like to request the Sea Captain or Agnes Skinner.
Growing up I never watched the episodes in order so I vividly remember that when Homer showed the Disco Stu jacket, I just thought that the joke was them not knowing who he was 😅
It's a unique kind of relaxing to be watching a video about The Simpsons only to start hearing relevant music from the time in your life when you watched The Simpsons the most.
I'll nominate groundskeeper Willie! Over the years, groundskeeper Willie has been slowly given bits of some depth and a recent second spotlight episode. Also his proud/hatrid view at Scotland is halarious.
Jim this video made me realize what a nearly endless goldmine you have doing history on characters from this show that wont die XD at your current posting pace, you'll probably have enough material for another 8 years of just Simpsons Histories alone
This reminded me a lot of Otto. Upbeat music fanatics on the outside, but as time goes on we start seeing some addiction issues that ruined their life. Honestly I would've loved an episode focused on these two characters, they're both like stereotypes of a musical genre that kinda passed it's golden era, but they're still passionate about it
It is funny that when he appeared, the joke was "this guy's like 40 and living out a genre that died 20 years ago", and now that's 40+ years ago and they haven't made him any older really. Kinda like if they made a character now who was really into Smash Mouth?
I figured they liked Disco Stu because he represents something that's in every town of a certain size, that being the mostly harmless eccentric guy that everyone either loves or hates. Your town likely has one of these guys around.
There is a Disco Stu quote that a few friends and I, have used since the 90s and still to this day. It's from the episode when they go skiing (think homer and flanders "NOTHING AT ALL" episode) and he goes to hit on Marge, sees she has kids, and Disco Stu says "BACK AWAY, NOT TODAY DISCO LADY"
Apparently this video contains issues of suicide and self-harm, according to the warning before the video actually started playing... Tough times for Disco Stu.
My suggestion for a history is Groundskeeper Willie! He's a side character who appears almost all the time and has so many memorable gags, but he's only ever had one proper exploration of his character in the entire show!
Another certified Simpsons Histories banger! Personally, I vote for Raphael, the sarcastic guy as the next spotlight character. He's in the super low tier of relevance but he keeps showing up in different jobs and places, he's like a younger Gil or Hans Moleman in a way.
Why did UA-cam give me a content warning about self-harm when I clicked on this video. Though I haven't watched the video yet so I guess we'll see if it goes there 🤷 edit: OH GOD WHY DID IT GO THERE????
Man now I gotta do a psychology perspective. Maybe the reason disco Stu struggles so much is that he doesn’t like the persona of disco Stu, he said he doesn’t actually like disco and Selma not liking disco led to their divorce despite him clearly loving her and keeping photos of her around. Maybe the reason he can’t let go of his persona is due to lacking an identity outside of it, calling himself nothing Stu, maybe he feels he has to align himself with music like his parents? And this struggle is leading to issues with addiction? I was not expecting this character to be this interesting lmao
When I started watching hing the Simpsons in the mid 00’s, I saw several appearances of Disco Stu before his first apearce. So the joke didn’t quite make sense to me at first, I was a child who didn’t realize this was his first apparent, and was mostly confused that Marge didn’t know who Disco Stu was. And honestly, that’s probably the experince for most new fans past a certain point, and at this point, could be true for most fans over all.
Videos like this are the perfect justification of why “Simpson Histories” exist. Learning that a seemingly flat side character has so much insane lore is always such a treat.
I'm gonna go with a far out character, Chester Dupree, Dr. Hibbert's brother-in-law who made his debut in Tapped Out and has only been mentioned once in the show as of writing. His questline is by far his most prominent role, as other questlines either mention him or have him make a minor appearance, with an occasional meta joke about how irrelevant he is.
