You are so patient with your daughter. By including her now, she will really be a help to you in years to come.
Magical!
Reading the comments, tough crowd. Not everybody likes a dark chest, nor is every project about optimizing for collector value. Sometimes it is just to create a functional piece that looks nice. Well done. Great job repurposing!
How to get OUT old screws that have been in for a long time and may snap . Use an electric soldering iron on the end of the screw for 5 minutes it expands the screw in the wood and breaks the bond between them. When it cools it's a doddle to remove.
Man, when you got an old chest, you can not use plywood to fix it! No way!
Nice restoration, good job!
OMG when your daughter was using the power drill it was too cute!
I would call this upcycling, rather than restoring... But nice project.
Nice work Tim :) cleaned up pretty well
Did you finish it off with any varnish, og did you just use oil and wax?
I am currently restoring an old chest my self, but the wood is rather crispy. Usually I would prefer only oiling or waxing it because I like the finishing look better, but I was thinking on varnishing it to kind of "glue" the wood together. Any suggestions/recommendation?
Love the work you did on your chest! Beautiful!
Lovely job. Really enjoy your channel, we are renovating our home, it's uncanny the similarities. We too found a Belfast sink hidden in our back garden! :) Quick question, what is the brand of wax you use after applying the Osmo. Thanks
Great project.
Matchsticks and glue in old screw holes seem to work well.
It worked out nicely. Thumb up and subscription, thanks for the video!
The chest had so much character before.
Lovely peace of work as usual:
The pencil work with the ply wood may suggest you are tuning into a professional Lol. Look forward to the next projects, well done.
I realize I am kinda off topic but do anybody know a good place to stream new series online?
@Lorenzo Zane Flixportal xD
@Grey Malachi Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it !!
@Lorenzo Zane no problem =)
How old is the chest mate?
Lovely!
Awww 🥰 you have such w lovely family 🙏🏽
Ave got this exact same trunk its was shoddely painted black think al strip it down and restore
New sub here. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. My wife and I just started a new channel but don't have much content up yet.
You sure this isn't wormy chestnut.doesn't look like pine.
Possibly, hadn't thought about chestnut.
You should have used a dark walnut stain and it still would have let the character of the chest show through
Kept it a medium colour as we wanted it to tie in with our timber floors, but yes a walnut would be nice. Actually I have another which I am doing soon which is already dark so may leave it.
interesting film. but in what way is this a restoration ?
How do you clean the osmo oil out of the roller or brush please?
Not easily! We wrap ours and get a few uses out of them. I am not even sure if white spirit works tbh.
The Restoration Couple Thanks for the reply. I know osmo sell a cleaner but often feel these same branded cleaners are just a money maker for the same company.
I disagree, the purpose of nails in this application is to hold the wood in place until the glue dries. Like clamps. Over engineered.
I don't think you understand what "restoration" means.
Stopped watching when you said you were not going to take the brackets off. I'd have busted that thing down to just boards and rebuilt it. Be aggressive!
WHY BUY AN ANTIQUE ONLY TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A NEW REPRODUCTION? I REALLY DON'T GET IT ! MOVING THE HINGES? WHAT?
Ugly finish didnt do any justice for the repair waste of time watching this
sorry can't handle British accent.
dont get the point in the comment... should he change the way he talks, this is stupid
