- I just sold my final copy of this trophy card for a big loss. Let's talk about how and why this cards price changed, along with talking about selling at a loss at times in general for any collectors and investors.

Great video Mike, always hurts when this happens, but you speak with great openness. Big respect to you.
@@realbillymiller1011 appreciate it 🙏
It always gives a channel more integrity when they show the losses. We all have them but a lot of these channels don't talk about it. I've got losses across Weiss, Magic, FAB and other TCG's. Pokemon is the only one where I haven't really lost any money but I've still been beaten up by opportunity cost on certain sets (E.g. I have tons of Celebrations when I could've used that money to buy more Evolving Skies). Like you said you've just got to make sure there's more wins than losses.
Ah thank you. Yeh Pokémon can be very good for returns though I’m sure plenty of people lost money in peak boom with vintage. Yeh that’s a shame but also that’s hindsight, so I always try and not think like that 😂
That's always a sting when something drops and so heavily too but I love your attitude and reasoning over it.
This and your video about investing in modern pokemon still blow me away how people have both funds and patience to sit on assets, I'm splitting a case of OP tomorrow with a friend and both of our sentiments are flip what we don't want before the market stabilizes so we can recoup some costs, and the amount we bought it for is peanuts in comparison 😅
Really sorry you lost money on the card but I loved the story and how you were on fb groups confident in your opinion but it tipped the other, I've definitely done similar on a smaller scale with predicting playable cards and paid for it. It's nice to hear some realistic journeys and what someone thinks during the process :)
Ah thanks!
Ohh have fun with the OP case and best of luck hope you pull something big! That’s a good idea! If you can get most of your money back and have a shot at pulling something big it’s always worth a go!
Ah thanks, yeh it is what it is, it’s part of collecting expensive cardboard, it’s not really possible to be correct 100% of the time! This happens to everyone but they probably just don’t mention it
Underrated content.
🙏
I feel you on this one. I raaarely sell. I sold a TD Mai Sakurajima that funded a purchase of a lot of cards I wanted, and unfortunately that novelty wore off over the last year, and I noticed that it's been extremely difficult to sell even at a 25-35% loss lately. It's slowly become a sellers' market. Top video as always mate.
Yeh I sold my TD Mai and that’s actually what funded these three Alice cards that I’ve now sold. Literally sounds like we are in the exact same boat. Yeh definitely a sellers market for sure. It’s not too bad if you’re not in a rush to sell but I feel for any that are! Thanks mate! 🙌
@@modus3683 I’m assuming you guys meant Buyers Market since sellers are having difficulty moving stuff without discounting.
Most optimal thing you can do with Weiss is collect your favorite IP(s) and never invest. I see people trying to get rid of extra cases (Especially older ones) where no one wants to buy them because you are burning money buying them. Trophy cards are super illiquid cause not enough people play the tcg itself so there's no incentive to collect it unless it's from an IP you like, but even then the premium is probably not worth to most.
@@edwche733 yeh I really don’t invest anything into Weiss other than cards and things I like because imo it’s way too risky. 100% agree with everything you’ve said there 🙌
Yeah that's why the only cases I speculated on were AOT ones because I just like them and I'll still like them even if I can't sell them.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens if Rudy ever decides to liquidate. He has so much. I guess he's just relying on the Patron army to absorb it all.
@ yeh that’s it! Yeh honestly the type of sets he has as well, quite a few are some of the most unpopular sets. No idea how you’d ever liquidate 100s of them when selling 1 would take 6 months.
Then again he literally doesn’t even ever need to liquidate them anyway so I guess that works in his favour haha
With Pokemon roaring back I wonder if Weiss will as well. Sad to hear about your card though. Seems like the folks getting out has caused damage after all.
@@audrisampson yeh that’s the nature of tcgs though, sometimes stuff goes down and sometimes up.
Ah no worries I appreciate that, it is what is it and I did really love having these cards when I got them!
Tbh I think pokemon roaring could take a few more people away from weiss but time will tell.
Excellent video and as someone who’s collected very very heavily in Weiss (5 figure collection 😵), just sit back and wait. I’m thinking if they ever bring AGR to English, it may ignite some hype back into the Weiss market.
@@RayQ101 oh man I’m so curious to see if Union arena or Weiss bring either of their own signed serialised cards to English. That would definitely spark a lot of interest! Although probably more into the AGR cards than everything else. But yeh we never know what the future holds really!
weiss schwarz does not reprint cards exactly and when they do a set rerun they put a silver signature. there is no example of the exact same card being reprinted in the current age- and also they DEF dont reprint trophy cards.
@da-yh3uy AOT reprinted with the same cards multiples times, the last time the only difference was a change in texture pattern (probably by mistake) for vol 1 and im not sure about vol 2 if there were any difference in texture or not.
But most of the time you are correct they do change the signature colours, it was just AOT that didn’t. However sometimes when they reprint with silver signatures it can reduce the value of the original gold signatures because people will settle for the cheaper silver sigs taking some demand away from the gold.
Yeh thats why I decided to buy the trophy as it definitely can’t be reprinted.
@@PokeMike "current age"- how long ago did AOT vol 1 and 2 come out?
@@da-yh3uy
The reprint when final season came out and signatures weren’t changed wasn’t that long ago. I think actually around the time I purchased these Alice cards.
Also the recent English Azur lane reprint the SEC cards were like for like. Because the signatures were a rainbow colour, however that is still an example of it happening in the current age.
Why would you buy at the highest point? Especially a non popular card, such a weird choice
@@Rayquaza894 buying at the highest point is hindsight. I obviously didn’t think it was going to drop lol
@Rayquaza894 this card was an extremely limited tournament winning card where very few were actually given out. They are usually sold by the players within a few days of the win and then dissappear into a personal collection. It's really a get now on miss out scenario.
