  • The final -Part Five - of my videoa, showing the various stages of the machining and assembly of my new model twin cylinder slide valve vertical steam engine. Starts with the most difficult part, the twin cylinder crankshaft, and progresses through the project, solving problems, to the ultimate successful completion of the little engine, showing it runniing, self starting and reversible.

Excellent stuff! I've been nosing around the geometry of Howe and Williams valve gear, just snooping you understand, but looking at the elegent symmetry of your final answer, the gravity hold reversing lever, I can only say your whole series of films leading to this triumphant conclusion has brought me a grin of satisfaction on a par with Fred Dibnah's best. Bravo.

@togaida This is my own computer design - not available commercially, it would take me several months to prepare drawings for sale. If this happens, I will offer them on Ebay. Sorry.

i just have to say i love your videos. i am hoping to make an air powerd engine using a ball and pin valve. similar to a co2 engine. can you please give me some advice?
thanks and keep up the good work =)

Very nicely built engine! You said it is scaled off of a larger model? Are plans available? I'm designing/building a '10' sized horizontal engine. No reversing gear as of yet.
I'm curious how your reversing gear works. I know how the Stuart #10 Stephenson gear works. But I don't see the twin eccentrics and followers on your engine. Just, I think, a sliding block, pivoted in the center that apparently translates and changes the phase of the valve gear drive. Can you explain it, or perhaps give me a reference to how it works? I'd consider incorporating it into my design.
    Thanks.
