George starts out with a great story about how eavesdropping on a conversation between Vince McMahon & his dad gained him leverage.
He then tells us about Vince Sr running on TV after the NWA tried to invade his Northeast territory and how that began the WWF's national expansion.
We then hear an amazing story about how Vince Jr endeared himself to the boys when he protected Kayfabe during a hotel party before heading into stories about Vince Sr's influence with the athletic commissions in New York and New Jersey.

Great to see that George the Animal Steele regained his powers of speech in the later years of his life. He's quite eloquent here, would've taken a lot of work and therapy I'd imagine.
This dude was such a gem in the ring. So absolutely funny and frightening at the same time.
These interviews with George are very edifying. Fascinating stuff.
Bill Cardille was the Pittsburgh announcer who took Ray Morgan’s place as the wrestling announcer for Vince Sr. Bill Cardille was the host of Chilly Willy Theater in Pittsburgh. Bruno was a personal friend of Cardille and was personally offended when they fired Cardille. Bruno asked Vince Jr. what he was doing in the locker room. He and the other wrestlers gave Vinny the cold shoulder.
That why vinnie Mac took everything out on wrestler's 😊
Chilly Billy
The story of Vince Jr trying to throw someone over a hotel railing is believable and unbelievable at the same time lol
A true legend without question!
I got his autograph in a restaurant and he went into character. I was ready to get out of the there fast!
@timlalonde1018 😂 That's AMAZING!🙏💖💯📠
Remembering George the animal Steele, it’s amazing how he talks with such intellect now.
Great clip here...George you can tell was a smart guy.
Very smart man especially for the business ... his " animal " gimmick was just that ... a gimmick and he played it to perfection !! I legitimately thought he was crazy in the head when I was a kid lol
Very smart man
I got that exact impression as well.
I think he was a high school teacher.
I was at the Meadowlands card 'Flair vs. Steamboat. It was called 'Night of Champions'. I still have the PWI button they were giving out at the door.
Bill Cardille was the Pittsburgh announcer
I think it was Ray Morgan.
@@mikem10481 Not in Pittsburgh. Chilly Billy was the Pittsburgh announcer he's talking about.
@@mikem10481 I think you're right
Chilly Billie
No, it was Ralph Kiner⚾
Wow. I had heard George was a pretty smart guy. Very articulate and informative.
Vince refers to wrestlers as "Products" according to a King Kong Bundy interview. Doesn't surprise me a bit, Vince's motto should be "What have you done for me lately?"
Vinnie Mac was having flashbacks he would have love to be the boss during his daddy early era he would have disrespected them old timers
Vinnie Mac was smoking that weed chilling 😂😂😂
George's statement about who invaded who first is wrong. Hulk defeated Iron Sheik 1/23/84. NWA didn't come to East Rutherford until 4 months later 5/29/84. By that point Vince had picked the AWA dry and was in full poach mode. Whenever I see George, the first thing I hear in my mind is "Lapping that lizard-like green tongue!"
He is confusing Georgia Championship Wrestling with the NWA.
- GCW starts running shows in the early 1980s in Ohio. While the McMahons don't run shows at the time there, they consider it their area. People are also generally upset about GCW's national reach through cable TV being on TBS.
- In the summer of 1983, Vince McMahon starts negotiating to replace GCW on TV stations in Ohio with WWF programming.
- In August 1983, Ole Anderson and McMahon Sr debate ohio at the NWA meeting. At the end of the meeting, the WWF pulls out of the NWA.
- The conflict between GCW and the WWF ramped up between the two sides. WWF expanded into Ohio and GCW in retaliation expanded into places like Baltimore.
As you say, the NWA didn't get involved until the middle of 1984.
Ole Anderson claims he asked Vince McMahon Sr.'s permission before running the towns in Ohio. Vince McMahon has never given his side of the story. The WWE technically had the right to run competing shows in Ohio with GCW.
Saying that one side or the other was completely responsible for what happened is an oversimpfication. And the story will always probably be incomplete because Vince McMahon has never really given his side of things.
George was pretty sharp
George wasn't smoking what the boys were ** But was Snorting what the boys were ! I Sat on the steps of the Catholic youth center ! Cyc in the middle 70's aftera show ! And was talking to this guy ! While he was drinking a quart of beer
The Pittsburgh announcer, Host of Studio Wrestling and late night Chiller Theater on ch.11, None other than the late great Bill Cardille.
Except, George is confused. His story should been Ray Morgan in DC. He was the host of WWWF-TV from 1959-1970. Ray, asked for a raise and Vince Sr fired him & Jr took over.
@@KenGallahan Exactly 💯
No, after Ray Morgan there was Bill Cardille. This was the cause of friction between Bruno and Vince Sr. When Bill Cardille was announcing it was because Bruno recommended him.
@@bulldogbrower6732They brought Cardille back to do one taping day of Championship Wrestling in 1973 when young Vince was negotiating on behalf of his dad and WWWF to do cross-promotion of Evel Knievel's Snake River Canyon Rocket Cycle jump on WWWF TV. Bill filled in for the three episodes that were taped that day, using the TV studio in Pittsburgh instead of the Philadelphia International Arena like they usually did. The matches were all squashes except the feature match on the last show, Strongbow vs Moondog Mayne.
@@bulldogbrower6732 My viewing started back in second grade1965, So you must be right, I never heard of R.M., although Steele didnt start until 68, Im sure he was referring to Cardille.
Very Good
Great Tag match og Killer Khan and George The Animal Steele with Fred Blassie and Captain Lou Albano vs Sd Jones and Mr Perfect Curt Henning
Andre The Giant makes the save
August 1981
wrestling was better when kayfabe was still alive and strong
There is a difference between today and back then. Hate is believable more then.
Ray Morgan wanted more money 💰 but Vince replaced him wirh his son
Brilliant move.
Too bad that Steele mumbled and whispered so much.
McMahon belongs in prison
One of the biggest stooges in the biz
I don't know this but I really hope George is in the hall of fame
He went in early, in 95.
He talks more bullshite then hulk hogan 😂
Would there have been Wrestle Mania, If Crockett had not done the Starcade Prior?? Crocket’s Starcade always out performed Wrestle Lamia!! Starcade Sadly did not draw as well..
Poor old George, you would think, would be beyond petty stereotypes, being a school teacher for all those years. But every time I see an interview with him he always makes sure to take mention whether someone was Jewish or gay or whatever. Maybe he didn’t mean anything by it but it just sounds bad coming out of an intelligent man
This clip is out of sequence..