Honestly a video about "Tapped Out" in general would be really interesting especially since it's being permanently shut down this year. I remember really loving that game when it was first out (I was in middle school, major simpsons nerd, my family had just gotten our first iPad, and my dad and I shared our Simpsons town so it was a nice point of connection between us) but I'd barely thought about the app in years until it shut down. It wasn't a perfect game by any means and there were some shady business practices like in any free game with in-app purchases, but I'll always have a sense of nostalgia for it
Hell yes! Waited ages for this one. Stu is one of the more underrated characters on the show. Such an odd premise for a character yet so hilarious too. Only they could make such a one note character so compelling.
Ruth Powers and Laura Powers histories/ discussion video perhaps? I feel like they were underutilized and that the whole neighborhood aspect of the show wasn’t used to its full extent like something like kind of the hill
I don't know why but for some reason he always terrified me as a kid. I think the low quality tvs back then made his shades look like large black eyes and his qwerky facial and body expressions gave him a boogeyman feel
Disco Stu is a character I've consistently gained more and more appreciation for as I've gotten older. Disco's relentless positivity and upbeat sound as a cover for deep sadness and self-doubt or hatred is such an incredible concept. (Everyone should play Disco Elysium)
How about a history on Luigi? I really just remember him as a sketchy restaurant owner/Italian stereotype that would just briefly pop up to callously insult everyone around him. As someone who dropped off the show in the early season 20s, I'm very curious to see if that ever changed over time.
“Normal Stu likes normal things” would have to be my favourite moment from him. It’s fascinating how good he is at staying alive. I thought that vibe would be that there never was a cloudy day, but I guess in this funky town, Disco Stu’s world is always going to be a disco inferno. Al Jean, who was the boss, must not be interested in depicting a boogie wonderland, and instead really wants Stu to do the hustle. Really taking the phrase “Don’t stop ‘til you get enough” too far. I can’t say that’s the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it, but I will survive knowing they’re still getting use out of him.
This must be a good day, I don't think anyone can understand how much I love this guy, I even had him on my birthday cake, I was born the same day as his debut episode but 2 years later and I treat it as his birthday too, it's something that genuinely brings me joy. There's so much to his character, I relate so much to him and he genuinely helped me get through so much, I feel better as a person and he inspires me to do my very best and to keep loving what I love. Despite the fact there's so little merch of him I spent nearly 400 dollars, half of it spent on a prototype plush, which is my most prized possession. Still hoping for a Funko Pop and hopefully we'll see a new figure from Jakks very soon and possibly a Lego mini figure with the return of Lego Simpsons. The lack of merch means having to get creative, which I don't mind, I just ordered some custom buttons and keychains for my ita bag. Actually planning to set up a Disco Stu room once I move out. I'm certain this was always meant to happen at some point, I feel like his spirit is within me, he's fictional but I love him like a real person ♥️♥️♥️
I'm surprised we haven't seen a Histories on Ned Flanders yet (only Maude). Considering he's the source for the term "Flanderization", I imagine there's a lot of ground to cover there.
The limbed and headed machine of pain and undignified suffering is firing up again. It wants to walk Springfield. Hurting. Longing. Dancing to disco music.
I’ve never understood Sanjay. Sometimes he does work for the Kwik E Mart, but I’m convinced they made him retire at some point. Even more obscure is his daughter Pahusacheta, who hasn’t been seen in decades.
I hope you all are ready for BAD DISCO STU IMPRESSIONS! 🕺🪩

When UA-cam tells me "You shouldn't watch this video" Is when i actually i'm more excited to do so
Jim this video made me realize what a nearly endless goldmine you have doing history on characters from this show that wont die XD at your current posting pace, you'll probably have enough material for another 8 years of just Simpsons Histories alone
Some--
*Starts watching the video*
Video: "Disco Stu likes disco music!"
Me: "Whoa, whoa, slow down egghead!"
4:10 I know this kinda thing happened all over Ancient and Classical Greece, but my god was that a risky joke.
Yeah you don't want to get on the ancient Greek's bad side. Look what happened to Southern Italy!
I think the Sea Captain should be the next Springfield resident to get a Simpsons History.
I figured they liked Disco Stu because he represents something that's in every town of a certain size, that being the mostly harmless eccentric guy that everyone either loves or hates. Your town likely has one of these guys around.
