When my grandmother passed away in 2010 I inherited her Gillette Slim Adjustable circa 1963 (it has the "I" mark on it). It came complete with the case minus the paperwork. I LOVE shaving with that razor and will never go back to another razor.
Sorry to contradict you but to me the largest and manliest razor would be that gold-plated Gillette Toggle on the shelf behind you! Aww man so the Big Boy was the only Gillette they made on Chrome! What a shame! I love the looks on the face butcher... I mean the Merkur Futur in Chrome. Would love to have a replated Fatboy in Chrome but that would cost me an arm and a leg completely defeating the entire purpose of using DE blades instead of expensive Fusions cartridges.
Very informative.... Thanks! I have to agree with the Blacked IPs, The largest Gillette sits behind you. However, I heard that the cost to replace the blade for this model is outrageous ... and let's not talk about the shipping costs!!!
I recently picked up a very near mint condition a gold Gillette Mayfair Deluxe in its original mint case minus the paper sleeve. Is this razor on the rare side as I haven't seen any other example on ebay etc ? Thanks. Will.
what is the coating on the Gillette slim if it is not chrome then? I bought one recently and it seemed quite in good condition. The head was like new but the handle was not that shiny so I tried to clean it. I used anti-bacterial soap, rubbing alcohol and some metal polish paste. However, the handle changed a bit. Some of the coating may have come off and I regret using the metal polish although I am not sure if that was the reason for the handle to change its color.
I think Gillette is losing money for not introducing DE safety razors anymore to markets. With Gillette's brand if they made a good DE safety razor(s)they would sell a lot. And I think they would still have millions of those cartridge customers because safety razors are not for everyone.

Liz F I have a 1964 Slim . The same year one that was featured in the 007 film
That inset Gillette ad at 3:02 is really beautiful.

👌🏻
Great info..Thanks
I found a chrome big boy is this considered to be rare
My favorite gillette razors are the old type, the new improved and the 40s super speed.
The adjustable is a marketing gimmick IMO. I use them on 9.

Sounds more rare than not!

I become dizzy when confronted with all those gazillion versions of the oldest models.
I sumize that the 'fatboy' is partly named after the Harley-Davidson Motor Company's model of motorcycle called 'The Fatbob' or 'Fatboy'?
Don't know. It's an unofficial name so it's hard to tell where it came from.

I dont think the same. Gillette would only loose money. A lot of guys are buying. vintage gillette saftey razors because they are vintage.
