  • Cheddar cheese is one of the most popular cheeses in the world, and America's favorite, with millions of tons of it produced in dozens of varieties every year. However, just one cheesemaker still handcrafts the cheese in the place of its birth. Ramy Inocencio has more.

🧀 is the only food we eat it from mold 😅 how did that start from history, the first guy who said, delicious 😋 after eating the moldy chunks?

Raw milk cheese is certainly not “banned” from being imported. It must be 60 days old by law, to be sold here in the US. It is limited in that sense, not banned. We import many raw milk cheddars, including the worlds best Montgomery’s cheddar from Somerset England. Other raw milk cheeses that are imported to the US include Roquefort, Gruyere, Parmigiano Reggiano. Having a law that requires aging raw milk cheese for at least 60 days means we don’t import many young, soft, bloomy rind cheeses like Brie de Meaux. Which is too bad.

Good report. What does "nip" mean in this cheesemaking context?

Were you talking about 2:38? That's "knit", I think it means those pieces/slabs are pushed into the mold where they meld together into one wheel

I love that it’s still made in a cave lol, and also that it’s real cheddar still made in Cheddar! 🧀
Sad that we can’t get it in US though, and even sadder that here we add orange food coloring lol 🤢

Unfortunately, we cannot bring this cheddar cheese back to the USA. Their raw milk is banned from entering US soil😢