I used to work at a convenience store.
I have seen these people.
I'd love to see either Rainier Wolfcastle or Drederick Tatum for sure next!
Getting a content warning on thE HISTORY OF DISCO STU was just W I L D
I've been low-key wanting a Cookie Kwan history since the Lindsey Naegle video
_Stay off the West Side._
Disco Stu nominates my man Jasper for Episode 42! (Actually, the next Simpsons Histories would be episode 38, but that sadly didn't rhyme.)
I had no idea Disco Stu was so complex.
Though I haven't watched the video yet so I guess we'll see if it goes there 🤷
edit: OH GOD WHY DID IT GO THERE????
Disco Stu lore originating from seemingly throwaway gags checks out when you think about him being a one-off joke that became a recurring character
17:53 Woah, woah, woah... _ANOTHER_ "Disco Stu"????
why did youtube give me a self harm warning on a disco stu retrospective??
EDIT oh my god
Man now I gotta do a psychology perspective. Maybe the reason disco Stu struggles so much is that he doesn’t like the persona of disco Stu, he said he doesn’t actually like disco and Selma not liking disco led to their divorce despite him clearly loving her and keeping photos of her around. Maybe the reason he can’t let go of his persona is due to lacking an identity outside of it, calling himself nothing Stu, maybe he feels he has to align himself with music like his parents? And this struggle is leading to issues with addiction? I was not expecting this character to be this interesting lmao
8:48 That makes sense since Daft Punk were influenced by the sounds Disco so it's clear Disco Disco would become _Daft Stu._
i see the "Self Harm" warning for the video and now i am really confused
When I started watching hing the Simpsons in the mid 00’s, I saw several appearances of Disco Stu before his first apearce. So the joke didn’t quite make sense to me at first, I was a child who didn’t realize this was his first apparent, and was mostly confused that Marge didn’t know who Disco Stu was.
And honestly, that’s probably the experince for most new fans past a certain point, and at this point, could be true for most fans over all.
Is there anything to say about the Snowballs? It’s funny how just like the Flintstones, it’s easy to forget the family has a cat.
Videos like this are the perfect justification of why “Simpson Histories” exist. Learning that a seemingly flat side character has so much insane lore is always such a treat.
Disco Stu has been waiting for you
How ominous
Been a few videos since I suggested it, but Bumblebee Man would be an amazing history.
I support this. I mean, in universe, Bumblebee Man is probably where Bart picked up the ¡Ay, Caramba! catchphrase.
I nominate Groundskeeper Willie and Capital City!
Both S2 veterans that never quite left the background.
No pun intended 😅
Disco Stu is a character I've consistently gained more and more appreciation for as I've gotten older. Disco's relentless positivity and upbeat sound as a cover for deep sadness and self-doubt or hatred is such an incredible concept. (Everyone should play Disco Elysium)
How about a history on Luigi? I really just remember him as a sketchy restaurant owner/Italian stereotype that would just briefly pop up to callously insult everyone around him. As someone who dropped off the show in the early season 20s, I'm very curious to see if that ever changed over time.
yes for Luigi and good game design
Do a Histories Episode on Rainier Wolfcastle next please.
Oooo Good one.
Lol I got a notification saying this video contains dark content, made me laugh because it's friggin' Disco Stu
I'm gonna keep up my campaign for a Duffman episode! I mean come on, with Disco Stu, it'd be a great follow up
The limbed and headed machine of pain and undignified suffering is firing up again. It wants to walk Springfield. Hurting. Longing. Dancing to disco music.
I'm still voting for Sanjay because he's a very weird character who doesn't fit into Apu's lore at all yet there he is
I’ve never understood Sanjay. Sometimes he does work for the Kwik E Mart, but I’m convinced they made him retire at some point. Even more obscure is his daughter Pahusacheta, who hasn’t been seen in decades.
"I had no idea Disco Stu was so complex"
Oh wow I never realized disco stu was introduced so late in the series
